UUsuario invitadoThe check in process for this hotel was … surprisingly a bit slower than the other hotels I’ve stayed in Yunnan, maybe because it was during the public holidays there and they’re a bit understaffed while having quite a number of customers staying there. But it was nice that they assisted to arrange our rooms next to each other on the same floor.
Staff were more responsive to use the landline in the room, it’ll take some time to get a reply on WeChat. But overall, still pretty good. Their laundry area has 3 washing machines and 3 dryers, and the hotel provides ready packed detergents and disinfectants for users, which was a plus for us 👍 oh and their tea leaves packets taste pretty nice as well
Location was superb, walkable distance to nanping pedestrian street and CuiHu lake. There’s a mall right across the street.

KKevan KeeganUna ubicación extraña al principio, caminando 15 minutos desde el metro directo al aeropuerto, dentro de un centro comercial antiguo. Una vez dentro, el vestíbulo es un oasis de calma y serenidad sofisticada con instalaciones modernas.
Desde la entrada principal hay solo veinte pasos hasta una hermosa plaza en el centro de Kunming y diez minutos hasta los animados patios de comidas y algunos excelentes restaurantes de especialidades, bares y tiendas nocturnas. Una caminata de media hora hasta el Lago Verde y el principal templo budista zen lo convierte en un excelente lugar para explorar Kunming.
La habitación era compacta pero elegante y con una gran ducha y baño privado, además de un televisor fabuloso con todas las opciones de películas y televisión. El desayuno se elige el día anterior y hay cinco combinaciones, todas bellamente presentadas personalmente a cualquier hora que desciendas.
Más que nada, el personal del hotel es maravilloso: a pesar de las barreras del idioma, hicieron todo lo posible para satisfacer mis necesidades de una manera muy educada pero eficiente, incluso mostrando cómo funcionaba el televisor y cambiando el control remoto mientras estaba fuera, ya que la batería estaba claramente baja. .
Recomiendo totalmente este hotel que ofrece una excelente relación calidad-precio.

Debido a que íbamos a tomar un tren, le pedimos al personal del hotel que nos ayudara a recoger varias cosas y nos proporcionara tarjetas de salida. La actitud de servicio del conserje y. Las señoritas de la recepción fueron muy amables y realmente nos sentimos como en casa. Como somos chicas, la recepción tomó la iniciativa de darnos una habitación para no fumadores. Aunque la decoración de la habitación no era nueva, no había olor y la vista nocturna de Kunming desde el piso 26 era bastante buena.

GGlenysMFairyland Shangpin Hotel in Kunming, is a really nice hotel, in a terrific location….. but as the extra bit in title mentions, is in a pedestrian street, therefore if you have a mountain of luggage, or mobility issues, or toddlers & babies to carry, you might want to think twice about booking here or in any other hotel in the pedestrian streets in the neighbourhood. It’s one of the fabulous features of the area, but you do need to be aware that vehicles are not allowed in this area….. AND …. the only way into the hotel is via a flight of stairs.
My Grab driver from the airport dropped me off where his gps directed him to, but it meant an overly long walk lugging my bag through crowds of tourists on a stinking hot Sunday arv on cobbled streets (obviously not designed when wheeled suitcases were invented!). I discovered the next day that Wuyi Rd subway station is really close to the hotel… less than a 5 minute walk away. Turn left outside the hotel entrance. Turn right at the corner (150m away), and one of the entrances to the subway is just along there on the right. When I looked it up, it turns out it takes half the time to & from the airport as it does by car and costs next to nothing, so I caught it to the airport (just 1 easy transfer along the way), and was really glad I did. It’s a pity the hotel doesn’t include that important info in its listing!
The hotel’s Reception & dining room staff are all super friendly and nice, and my room was really lovely, with a great shower, power points that my Australian hair straightener and phone chargers plugged straight into, and a big window that opens and which overlooks rooftops, alleyways, cafes, high-rises and lots more. There’s also a window beside every lift entrance, so you can all the locals dancing in the public square, which is just fabulous!
There is a laundry for guest use on the same floor as the breakfast room, but every time I checked, both machines were in use, so I wouldn’t count on getting any washing done if you’re only staying for a couple of days.
Loved wandering around the cobbled streets (from right outside the hotel), day & night. Lots to see & do. Lots of colour, lots of people (including all the locals folk dancing together in the square), lots of places to eat, drink and shop nearby. Highly recommend Fairyland Shangpin Hotel to those who are ok with walking (& pulling luggage) over cobblestones, and up & down stairs to and from the hotels entrances (one to the front door, and a second entrance near the lift). It’s worth it! ☺️

The staff were super friendly and attentive. There’s always someone at the door to help, and they even assisted with carrying our luggage straight to the room to make sure everything went smoothly. As a sweet gesture, they gifted us a mooncake when we checked out — such a thoughtful touch that made our stay extra memorable.

PPsymondDespite the convenient location, comfortable beds, and all-important quiet sleep we managed to get, the hotel's communication to arrange our pick up from the train station at night and what turned out to be a self-check-in was just dismal, clearly needing more training to ensure better organisation for future guests. The following constructive advice is to help the hotel improve and for (particularly foreign) guests to note:
1. Ask for guests' phone number and inform the driver well in advance of our arrival, instead of waiting till the very last minute to do so. We reached out to the hotel via WeChat the day before and rightfully received detailed instructions (in Chinese) to find the driver (the pick up service is actually outsourced to a separate company using 3 different vans), but once we found the van, the driver angrily insisted we call the hotel to identify us by confirming our phone number - we were not allowed to board without the hotel's confirmation, which should have been done directly with the driver well in advance of our arrival.
2. This hotel is not manned after hours, let alone 24 hours, so please make it known well beforehand that we will have to check in ourselves if arriving after hours, and provide clear instructions on how to do so instead of communicating them through the phone while guiding us using the security cameras. It is not the guests' responsibility to do your administrative work (to report ourselves to the authorities by scanning the police QR code and filling out our details) at 11 o'clock at night when we have an early morning train to catch the following day. The hotel should allow guests to enter the room as soon as possible upon arrival, not have us wait half an hour while they struggle with what was clearly their first time checking in foreign guests - worse still over the phone - insisting that this be done before we could enter our room.
3. If the hotel truly wants the patronage of foreign guests, they will have to prioritise our convenience and comfort over theirs by actually having someone check us in in-person. Remotely doing so to save costs is as absurd as expecting foreign guests to communicate our details over the phone, sending photos of ourselves, our passport details etc. via WeChat, and then finding our room card and the room by talking to someone over the phone in Chinese. At the very least, these requirements and instructions should be clearly produced and communicated beforehand so that nothing is improvised.
We hope the above experience helps improve what is a decent hotel providing good value for money.
