We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse.
Oriental aesthetics in every corner
The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere.
The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined.
Comfort with thoughtful details
Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay.
Warm and attentive service
From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore.
The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day.
A peaceful location near the old town
The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature.
More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. If you’re looking to experience the slower, more peaceful side of Dali, this is definitely a place worth staying.

UUsuario invitadoWe had a truly wonderful stay at this resort and were very impressed by the level of service provided. The staff were extremely attentive and thoughtful throughout our stay. Tea time and breakfast were available to be served in the room upon request, and they also provided cleaning services for our clothes.
The team took really good care of us, recommending great food options around the resort and ensuring we were well looked after. They even helped to transport our luggage to the nearest pick-up point so that we could easily book a cab, which was greatly appreciated.
Another highlight was the photography service. The resort engages professional photographers, and we were able to take beautiful photos within the resort as lasting memories of our trip.
Overall, the service was exceptional, warm, and genuine. We felt very well taken care of and would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with excellent hospitality.

JJalieThe hotel is located uphill in a quiet lane. The location on Amap was not accurate so we were directed to another hotel and then made our way here after checking with the staff of the other hotel. We reached via the back entrance and took awhile to find the front desk as there was no signage.
Upon receiving us, the staffs were very friendly and assisted with our luggages. The cake served for the afternoon tea was very good! Fruits were also fresh and sweet. They provide free shuttle to and fro 文笔村.
Our room is spacious, clean, and the heater works well. More lights could be installed at the vanity, bath and toilet area to make it brighter. The toilet bowl had a slight smell of sewage.
Breakfast was yummy! The stuff helped us to arrange a car to li jiang and even gave us some tea leaves as gift when we departed. Thank you!

The staff were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the afternoon tea and also the milk and soup before bedtime were lovely.
With the calm style of the hotel, I would prefer a ”over 14/16” policy, as tge kids staying there could be heard throughout the property, taking away from the calm and peacefulness.

KKatherineliewtanWe stayed at Lishe seaview resort hotel for 2 nights. The hotel upgraded us to a two-room apartment which I did not expect! The apartment had spectacular view of Erhai in the living room and master bedroom. I had the foresight of having one free and easy day and we pretty much stayed in most of the time to soak in the view. The staff service was amazing. The team reached out to me via trip.com the day before we check in (fantastic initiative) as overseas visitors like me are not familiar with the WeChat usage. When we arrive, the staff were on standby to receive us and bring us to the apartment as we got there via our own driver. The hotel sent nightly desert (white fungus) to our apartment. One important aspect of the hotel is the delicious and wide spread of breakfast. The breaky was on the highest floor offering great views of Erhai, and the lady attendant there was polite, cheerful and has great service. When we checked, the hotel staff came to the apartment and send us to the car. They also presented a farewell bag of goodies - including rose Chinese cakes (which were super delicious!), tea and sweets. It was an awfully thoughtful gesture. I had the rose Chinese cake during breaky and loved them. So I was super happy to find them in the farewell gift. I would strongly recommend a stay here if you are in Dali. Fellow Singaporeans- you would love this place! I think even if I did not get the upgrade, I would have loved the view too. Just keep one day of doing nothing and enjoy the beautiful view and the hotel hospitality. The hotel staff were service oriented, always smiling, polite and helpful. I mean every staff we encountered, even the cleaning staff! This hotel was a great highlight of our Dali stay. I would definitely come back to stay at Lishe when next back to Dali.

UUsuario invitadoThis was truly the most beautiful place we’ve ever stayed. We came here for our honeymoon and booked the best room available — and it did not disappoint. The room was beautifully designed, cozy, and had the most incredible view.
The location was very convenient, only about 30 minutes from the airport, and the homestay arranged both pickup and drop-off for us. It’s also an easy drive to Dali Ancient City and Shuanglang Ancient Town. The food was amazing — breakfast and lunch were delicious, and we especially appreciated the daily afternoon tea. If we weren’t back in time, the hotel kindly offered to bring it to our room later.
The complimentary photoshoot was such a special touch and made our stay even more memorable. Everything about this experience was perfect — friendly service, great food, and a stunning location. We’d absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Wwendy_****El hotel tiene una ubicación excelente; se puede tomar un taxi fácilmente sin tener que caminar con el equipaje, y además está a la vuelta de la esquina, en la calle Renmin del casco antiguo. El joven personal que nos recibió fue muy amable y nos ayudó con cualquier problema. El café y el té eran ilimitados, y los recuerdos que recibimos al hacer el check-out fueron preciosos. El único inconveniente fue que las instalaciones de la habitación estaban un poco anticuadas y el baño era pequeño.
