Stayed for 6 nights. Room is a decent size, and generally the hotel is clean. You can get the M5 or M6 tram about a 5 minute walk away, which takes you straight to Alexanderplatz. A massive problem was the blaring sirens and traffic noise you’d hear in the room all day and night. 4 large windows so it’s a lot of glass windows/doors. Really nice and bright for the room but very noisy so I highly recommend earplugs if you stay here. The room air con wasn’t working properly, and we couldn’t figure out how to use it. Reception can control it but as it wasn’t workin, it was pretty pointless. So a hot room all night and no chance of opening the windows due to the noise outside meant a bit of a comfortable stay. They did provide a fan however, so that was certainly useful. Reception aren’t very clued up with general tourist queries and local knowledge. You’re better off using Google and finding recommendations yourself. We didn’t have breakfast included in our stay but decided to try it one morning. Every item on the menu is €15, including a basic bowl of porridge- which is ridiculous. Other things such as a full English is also the same price but it’s probably more justifiable. I ordered the full English without any meat, confirmed I was a vegetarian only. Unfortunately, toast had a slice of ham covered with cheese and eggs so I had to return and lost my appetite to order something else. I believe this was just an honest mistake, which can happen with anything. Coffee wasn’t great. I recommend a nearby cafe, Frau Honig, which had an excellent flat white and delicious breakfast. The bed/mattress itself (twin room, single bed x 2) wasn’t that comfortable and neither were the pillows. Beds were also not large single beds. Sauna was great, there were loungers inside and on the balcony which was very private. Towels and slippers in abundance, plus cold drinking water. Great to be able to relax every evening and it was very quiet. It’s just a sauna, no other spa facilities. This isn’t a local German sauna, but one for tourists so I would strongly advise against going commando. There is a Netto and Rewe supermarket close by which are very quick to walk to. The street lighting isn’t great walking up to the hotel from Rewe after sunset, so be wary. Unfortunately the lift wasn’t working practically every day; it was getting fixed daily so out of use at some point or other. Had to use the staircase maybe 4 or 5 times during the whole stay, so not ideal walking up to the 3rd or 6th floor for sauna! Especially for elderly visitors. Asked for a sewing kit as I needed some thread, which reception said they don’t have or provide. Later found a kit in the bathroom; quite lazy and unprofessional not to know something like this. Average hotel all in all but some things are great like sauna and location. I though the carpet was pretty cool, and loved the huge windows (altho the noise was deafening!) Gowns and slippers provided for sauna.

Holiday Inn Berlin City-East Landsberger Allee, an IHG Hotel

Berlín|A 1.52km de la Habanos Smokers Lounge
We arrived at this unbelievably agonizing hotel after a 10 hour flight from New Delhi, my name is Saudhar Singh, I am 71 and my wife is 67 and we came here for some medical check ups as we both have late stage diabetic complications. Upon arrival at 1400 the taxi driver helped us with our luggage, and once we got in the nigh**are started, I asked thru IHG app for an early check-in at 1300 and when we tried to check-in the blonde lady at the reception simply asked us to wait, without apologizing for the inconvenience, without smile and greetings, and without even checking our reservation in the system, we waited for an hour watching other guests coming in and checking in with a completely different attitude from the reception lady. We got really tired waiting so I asked her again nicely, and without even lifting her eyes from the desk asked me to wait again. Luckily, another front desk staff he was kind enough to notice how tired we were so he approached us and offered all help he could, within less than 5 minutes we got checked in, but then Surprise #1: no luggage assistance available, we were given airport type trolleys and that’s it Surprise #2: the room was not checked before we get it, toilet unflushed toilet reeking with the worst sewer stench, no towels or amenities, one sofa only in the room, no water bottles. Surprise #3 Air conditioning was heating the room to an extremely uncomfortable levels and it was summer time here, no matter how you set the AC, its still the same car exhaust type temperature and humidity Surprise #4 no mini fridge in the room, and it was important for us to keep some medicines refrigerated Surprise #5 no soundproofing in this hotel at all, street and siren noises outside combine itself with yells and footsteps inside I went down to the reception and there was the same lady, asked nicely for room change, she said no other rooms are available, asked for a mini fridge and a fan and she said its only provided to tourist groups (I should have applied to tourist group loyalty program long ago and not IHG), there was no point to convince or complain, after some research I found a hardware store 5 tram stops away. They were extremely helpful and arranged a taxi to help me with 2 fans and camping refrigerator. The Turkish taxi driver was kind enough to carry it inside for me. Surprise #6 we tried to get into the restaurant for dinner but the door was closed and the entire place was full, it was limited to tourist groups only Surprise #7 the following morning we were denied access to the breakfast and asked us to pay, I showed them that my reservation was with breakfast, and another blonde lady at the restaurant entrance asked us to wait, they left us waiting till well after breakfast time and without any nice words we were told that they cannot find our booking with breakfast Surprise #8 tried to complain personally to the hotel management but the day 3 blonde lady asked me to wait as the manager was not there yet,

beds super comfy, really clean rooms, good size and bathroom was lovely with a good big shower. cleaned perfectly every day, staff so friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble. close to some of the tourist spots and also right beside a metro station and bus stops and bike hire so we could get around Berlin easily to see everything. a nice quiet area at night too. Lidl right across the road to get cheap food for the trip for lunches etc. great stay, definitely will use NH again
