We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse.
Oriental aesthetics in every corner
The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere.
The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined.
Comfort with thoughtful details
Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay.
Warm and attentive service
From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore.
The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day.
A peaceful location near the old town
The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature.
More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. If you’re looking to experience the slower, more peaceful side of Dali, this is definitely a place worth staying.

The surroundings are beautiful, and the room was clean, cozy, and looked exactly like the photos. The host was super friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. Highly recommended! It is a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay, with thoughtful amenities and a real home-away-from-home vibe. The buffet-style breakfast was also outstanding and absolutely delicious. Would definitely stay here again! 😊

UUsuario invitado¡Esta es una joya entre las pensiones! Reservamos la habitación Lingxi con vistas al mar de 270 grados. La habitación era espaciosa y tenía un diseño estupendo. Incluso con un tatami extra para nuestro hijo alto, no era nada apretada. La vista era absolutamente impresionante; todos exclamamos ”¡Guau!” en cuanto entramos. Podíamos ver la montaña Cangshan a lo lejos y todo el lago Erhai cerca. Incluso podíamos ver la puesta de sol desde la habitación.
El gatito, Saipan, era tan mimoso y tenía una personalidad maravillosa; ¡nos encantó!
El desayuno, la merienda y el servicio de traslado al aeropuerto fueron excelentes. Las toallas y la ropa de cama estaban limpias, ¡e incluso nos proporcionaron almohadas de espuma viscoelástica! 👍🏻 El personal de la pensión fue cálido y acogedor, como de la familia. ¡Sin duda volveremos la próxima vez!

UUsuario anónimoMe atendió el hotel Pullman en Dali durante dos noches. Me impresionó mucho el servicio del personal, especialmente el del señor Edison.
El día que llegué, mi equipaje estaba roto. Él pudo aconsejarme dónde podía comprar uno nuevo y también se ocupó de mi equipaje y lo trajo a mi habitación cuando la habitación estaba lista. Siempre me informó y me atendió muy bien.
El resto del personal también fue muy servicial. Pudieron comunicarse conmigo bien y me brindaron otros servicios, como el desayuno, llamaron un taxi a mi destino, abrieron y cerraron la puerta del auto para mí. Demostraron mucho cuidado.
Me impresionó mucho. Si vuelvo a visitar este lugar, definitivamente elegiré el hotel Pullman.

RRoselynn HuynhThis hotel is honestly so photogenic, perfect for Instagram :)) There are flowers everywhere and the whole place has a very calm, chill vibe.
Their service was really impressive. They contacted us one day before our stay and even arranged a driver to pick us up from Dali train station, which made everything super easy. The butlers were also very helpful, always quick to respond and attentive to anything we needed.
They even gave us a free ride to our next hotel, which was such a nice extra touch. On top of that, they gifted me a cute elephant keychain for good fortune, so thoughtful and memorable.
The location is great too, very convenient to get around.

Durante el check-in, nos informaron sobre sus servicios y nos acompañaron a la habitación. La habitación que reservé tenía unas vistas espectaculares, ¡podíamos ver el atardecer desde allí! Entre sus servicios, ofrecen fotografía de viaje con fotógrafos profesionales que nos tomaron unas fotos preciosas y editores expertos que las retocaron para que quedaran perfectas. Nos llevamos un recuerdo maravilloso de Dali. El desayuno también estaba muy rico. Me encantó este lugar.
