This old dog picked this place as a first-timer to Changbaishan because on paper it reads like a dream:
✔️ 5-minute walk to the Changbai Mountain VIP entrance
✔️ Hot springs inside the compound
✔️ “Eco-exchange” — which I later learned refers to exchanging comfort for character development
Location? Prime marrow bone. 🦴
Reality, however, is a scenic winter obstacle course.
The hotel is thoughtfully scattered across three separate buildings — one for check-in and breakfast, another for hot springs, and because suspense is important in life, the Food Plaza lives in yet another building.
In winter.
On ice.
With wind that slaps.
Not exactly age-old-dog friendly. I waddled. I shuffled. I negotiated with my knees. At one point I believe my soul lagged behind and had to catch up.
To offset this Arctic triathlon, the staff are available 24/7 on WeChat, responding faster than I can type “why did I choose this hotel?” Efficiency deserves a respectful tail wag. 🐾
Now let’s talk Food Plaza, the hotel’s redemption arc.
The food is genuinely scrumptious, warming, and emotionally supportive after being bullied by Changbai winds. Takeaway is allowed — which means you carry it yourself. Eco-exchange again. This dog fetches his own dinner. 🥸
Then there’s the hot spring schedule.

⚠️ Now, the bone that refuses to go down smoothly.
Despite having a relaxed stay, I felt continuously pressed for a 5-star review — on departure day from the first meeting in the lobby to gentle reminders all the way up the bus.
At that point, it stopped feeling like hospitality and started feeling like an exam I didn’t sign up for.
It made me sad, actually — because it suggests staff performance may be chained to guest reviews like sled dogs pulling corporate KPIs.
Trip.com, if you’re listening:
no guest should ever be pressured to review.
The moment reviews are pushed, ratings stop being honest and start being decorative.
This old dog is an independent reviewer.
I don’t bark on command.
I don’t roll over for stars.
And the harder the push, the more my paw hovers over the lowest rating out of pure principle.
Still — despite the ice, the walking, the soul-searching — the location alone makes this a smart base for Changbaishan first-timers.
Just come prepared with:

• emotional resilience
• and the confidence to say, “I will rate when I’m ready.”

The location is perfect for travelers who need easy access to Changbaishan Railway Station, and the park right across the street provides a lovely place for a relaxing stroll. However, the most memorable part of my stay was the outstanding service I received from the moment I checked in. Chen Yuanyuan (陈园园), the hotel staff, was an absolute delight. She is always smiling, polite, and going above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. From the beginning, she warmly escorted us to our room and took the time to explain all the hotel amenities in detail. Her thoughtfulness did not stop there. She proactively connected with me on WeChat to ensure quick responses to any requests we had. The next morning, she personally reminded us about breakfast and even offered to come to our room to guide us to the restaurant. Her dedication was evident as she stayed until we were seated comfortably in the buffet area. Even after checkout, her exceptional service continued. She presented us with lovely hotel gifts and waited with us until our taxi arrived, ensuring a smooth departure. Chen Yuanyuan’s service attitude is truly commendable. Her attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism set a high standard for hospitality. She is undoubtedly a role model for her peers and a huge asset to the hotel. This experience reinforced my belief that service in China is truly excellent, and it’s because of staff like her that I will definitely return to this hotel on my next trip to Changbaishan in a different season. JJoeSGOur family of 4 had a wonderful 2 nights stay in mid December. The great service started even prior to our stay as we had 2 personal concierge 小张 & 莹莹 assigned to us. We had requested for connecting rooms via Trip and 小张 & 莹莹 contacted us directly via WeChat. They not only helped us get connecting rooms, they also gave advice and helped to arrange for our luggages to be sent to the hotel while a private driver (additional cost) picked us from the train station to start our tour of Changbaishan immediately so that we do not have to waste time traveling. All the staff at the hotel were wonderful as well. Our room package included 3hr ski tickets and access to the natural hot spring. It was our family’s first time trying to ski and we asked our personal concierge to arrange for private coach (additional cost). Immediately upon arriving at the ski lodge the coach was waiting and led us through the entire chaotic process of collecting and wearing the gears. The hotel has direct unlimited access to the hot spring and it was also a great experience not to be missed (Don’t forget to pack your swim wear!) It even has a fish pool where we dip our whole body. There’s also a Cute Pet Paradise with different animals you can feed. Overall there’s plenty of activities for everyone and we will definitely highly recommend the hotel to everyone coming to Changbaishan.

SSeanChia94Xinxin at the front desk provided exceptional service. They upgraded our room for us, fearing that we might not be comfortable with the heating system. They assigned us a room on a higher floor, which was also very quiet. Xinxin was genuinely friendly and the room was clean and tidy. Experiencing the local customs and culture in Northeast China was very warm. The hotel’s location, with a mountain to the left and the Changying Film Museum across the street, is excellent. The breakfast was also quite good. We would definitely come back if given the opportunity.

MMingJaeNiI forgot to take pictures of the room but I love how huge it is, perfect for groups and families to stay. The host is also very responsive and helpful. He picked up and dropped me off from and to the Railway station, just tell him what you need and he does his best to comply to the requests. The foods are also very local and tasty.
The hotel is just few minutes of walk from Wanda Ski Resort. You can also take a taxi from the hotel to Wanda for more or less than 10rmb. The hotel is just near from several restaurants and stores. I even rented my ski suit from the store just near the hotel for only 80rmb/day with a deposit (refundable) of 300rmb which is way cheaper than renting ski suits from Wanda.
The hotel is in Guosongcun and the place is perfect for those who want peace and quiet, away from too much crowd. Overall, my stay was absolutely pleasant and if I come back to Changbaishanxi again, I will definitely book the same hotel 👍👍👍❤️
