Our experience of the hotel was enhanced by our meal in the restaurant, which I have reviewed separately. My favourite thing about the room was the enclosed balcony. It was like having a private yoga studio in the sky. (Fellow yogis note, the floor was slippery.) I also enjoyed the spectacular view from the Sauna, which at the time was free because it was not working optimally. (So do ask!) It was good enough for me, but it took over an hour to heat up. The Pool looked too small and shallow to actually swim in, but mostly it was unusable as it was colder than the sea. I don’t know if this was usual. Breakfast was fairly similar to ones we had at other Madeira hotels, but this place had the tastiest selection of fresh bread rolls and very good garlicky mushrooms. The room was clean. We liked the 3-section recycling bin in the room. Others mentioned lack of plugs for phones. Erm... we knew about that but were surprised to find that there were not enough plugs for the room items. The Kettle and TV had to share a wall outlet. They really should consider supplying an extension lead, which could be given out and collected at check-in, just as they (bizarrely) do with the TV remote control. We did start off on a rather bad note. At check in, we were downright ignored. One receptionist was settling a dispute with another guest, but both members of staff deliberately avoided any sort of eye contact with us. I don't normally notice this sort of thing, but it was rude and infuriating and lasted some time. A simple nod would have sufficed. I’ll put this down to a bad day for the first member of staff, who later was helpful. After a long wait for no discernible reason, the other receptionist demanded payment before we had even seen the room, for which we had paid in advance. We've stayed at many places who use multiple booking sites. Sometimes you pay on arrival, sometimes beforehand, and we understand that the hotel needs to know. However, there are ways of asking that don't come across as offensive and like one is trying to get away with something. Not everyone is out to steal the remote control. Make sure you bring proof of payment if you’ve paid in advance, as we had. The hotel is lucky that they have out of this world views.

Vor 20 Jahren hatten wir bereits einen Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel erlebt, der damals sehr zufriedenstellend und äußerst entspannend war. Die Ausstattung war ebenfalls in gutem Zustand. Leider hat sich seit unserem letzten Besuch vor zwei Jahrzehnten wenig verändert. Die Handtücher, die wir vor 20 Jahren schon einmal genutzt hatten, waren immer noch im Gebrauch und zeigten deutliche Verschleißerscheinungen, sogar Ränder waren aufgelöst. Bei unserer Ankunft wurden wir gleich darauf hingewiesen, die Poolhandtücher öfter zu verwenden, was uns etwas befremdlich vorkam. Trotzdem haben wir nach vier Tagen die Zimmerhandtücher auf den Boden gelegt, in der Hoffnung, dass sie ausgetauscht werden. Leider geschah dies nicht. Ein weiterer Punkt, der uns enttäuschte. Außerdem ist vor den Zimmern eine neue Straße gebaut worden, wodurch wir den Eindruck hatten, als würden die Fahrzeuge direkt durch unser Zimmer fahren. Besonders in den Nächten zwischen 1 und 4 Uhr waren viele Jugendliche mit lauten Motorrädern und Autos ohne Schalldämpfer unterwegs, was zu schlaflosen Nächten führte. Am nächsten Morgen entdeckten wir sogar Kreise, die von den Hinterrädern der Fahrzeuge gezeichnet wurden. Ein wichtiger Tipp bei der Auswahl eines Hotels: Achten Sie immer darauf, dass keine Straße vor dem Hotel verläuft, selbst wenn es einen Meerblick bietet. Der zweite Punkt geht nur aufgrund des ausgesprochen netten Personals an das Hotel. ************ Twenty years ago, we had already experienced a stay at this hotel, which was very satisfying and extremely relaxing at that time. The facilities were also in good condition. Unfortunately, little has changed since our last visit two decades ago. The towels we had used twenty years ago were still in use and showed clear signs of wear and tear, with even the edges being frayed. Upon our arrival, we were immediately advised to use the pool towels more frequently, which struck us as somewhat strange. Nevertheless, after four days, we placed the room towels on the floor in the hope that they would be replaced. Unfortunately, this did not happen, which was another disappointment. Furthermore, a new road has been built in front of the rooms, giving us the impression that vehicles were driving right through our room. Especially during the nights between 1 and 4 am, many young people on loud motorcycles and cars without mufflers were causing sleepless nights. The next morning, we even discovered circles drawn by the rear wheels of the vehicles. An important tip when choosing a hotel: always make sure that there is no road in front of the hotel, even if it offers a sea view. The second point is awarded solely due to the exceptionally friendly staff at the hotel.

Just back from a week at Calheta Beach. Absolutely fabulous hotel. The beds are just so comfortable and the room was cleaned every day. I became unwell and the receptionist had a taxi ordered for me in seconds and within an hour I was sorted. The staff are amazing. It’s so beautiful with stunning views . Breakfast and lunch were very good unfortunately I can’t say the same for dinner I’m not a fish eater and found the meat options limited and the steak skewers were really tough. The chefs own choice night was lovely. Also found the snacks very limited especially if you have children . In saying that I will most definitely return it’s one of the most beautiful places we have visited . Thank you all 😀👍🏻

Estive hospedado no hotel Alto do Lido no Funchal e adorei a simpatia e profissionalismo de todo o staff. O meu especial agradecimento à D Teresa e Francisco da receção que foram como família sempre muito atentos às nossas necessidades.No setor da restauração o chefe de sala que não sei o nome mas quando chegávamos para tomar pequeno almoço era de uma simpatia extrema e recomendava sempre o que de bom tinha os produtos frescos do dia. Recomendo vivamente a estadia neste hotel tem qualidade acima da média.,Quartos lindos bem decorados com cozinha para quem leva bebês é uma mais valia,muito espaço e varanda com optima vista.Alem de todos os serviços serem de qualidade ainda se destaca o transfer gratuito do hotel para o Funchal gratuitamente fazendo a reserva antecipada na receção.Motorista do autocarro”Filipe' muito profissional com boas dicas para vusitar o que de melhor a Madeira têm. Un hermoso hotel de playa que es perfecto para las caminatas románticas y una alternativa más barata, aunque aún de lujo, a los hoteles estándar de 5 estrellas. El hotel está muy lejos del centro de la estripa/ciudad y los precios de los taxis no son muy baratos en Madeira. Las habitaciones son espaciosas y impresionantes, muy bien valer con una gran selección de desayuno buffet y un montón de restaurantes/opciones para cenar. En general, un estupendo estancia con un personal muy amigable, sin embargo, si usted está buscando hacer una gran visita en Madeira, este hotel no es la mejor opción a menos que se deja una cantidad significativa para viajar.

Saga holiday which I found was great value staying in this delightful small hotel in an ideal location. I chose this resort for the peace and tranquillity that I desired and because I hadn’t really experienced the North coast on my travels to Madeira in the past. The hotel has good facilities for swimming and low impact sport. Dining was better than I expected and the menus were varied and adequate. The staff were exceptional and couldn’t be more friendly. If you are a photographer you will not be disappointed with the location and accessibility of locations that are fantastic to just wander about in, admiring the views. The scenery is quite outstanding. Travel to local locations is fairly simple by public transport or the shuttle bus which the hotel provides for visits to Sao Vicente. Reception can provide details on travel requirements and trips throughout the island. Whilst at the hotel I travelled to local locations, to Funchal and to Nuns Valley. There was always something to do at the resort and I was lucky during my stay to have great weather. The clientele were from all over Europe and the Saga group which I was part of were extremely friendly and a pleasure to be in the company of. I didn’t encounter any downside during my visit. Yes, the hotel could do with a slight makeover but this shouldn’t distract anyone for visiting. If you are requiring a break simply to recharge yourself then this is an ideal location.

En términos generales esta bien. El desayuno muy bueno. No corresponde a un 5 estrellas de españa ni de lejos.. Con el precio que tiene me parece abusivo que no se incluya el spa, ni las camas balinesas ni el parking !!! . Todo lo cobran adicionalmente. No hay servicio de piscina, tienes que levantarte a pedir bebida y comida si estás en la zona de la piscina. Sin embargo sí que tienen personal para pase**** con donuts para vender en las tumbonas de la piscina a precios de broma.
