BO Hotel Palazzo

The Hotel BO Palazzo is a classic and classy hotel, dating back almost 100 years with historic photographs hanging in the lobby. It was completely renovated not long ago, and is tasteful, elegant, and gracious with a yellow and white color scheme décor and large crystal chandeliers. It has a wonderful waterfront location at the corner end of the marina pier, with direct south and west facing sunset views, and is within very easy walking distance to the charming old town of Porec, the rest of town, and the parklike waterfront with shaded walking path, beaches, and beach bars & cafes. The suite in which we stayed was larger than my first two apartments after college – the photos on the website, as much as we pored over them to determine which room to prioritize to reserve, do not do this room or, presumably, any other rooms justice. The suite has solid burnished wood paneling, windows on three sides, a large balcony facing the water, a bedroom with a sliding wooden door, a large living area, a large formal dining area with a very large table, an office area, and two full baths. The lighting is chandeliers and chandelier sconses as well as lamps. It’s beautiful and is probably one of the nicest and most elegant rooms in which we’ve ever stayed. The only improvements would be to : 1. Add shade onto the balcony terrace via unbrellas (without a sun umbrella, you could really only go out there in early morning and late day; 2. Replace the jacuzzi tub in the en suite bathroom with a real walk in shower with a ceiling mounted showerhead and floor to ceiling glass doors. The tub is a nice idea but you cannot use it as a shower, so two people staying in the room lose the convenience and time saving benefit of the two full baths and cannot get ready simultaneously. The breakfast buffet is wonderful, with a broad scope of traditional Croatian and more English / American options – a good assortment of fruits, vegetables, and pastries; exceptional gluteny fresh breads; terrific melon; and well made tasty omelettes. The only non 5 star aspect is the juice wall dispenser. Seating is on the terrace by the water. Car parking is at the Isabella Valamar Hotel lot; the Hotel BO Palazzo picks you up and drops you off in a van; it’s a 8 minute or so ride. Parking is safe. The parking lot is near the large community athletic and fitness center; you can buy a short term pass and use the very good gym also. The Palazzo’s gym is not really usable except, perhaps, in the winter as it is on the ground floor, facing west, is very small, has just a few pieces of equipment, and is unbearably hot and humid as the glass windows and skylights suck in all the sun and the humidity of the pool piles on. Thanks especially to Kosta, the van driver; Marija and Matej at Front Desk Reception; and Ines at breakfast.

My family stayed at the Hotel Parentium at Plava Leguna during the first couple of weeks of July. Our first impressions on arrival, what a lovely hotel, spacious reception area with lots of open plan seating where you can go and relax away from the sun in the comfort of air conditioning. Both rooms were very nice and clean, comfortable beds, air conditioning all working fine and a nice balcony with a limited view. We didnt spend too much time in the room so this wasnt an issue for us. The dining became busy as the holiday season began to open up and at times some food dishes ran out and weren't replenished as quickly as one hoped. If you ate later (i.e. not when the resturant opened at 6:30) then the staff were juggling between clearing the tables and serving you drinks. The food is very good, lots to choose from, different meats, plenty of fish dishes and salads/desserts, fruits, you cannot fault the hotel on this. Breakfast is also buffet style and again lots to choose from. The pool area is very clean and tidy, beautiful setting, very relaxing with 2 outdoor pools (one salty and the othe freshwater with swim up bar), you also have access to the beds by the beach area as you're a hotel guest which is equally as good. Lots of shady areas under the trees to escape the sun if you need to. Unfortunately if you want a bed around the pool you'll need to get up early like everyone else does and reserve your chosen bed, its not something i like doing but why should i miss out if everyone else is doing the same. Not much in the way of evening entertainment, some nights there was live singers or a pianist but on others you need to venture out to find this. Only criticism relates to SMOKING, for people who don't smoke and find the smell intolerable, it's not fair we also can't experience outdoor seating during meal times for fear of someone lighting up a cigarette next to you or a few tables away. We felt discriminated as we dont smoke. The same can be said for the outdoor bar area, in the evening most of the seating is occupied by smokers, why should i have to stay inside because of someone smoking. The Hotel should adopt designated smoking areas away from the main parts of the hotel where people can go and have a ciggy. The staff are all excellent and a real credit to the hotel, we will definitely be returning in the near future as we loved the hotel and location so much.

We stayed here for 11 nights. Upon arrival unfortunately the room was not available but then it was an early flight from Gatwick and we had landed at about 8:30 and got to resort at 9:30am so expected. The appar**ents that we were allocated were in a block just left of reception and down the steps. There was a handy golf buggy that was able to take us plus luggage part of the way then there was about 20 steps to go up. THERE ARE A LOT OF STEPS! so please bear in mind if you have limited mobility. Appar**ent: We had a one bedroom appar**ent. The kitchen has limited facilities: 2 ring hob and microwave, FridgeFreezer and that's it! no toaster no kettle (can get upon request). The room does have a safe and this is payable at €3 per day. The bedroom had a lovely balcony and there was also a balcony off the lounge with lovely views across the forest and towards the sea. The lounge has a large sofa dinning table and a wardrobe so in all you have two wardrobes. Towels are fresh daily but if you are like us and you don't require just leave them in view then you won't be unindated with them. Sheets you get clean sheets delivered every three days again if their not dirty why change. Bins were emptied daily. THERE IS NO CLEANING DONE BY THE CLEANING STAFF UNLESS REQUESTED AT AN EXTRA CHARGE. For us we tend to keep faily tidy so not a problem. There is an aircon unit in the lounge can be a bit noisy. POOL: No need for you to take a pool towel. You are handed a towel card when you check in and this can be exchanged for towels. Pool is freeezing! but fine once your in - its the getting in! The pool depth is from 1m35 to 1m10 so most can stand. There is a childs pool also. Remember you are self catering so you are aloud your own drinks and food etc around the pool. No glass. Resturant: Great food opens around noon. Large beer €4.50 bottle of wine €15 takeaway ice cream cone €2. Large portions, there is limit kids menu varied menu for adults. Supermarket: By reception not a great selection but handy. Supermarket at the bottom of the hill again not a great selection. These are both more expensive than the Spar in Porec Transport: The best way to get to Porec is via the tourist train. This can be picked up at the bottom of the hill by the Lito supermarket. It was €4 per person each way there is a time table in reception (take a photo). It can get a bit busy. The train also goes to the Zelena Resort definately worth a visit- lots of resturants and little coves for swimming and a few shops. Bikes can be rented from various points but can be expensive if you plan doing this each day. You can walk which is lovely through the forest takes about 35-40 minutes. Sea: Remember your watershoes as the sea is only accessible via stoney beaches or via ladders from the land edges. We enjoy'd our time here very peaceful although there is night life at the bottom of the hill and the resturant next to the pool can get quite jolly! Would recommend.
