Comfortable 2 bedroom flat located in the heart of Stornoway close to Castle Grounds entrance and only 5 minutes walk to the town centre. Recently refurbished and modernised with smart TV, wireless internet, washing machine, tumble drier, fridge and separate freezer. New high comfort mattresses and blackout blinds along with an updated shower room. Ideal base to explore the island with plenty of private parking outside flat.Our flat offers guests a convenient base to explore the island but yet a central location to enjoy modern amenities. Just 5 minutes walk to the town centre with all its cafe's, bars and shops; 1 minutes walk to the Castle Ground entrance; 10 minutes walk to the museum at the Lews Castle; 3 minutes walk to the Bayhead swing and skate park; 10 minutes walk to the supermarket; and only 3 minutes walk to the harbour. There is plenty private parking at the flat for up to 3 cars but if you have travelled by foot then the ferry terminal is around about 10 minutes walk from the flat.The kitchen is well equipted with a double electric oven, grill and hob. A modern microwave, kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, and sink with draining board. Full set of cuttlery, sharp knives, pans, oven proof dishes, cooking spoons, ladle, fish slice etc. A dining table and 4 chairs are included in the flat. A baby/child seat is also available with tray for younger guests.The flat has 2 bedrooms with the larger equipped with a double bed, dressing table and blackout blinds. The other bedroom comes with bunk beds that are suitable for adults as well as children. All the mattresses have been upgraded to superior comfort models. An additional pull out bed is located underneath the bunks and can be used to accommodate a further guest. We can supply a cot free of charge upon request. Bedding is supplied for all beds but not for the cot so please bring your own baby bedding.The living area has 2 comfortable leather sofas on either side of the fireplace. A large 42" smart TV with paid Netflix account so hopefully you'll be spoilt for choice on what to watch.The flat has its own front door and you have full access. Guests can access the property using the security box at the apartment front door which holds the main door key - the code is provided via email prior to your stay.I am contactable at any time by phone or email and will only attend the property during your stay if requested to do so. The historic, quaint charm of this traditional island blackhouse gives way to the modern, warm interior of the property. The double bedroom features an impressive four poster bed and the bed linen and towels are included. The well equipped kitchen/living room contains everything you will need to enjoy your stay including TV/DVD player, chromecast, bluetooth sound bar and wifi. The property is accessed via a shared driveway with parking space situated next to the cottage. There is a 6kW EV charger for our guests' use (additional charges apply). 2 steps lead into the entrance with the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom leading off.The cottage is situated a short walk away from the stunning beach with its golden sand and turquoise sea. Guests have seen buzzards, owls and even Golden Eagles from the garden which features a rowing boat filled with fresh herbs for guests to pick and enjoy. We also have raised beds in the adjacent field, which was formerly part of the croft. Lettuce and veg will hopefully be growing in the veg beds, guests are welcome to harvest lettuce from the veg beds in exchange for pulling a few weeds out to keep them from getting overgrown, although there are no guarantees on what will be there during your stay. Our field also unobtrusively sites a bank of solar panels, reducing the global impact of the cottage.There are many walks that are suitable for all ages and abilities that offer a great way to engage with the unique landscape. The nature reserve at Balranald is easily reached with its rare birds including Corncrakes and Phalaropes. The dark skies are a haven for stargazers (particularly during the autumn and winter months) and keep an eye out for the Northern Lights too! The area is a paradise for: walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, photographers, artists, astronomers, and people looking for a break from the hectic pace of daily life. North Uist can only be accessed by ferry or plane, making it very remote. Stornoway is a great place to explore. The working harbour is so picturesque with Lews Castle overlooking the water. There are 270 hectares of lush castle gardens and grounds to explore. For a wee shopping trip, there’s also plenty of lovely local eateries and shops selling local gifts such as Harris Tweed. Go slightly further afield and explore Harris which makes up the south of the island and is separated only by the hills of North Harris. Here’s where you’ll find many sights including the spectacular Luskentyre Beach and the Isle of Harris distillery. Feeling more energetic? then take on some epic hill walking on An Clisham, the highest peak in the Outer Hebrides standing at 799m tall. Alternatively, hop on one of the many boat trips leaving from Tarbert or Leverburgh. There’s so much to do and see on both Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out exploring every day. Return from your daily adventures to your cosy cottage to unwind. There are lots of fantastic local walks if you fancy spending your days closer to home. Take the dog for a walk to visit the stunning Tiumpan lighthouse only a 30-minute walk away (4 min drive). Use the viewing platform to search for whales, dolphins and porpoises. This is an official sighting spot for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation group! Watch the many nesting seabirds on the cliffs. On a clear day the mountains of mainland Scotland can be seen across the Minch (the body of water between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland). You’re also a ten-minute walk from a lovely small beach. Explore the nearby coastal path which is accessed only a few minutes' walk away. Fancy the night out?
