This was our second time staying here. The hotel is conveniently situated close to JR Line, restaurant and shops. Check-in was quick, and the staff were polite and helpful. I really appreciate how consistent the service has been on both visits. Overall, this hotel remains my go-to in the area because of its convenience, cleanliness, and reliable quality. I’ll definitely stay here again on my next trip in Nagano.

The staff was very helpful and professional. Before our stay, I inquired about shipping our luggage to the airport, and as we checked in they had information for me for when I needed to bring my luggage down. Also, I didn't need to do any of the paperwork (as I did at Karaska Hotel in Tokyo). The staff took care of everything for me. All I had to do was pay for it. The hotel is connected to the train station via the Midori market place. From the second floor of the hotel we accessed the Midori market area where we purchased a lof of our omiyage(gifts for friends). The train station had about 4 floors of stores attached to it. We had breakfast at the train station -- a small udon stand. The location was very good and I would definitely book here again. The train station has a pedestrian bridge on the second floor that connects to the Don Quixote across the street. 2 km away is the Zenkoji Temple, where there is a shopping street and a large Buddhist temple to visit. Our room was cleaned every day and they were very conscientious and very careful. They left a note saying that any cups with liquids are left as is just in case. There was three of us sharing a room with two singles and an additional bed. The room was spacious even with three of us sharing. There was a little table with two chairs on the side.

Great room and a convenient location, about a 5–10 minute walk from Nagano Station. The room was clean and the service staff were great. There were no convenience stores within a very short walking distance, or at least none that were very close to the hotel. The main downside was that the room décor and setup felt quite outdated. I also did not really like the pyjamas provided, as the top was unusually long. Amenities were standard, such as toothbrushes. Given that we booked a Junior Suite, it would have been better to have more hangers provided. Breakfast was enjoyable, and the desserts or pastries provided at the lobby were a nice touch.

JJin Ki DadStaying at Shoho in Matsumoto was an unforgettable experience that truly deserves five stars. Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Nagano Prefecture, this hotel seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elegance with modern luxury. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we were enveloped by a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was a perfect sanctuary—spacious, meticulously clean, and adorned with subtle touches of Japanese artistry. The panoramic views of the Japanese Alps from our window were nothing short of breathtaking, especially when the mountains were bathed in the soft glow of sunrise. The traditional tatami flooring and comfortable futon bedding provided an authentic experience without sacrificing comfort. One of the standout features of Shoho is its exceptional onsen facilities. Soaking in the natural hot springs while gazing at the picturesque scenery was incredibly rejuvenating. The rotenburo (outdoor bath) offered a tranquil escape where the stresses of daily life simply melted away. The hotel's attention to detail extended to these spaces, with beautifully crafted woodwork and stone elements enhancing the overall atmosphere. Culinary delights awaited us at every meal. The kaiseki dinner was a masterpiece—a multi-course feast that highlighted seasonal and local ingredients. Each dish was artfully presented and demonstrated a profound respect for Japanese culinary traditions. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive, offering a wide array of both Japanese and Western options to suit all palates. The staff at Shoho went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. Their genuine hospitality was evident in every interaction, from assisting with our luggage to offering insightful recommendations on local attractions. Despite any language barriers, their kindness and professionalism shone through. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the rich cultural heritage of Matsumoto. We were just a short drive from the iconic Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan's most beautiful original castles. Strolling through the historic Nakamachi Street with its classic white-walled storehouses turned boutique shops and cafes was a delightful way to spend an afternoon. In addition to its proximity to cultural sites, Shoho serves as a great base for nature enthusiasts. The nearby Kamikochi Valley offers stunning hiking trails that showcase the unspoiled beauty of the Japanese Alps. Returning to the comfort of the hotel after a day of exploration was something we looked forward to, especially knowing a soothing onsen soak awaited us. In summary, Shoho encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality. Every aspect of our stay was thoughtfully curated to provide comfort, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. We left feeling deeply refreshed and with a greater appreciation for the wonders of Matsumoto. Shoho is more than just a place to stay—it's an experience that lingers long after you've departed. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious retreat in Japan.

CChloe Lim SanThe heart warming and hospitality of this family is one of my best experiences in Japan. It was my first time traveling to Hakuba and it was snowing heavily. Masanori san was busy with dinner but he had his daughter to pick me up instead (she have left for university so I reckon on normal days, he will have to go out of his way to pick passengers if they needed.) One key thing to note was to specify where you are properly because i took a bus and they didn’t stop me at the interchange but instead they dropped me off at the Hakuba stop (outside North Face shop) so it was quite confusing and they couldn’t find me at first. The room is very spacious and the morning snowing view was really nice. The free Hakuba shuttle bus is just one minute away and it comes every hour, you can have breakfast at 7/7.30am and take the shuttle bus at 8/9am (might not come on time but just be earlier as there are many others taking the same bus). In house Onsen was decent with hot enough water but will be perfect if only it was outdoors (more for the ventilation and view). The dinner made by Masamori san was one of the main reasons why I booked this hotel - French cuisine. It is delicately made and ingredients are carefully sourced, you can literally taste the freshness of their ingredients. Book at least one day in advanced! At 84, their granny got to be the cutest and sweetest, we sang that one or two Japanese song she knew and she was so happy she served us tea, we kind of almost feel bad that she is serving us but after speaking to her daughter knowing that it is working there that keeps her body strong and makes her happy (so during Covid, she was feeling weak). And also they link up with Lion Gear for all rental of everything you need. You just have to let Masamori san know and he will arrange for them to pick you up at your preferred time. After choosing your gears, he said they will send me to the slopes (went Goryu/Hakuba 47), but they didn’t and instead they sent me to Happo and I had to bring my gears and walked 20-30mins to the bus stops and paid for the V2 buses (the larger buses are not free - so you got to pay 800Yen per person). After I told Masamori san the story, he was really apologetic and immediately called them up. The next day, he got them to compensate me for the trouble and it really did helped ease the not so great experience and time wasting - the Lion gear boss was generous in compensating and explained that it was their new staff and they didn’t follow the previous arrangements. Supermarket is about 15-20mins walk away, can be pretty cold but the walk is really nice, proper walking path with snow built up like walls. All in all, I will still rate this place 9/10 for the hospitality and sincerity of this family, the food and the spaciousness of the room! Highly recommend you to go for the French dinner!

BBSohAwesome hotel under the hotel group chain. Location is excellent however not that near to local dinning places (average about 15mins drive). Hospitality and services were beyond expectation. Booked room was as described and as shown in hotel's website. In reality, the room was very spacious and comfortable. My family and I had a little car trouble on day of check out, and the hotel staff were kind, patient and extremely helpful in resolving the issue. Kudos to the staff going beyond their job scopes I believe.

BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

CChenieeOne of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. We visited in early November 2025 during the autumn season, and the beautiful foliage added such a romantic touch to the surroundings. I loved the modern interior, the comfortable bed, and the overall room layout. The hotel looks incredibly romantic at night too, especially with the reflections on the pond. The outdoor onsen was a highlight. It felt serene at night, and the maple trees lit up in the evening made it absolutely scenic. The onsen is located in a separate building, so you do have to walk through the cold, but it wasn’t an issue as the hotel provides thicker robes. If I had to nitpick, the indoor slippers weren’t the most comfortable. We drove during our stay, so getting to nearby attractions was easy. There’s a large supermarket and a pharmacy about 5–10 minutes away, which was very convenient — we didn’t even need to visit any convenience stores. This hotel impressed me so much that it made me look up where else Hotel Indigo has branches in Japan!

Instalaciones: El hotel no tenía muchas instalaciones.

UUsuario invitadoGreat Stay at Hotel Courtland, Matsumoto! Just wanted to drop a quick review for Hotel Courtland in Matsumoto—what a pleasant find! The location is absolutely fantastic. Seriously, it's about a 5-minute, worry-free walk from the station. This was a huge plus, especially since we had luggage; no need to struggle or look for a taxi. Adding to the value, the price at the time of booking was very cheap, making this a fantastic deal! As for the hotel itself, I have to say, it's exceptionally clean. Like, super clean. It made our stay feel very comfortable and relaxing. What really stood out was the amazing hospitality. We arrived after a 4-hour ride from Tokyo and were pretty frozen from the winter shock. The staff kindly offered us a free early check-in, which was incredibly thoughtful and exactly what we needed to warm up and refresh. It really saved the day! We didn't get a chance to try the breakfast this time, but based on everything else, I imagine it's great too. Highly recommend this hotel if you're ever in Matsumoto!
