I come to Tokyo several times a year, staying a fortnight or more each time. This time I spent seven nights at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. The room faced Hie Shrine. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows I could see the shrine's copper roof and half of Tokyo's skyline. The décor was modern without excess; the layout flowed easily, Bose speakers hidden in the walls, another set in the bathroom ceiling, connected by a 3.5mm jack. The curtains were motorized, though you hardly needed to close them. The turndown service. I would leave in the evening and return late to find the room changed: only the hallway light and bedside lamp left on, a bottle of water and a glass on the nightstand, two chocolates beside them. The evening tea and teacup, previously stored in the cabinet, had been moved next to the coffee machine. These changes were so slight you had to think back carefully to confirm they had happened at all. The temperature and humidity had been adjusted. As if the room itself remembered your habits. Room service fell short of the ryokan in Hakone or Lake Toya, but well above the ordinary hotel. Each day I made two or three cups of complimentary coffee, played music, read, wrote. In seven days I finished three books. The research ahead began to take shape. There were drawbacks. No washing machine, but a decent laundromat ten minutes' walk away—a chance to wander the streets of Akasaka. The room provided HDMI and ethernet ports but no cables; for those who came to rest, perhaps a mercy. The minibar fridge was mostly occupied by drinks for purchase, same as the Imperial, though there was still room for my sparkling water. The day I left it was half past five and fully dark. I could barely make out the faces of the bellhop and the taxi driver. Together they loaded my luggage into the boot. I wished the bellhop a happy new year in Japanese and told her I liked her hat. She smiled and returned the greeting. As the taxi pulled out of the underground drive, I thought of the inns Kawabata once wrote about: what had to be sought in the mountains of snow country can now be reached by elevator from the B2 exit of a metro station. I have watched the Shinagawa Prince Hotel loosen quietly over time, slip a little. That kind of decline is rarely one great error. It begins the day someone forgets to leave a glass of water, neglects to move a packet of tea, omits a newspaper. As for The Capitol Hotel Tokyu: in Japanese, what I experienced over these seven days is called ちょうどいい.

I visited Tokyo with my 88-year-old father. The hotel’s location is arguably the absolute best, making it incredibly convenient to visit Tokyo’s major attractions. The hotel facilities were also highly satisfying. First and foremost, the amenities in the guest room were excellent, and the thoughtful accessibility considerations for the elderly or infirm gave us great peace of mind. For instance, the provision of a bath chair with a backrest was very impressive. The hygiene and meticulous housekeeping were of the highest standard. Furthermore, the non-slip mat provided in the bathroom clearly reflected a deep consideration for the guests' specific needs. All of this, of course, is a testament to the staff’s proactive service and attentive care. If there was one minor disappointment, I wish a wider variety of pillows had been available in the room. In this regard, I felt it fell slightly short of meeting guests' diverse preferences. Additionally, as a helpful suggestion for safety, designing bathroom doors to open outward to facilitate emergency access in case of an accident inside is a fundamental design principle for luxury hotels. While preventing accidents altogether is ideal, being fully prepared for emergencies is what sets the highest standard of excellence. On another note, despite the hotel being located within a major railway station, there was absolutely no noise. The soundproofing was truly remarkable. The breakfast offered a rich and diverse selection, beautifully balancing traditional Japanese cuisine with Western options. While ordering a more unique or specialized beverage took a bit of time, the quality and taste were highly satisfying. The other facilities, particularly the restaurants and cafes, were exceptionally calm, elegant, and quiet, providing a very pleasant experience. The food, of course, tasted excellent. However, you must ensure you have ample time to enjoy it; it can require a significant amount of time and patience before the food is served in front of you. Overall, our experience was exceptionally satisfying and wonderful. With its rich historical background and narrative, the hotel offered a deeply engaging and far from boring stay.

Might be one of the best cityview hotels in Tokyo. For anyone looking to enjoy an incredible night/ day city view experience and u might be able to see Mount Fuji ! Then this is definitely the place to stay. The location is also very convenient, situated close to most of the main shopping areas in Shinjuku. The only downside is that the hotel is located right next to a train station, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs for better sleep quality. That said, the hotel service was truly exceptional easily one of the best hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. Special mention to the amazing team for making the stay even more memorable.

1. Ubicado junto a la estación de Tokio, con el Daimaru a un lado y el Four Seasons al otro. La estación de Tokio tiene dos salidas principales: Marunouchi y Yaesu. Al llegar a la estación desde el aeropuerto, busque la salida sur de Yaesu; es la más cercana. 2. Para tres personas, reservar dos habitaciones en otro hotel resultaba demasiado pequeño, así que optamos por el Four Seasons con una cama supletoria. Fue estupendo, con un servicio atento y cordial. El señor mayor de la entrada fue muy amable. También ofrecieron aperitivos y chocolates para los niños. 3. Está a diez minutos a pie de Ginza, lo cual es muy práctico. Mi hijo quería ver principalmente la papelería de Itoya…

El hotel está conectado con la zona de llegadas; después de cruzar un pasillo, hay un ascensor que lleva al cuarto piso, donde se encuentra el lobby del hotel. El check-in y check-out se realizan en máquinas de autoservicio, lo cual es muy conveniente. El recibo impreso por la máquina indica claramente qué ascensor tomar para llegar a la habitación más cercana, lo cual es muy lógico. Reservamos una habitación aleatoria y nos dieron una habitación con dos camas individuales, bastante espaciosa y muy limpia. El gel de ducha y el champú del hotel tienen un aroma delicioso, y la presión del agua es excelente, un punto a favor. Las almohadas y el colchón también son muy cómodos para dormir. En el lado izquierdo del vestíbulo del ascensor del hotel hay algunas tiendas. Para mi sorpresa, en Matsumoto Kiyoshi pude obtener un 10% de descuento al presentar la tarjeta de mi habitación.

Tuve una muy buena experiencia alojándome en Kioto Nijo, así que esta vez elegí este hotel de nuevo para mi viaje a Tokio. En general, no lo recomiendo. **Ubicación:** Ya está al lado de Ginza. Caminar desde la estación de Ginza toma diez minutos, lo cual es bastante lejos. La estación de Higashi Ginza está más cerca, pero no tiene muchas líneas. El Lawson más cercano también está a unos tres minutos bajando las escaleras. No hay restaurantes cerca, tienes que cruzar la calle hasta Higashi Ginza o Ginza para comer. El autobús del aeropuerto enfrente del hotel necesita reserva previa, no puedes simplemente ir y subirte. **Limpieza:** La habitación es impecable, muy limpia. Una estrella menos por el onsen público. El agua no es circulante, es agua estancada y había muchísima gente bañándose, así que realmente no estaba limpio. Necesitas traer tus propias toallas para el onsen. **Instalaciones:** Lo que más me disgustó fue que el hotel parecía un hostal de negocios extremadamente tacaño. Para tomar un vaso de agua en el vestíbulo de la recepción, tenías que comprarlo en una máquina expendedora. Si querías café, había una máquina de café de aspecto muy rudimentario (olvidé tomarle una foto) al lado de la máquina expendedora con un cartel que decía '500 yenes'. Eso me pareció un poco descarado. En el Kyoto Nijo, el vestíbulo tenía un bar de bebidas gratuito. Me he alojado en una docena o veinte hoteles en Japón, y es la primera vez que veo que te cobren por un vaso de agua en el vestíbulo. Tampoco vi artículos de tocador gratuitos. Las áreas comunes del hotel son muy bonitas, pero realmente son solo para la vista, la experiencia de estancia no es buena. No me volvería a alojar aquí.

El hotel está situado a unos 20 minutos a pie de JR Shinjuku. El vestíbulo del hotel es precioso y el personal de servicio es educado, proactivo y atento. La configuración del hotel es relativamente antigua. El espacio de la habitación es bastante amplio. Una familia numerosa puede disponer de una cama de 2 metros de ancho. Todos los baños están disponibles. La ventana da al parque Shinjuku, que parece muy agradable.

Fue muy desagradable que, al registrarme, me informaran de que el hotel estaría cerrado por mantenimiento el día de mi partida, por lo que no pude guardar mi equipaje después de la salida. Perdí una hora buscando taquillas en la estación de Otemachi y tuve que pagar 4000 yenes para guardar mi equipaje. Si lo hubiera sabido al reservar, me lo habría pensado dos veces. No era el servicio que esperaba al pagar 1000 dólares la noche.

Lo reservé por la comodidad y porque estaba disponible a última hora, pero diría que es un poco caro para lo que ofrece. La habitación es muy pequeña, pero pudimos acomodar dos maletas grandes. Sin embargo, el baño era espacioso 😂. Lo mejor del hotel fue el onsen/baño público, que era súper cómodo y relajante (baño caliente, baño frío, sauna, duchas) y te dan paletas y yakult gratis según la hora a la que vayas. También hay ramen gratis en la primera planta de 9:30 a 11 p. m. El servicio estuvo bien. La ubicación era excelente y se podía ir andando, pero hay que caminar un poco hasta cualquier estación. Tienen alquiler de scooters y bicicletas eléctricas en la entrada con la aplicación LUUP. Se oye el tren cerca, pero no nos molestó mucho durante la noche.

Lo uso para hacer fila en una tienda de bolas de arroz cercana por la mañana. (Finales de marzo) Fue mi primera vez usando un hotel cápsula, pero la habitación privada era más grande de lo que esperaba. (La habitación tenía aproximadamente el ancho de dos personas cuando me acosté, y había suficiente espacio vertical para no golpearme la cabeza incluso estando sentado, así que estaba bien incluso para alguien como yo, que es un poco claustrofóbico). Me registré después de las 11 p. m. Quizás porque era tarde en la noche, los cuartos de ducha (¿3 o 4 en total?) y los tocadores (8 asientos en total, dos de los cuales tenían secadores de pelo rotos y solo ventilados) estaban vacíos, por lo que no hubo problemas particulares. Creo que también había comodidades. Sin embargo, la zona de mujeres estaba más caliente que la de hombres. Como estaba en la litera de arriba hacía aún más calor y siempre tenía las cortinas medio abiertas, pero aun así estaba sudando cuando me despertaba. Me di una ducha rápida y me preparé a las 8 a. m. y pude usar las instalaciones sin que estuvieran abarrotadas por la mañana. ¡Creo que las cápsulas siguen siendo una buena opción si solo quieres jugar hasta tarde en la noche y luego dormir!
