The hotel is very well located and has stunning views from the terraces. Our room was street side but quiet. The half board program was excellent. Dinner included couvert, wine, salad or soup, main and dessert. Excellent! Breakfast was typical but everything was fresh and plenty to choose from. We did not need air conditioning and were fine with the window ajar. The Wi-Fi was the only drawback as it tended to be spotty.

Las imágenes no tienen nada que ver con lo que luego te vas a encontrar. Realicé una reserva de una habitación superior, que resultó ser una habitación ”normalita” de hotel, no de un 4 estrellas. El hotel tiene potencial, pero desde mi punto de vista no lo saben explotar, las instalaciones están un poco dejadas, ancladas en el pasado. Los muebles, colchones, etc, se nota el paso del tiempo y la limpieza del exterior del hotel, capilla, etc, bastante mejorable. El hotel está publicitado en la carretera con un gran cartel. A medio camino, cuando empiezas a descender, aparece un cartel con un nombre diferente, te hace dudar de si te has perdido o si te has metido en un viñedo equivocado. Continuas bajando la estrecha carretera (solo cabe un coche y no hay sitio para maniobrar, es un viñedo en una de las laderas de la montaña) entre viñedos y de repente te encuentras un edificio iluminado, pequeño que parece una tasca con el nombre en la fachada del hotel, pero sin rastro de señañización. Sigues bajando por la estrecha y sinuosa carretera de adoquines y finalmente llegas a un indicador que pone parking, pero ninguna luz ni indicador de hotel, ni nada. Con una iluminación escasa, sabemos que la luz está cara, o por lo menos en España, pero una iluminación de los accesos y de los alrededores del propio hotel no estarían mal. Nuestra impresión nada más bajarnos del coche fue la de un hotel de los que llamamos en España ”picadero”. La habitación como he indicado antes, básica, simple, se correspondía más con las de un IBIS de dos estrellas que con las de un hotel distinguido en una quinta. Los muebles negros, se les notaba el paso del tiempo y la decoración, nada que ver con las de las fotos que se muestran. El desayuno bufe (un poco escaso para un cuatro estrellas, nuevamente parecía el bufe de un IBIS Style) y su personal, parecía que le faltaba ganas de trabajar, poca pro actividad y empatía con el cliente. Le salva las vistas, aunque tienes que esperar a la mañana siguiente porque ni siguiera los alrededores del viñedo están iluminados, ves una quinta abajo, en la carretera, bien iluminada y que invita a entrar, no como en Quinta Casaldronho. En definitiva, el hotel tiene potencial, pero no han sabido explotarlo.

El hotel está muy bien, pero está aislado de cualquier zona comercial con restaurantes, tiendas y paseo por un puente de pie de madera a 10 minutos a pie de una pequeña ciudad, Rega, para encontrar mi café de la mañana. También compré un cono de cerillas dulces, rojas. Teníamos cuarto 401 en 155E + 46E para la mesa de mitad. La cena de mitad de mesa no fue satisfactoria debido a un gran grupo de viajes en la sala de cenas al mismo tiempo. El servicio era tan lento -- terminado a las 10:45. Tenemos una selección de las principales. Elegimos las filetes de cerdo -- bien. La próxima cena decidimos comer fuera del hotel. Vasco, el gerente del hotel, me dio la petición de cancelar la mitad de la mesa para la segunda noche. La situación es similar en el desayuno donde estaba demasiado abundante el primer día y no se abundó el segundo día. Qué diferencia en el servicio y el placer. Teníamos una vista de la tributaria de Douro y la ciudad de Rega por el agua. Caminar por la calle puede ser peligroso, ya que no hay hombro, y los coches están estacionados al mismo borde de la pista.

No frills, a bit old/dated, but a killer value in a touristy region. Right downtown Regua, next to train station and several nice restaurants and tasting rooms. Just a couple min walk to the banks of the river. Many wineries within a 5-10 min drive. Mediocre mattress/pillows - but about as you'd expect for the price. I'd stay here again. Not sure if there is an elevator FYI.

Excelente hotel, situado a lo largo del río y fácil de alcanzar. La habitación es con vistas al río, realmente escenógrafa. El hotel no tiene un restaurante interno, pero propone una selección de restaurantes sugeridos a 10-15km distancia.

Muy buena estancia, recomendable, lástima la situación actual en la que nos encontramos, no podemos disfrutar de todo lo que se nos permite en una situación normal. Desde el Hotel nada que destacar, excelente personal, cena, buen desayuno diversificado. ¡La higiene, dadas las circunstancias, me pareció buena! Una pequeña alerta para aquellos que deseen adquirir servicios con TRIP.COM Son excelentes para vender, pero luego para ayudar al comprador única y simplemente no responden ni responden más concretamente, ¡no existen! A nice welcoming reception. All the staff appeared to speak english which is very welcome and always makes me realise how lacking the Brits are at languages. We had a deluxe room which had a spectacular view of the river. It also had a small balcony but no seats so seemed a bit pointless. The heat hit us as soon as we opened the door so we tried to lower the air con to 16 degrees but it remained stifling hot. In the end we had to sleep with the balcony door open otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to sleep in the heat (this was March!) The room was really clean with a fridge and complementary bottled water. They had also provided two miniatures of port, custard tarts and biscuits which were very nice and appreciated. However, there is no coffee making facilities in the room. There were nice toiletries but bolted to the walls as is the trend in eco friendly hotels. The pillows were lovely and soft and the towels nice and big. We had a drink in the bar at lunch time and they serve small dishes & tapas. We had a selection of meat, cheeses & breads which was plenty big enough for two for 15 euro. We had half board so had dinner which was lovely. Well presented dishes which were tasty. Mains were around 25 euro if you didn’t have half or full board. Wine 7 euro for a small glass which seemed a bit steep. No table water offered just bottled water to buy. Breakfast provided a good selection of the usual cold meats, cheeses, pastries, cereal & fruit. There was also a small hot food selection. A carafe of your preferred juice was provided. However, the hot drinks were from one machine which meant there was frequently a queue and they weren’t very hot. Not much to ask for fresh tea and coffee at breakfast. The service in the hotel was very friendly throughout which was appreciated.

We arrived this morning, having heard lovely comments, over breakfast, from a guest that stayed here yesterday. We're were not disappointed, the place is a true gem! Whilst booking, several months ago, I somehow managed to get my travel dates wrong and was contacted very quickly, by staff, to query this. My mistake was rectified with no drama and I had very good vibes about the the place. Now, unfortunately, I am a very light sleeper, I'm quite dreadful and the room we were allocated overlooked the railway line, at the rear of the hotel. Whilst I pondered how I would manage, 3 trains went through and my wife told me that I would struggle sleeping. I popped down to reception, apologised and explained my predicament. Not only was I immediately changed to a quieter room, it was also an even nicer room than the first one. I'm sure that this will set the scene for the remainder of our stay here and I feel very lucky and most grateful for the help I've received. Stay at The Original Douro Hotel, it's the nicest place we've stayed at so far during this holiday and I'm sure that you will be asdelighted as I am.

El hotel es hermoso, ubicado en su propio viñedo. También puede participar en su propio tour de vinos y cata de vinos. El desayuno y la cena en el restaurante son de alto nivel. El desayuno está incluido en el precio y la cena no es cara. Nuestro grupo de 6 pidió el menú del menú con maridaje de vinos, y estábamos casi llenos. Dos de nosotros vivíamos en un gran barril de vino, lo cual era divertido pero un poco pequeño (especialmente después de ver las habitaciones de otras personas contrastadas), y había una caminata corta para regresar al edificio del hotel, así que si no es recomendado para niños o personas mayores.
