This B&B is a friendly , fun place to stay . It’s by no means fancy . It’s an 100 year old house decorated with eclectic furniture. It didn’t bother us because we found it fun . Everything in our room was in working order and very clean. Our suite was large and super comfortable. We had a living area with a kitchenette and a TV separate from the bedroom area . I do agree with other reviewers that the rugs need a good cleaning . Each morning we had a great breakfast and coffee. We spent lots of time on the porch reading and chatting with the other guests .

Our stay at the Inn at the Gorge in the Cascade Suite was a major letdown. As avid visitors to Hood River, we were excited to try out this inn, but it failed to meet even basic expectations. Pros: The check-in process was straightforward with no need for interaction, and parking was conveniently located next to the inn. While the lobby boasted pastries, the lack of advertised kombucha on tap was disappointing. We appreciated the quietness of the place during our stay, likely due to fewer guests in the winter months. Cons: The main reason we chose this inn was for the hot tub, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. We specifically chose this place for its advertised hot tub, eagerly anticipating a relaxing soak after a day exploring the gorge. However, what we found upon opening the lid was far from idyllic. The hot tub emitted a strong odor of mildew, and the water was a repulsive shade of yellow, indicating a severe lack of cleanliness and maintenance. It was evident that the tub hadn't been properly cleaned or drained for some time. This was a major letdown considering it was the primary reason for selecting this inn. Despite being aware that it was winter, it's unacceptable to advertise an amenity that is clearly neglected and unusable. Just because there may be fewer guests during this season doesn't justify neglecting maintenance. Guests have every right to expect the amenities promised on the website to be in a usable state regardless of the time of year. We received a text from the owner on our last day informing us that check out was at 11:00am and asked us to leave the door ajar when ready to check out. On the morning of our departure, after prepacking our car and heading off to an early breakfast, we closed the door completely indicating we were NOT ready to check out. Despite following instructions we returned at 10:25am to find a staff member cleaning our room, well before the designated checkout time of 11:00 am. When questioned, the staff member seemed confused and cited that he thought we had left since our belongings were gone, yet he shouldn't have entered a room with a closed door as per the inn's own instructions. This isn't an isolated incident; a previous reviewer (Cary G, one year ago on Jan 2023 titled "BUYER BEWARE") encountered a similar issue with cleaning staff entering their room prior to the designated check out time, indicating a systemic problem with communication and management. The owner's response to previous negative reviews, including the one from Cary G in January 2023, is indicative of a serious problem with communication and accountability. Despite claiming to take matters seriously, it's evident that little action has been taken to address ongoing issues. The lack of integrity displayed and failure to rectify persistent problems, is deeply concerning. It's unacceptable for an owner to be unable to effectively communicate with their own staff and to repeatedly fail to address long-standing issu

Great place if you don’t want to see or deal with anyone. Breakfast is average but great location away from noisy train

Inn at the Gorge is the right base of operations for anything you might be up to in Hood River. An easy hour from Portland, you are in the sweet spot for exploring water falls, wine tasting, checking out the local shops and restaurants or all of the above. Fresh coffee and crepes or omelettes each morning and you are fueled for the day. Owner Michael and night manager Brandon and the other staff are more than accommodating, you feel like you are staying with old friends, not another corporate generic hotel. In fact they hosted a thanksgiving weekend party with live music, flowing wine and a good time chatting with the other guests. We had the most relaxing weekend ever and will definitely be back when we need to retreat. People and dog friendly.

I saw the web site for the Inn an thought it would be a good place to take my wife for her birthday. It looked charming and upscale from the street, we loved the idea of a hot tub after a long November hike in the gorge and a gourmet breakfast as shown in the pictures. What we got was quite different. When we arrived at 4:00 there was no one there to let us in or greet us. There was no kombucha, cookies, pastries, or anything in the lobby. We found our room, the Rose room. The bed was nice, but everything else was crowded and shabby at best, with power *****s on the floor, a space heater for heat, old carpet, and an old sofa. The bathroom was so cramped that you have to swivel sideways to sit on the toilet. Never the less, we thought we would make the most of things. We changed into our swim suits and made our way to the hot tub shown in the lovely web site pictures. When we got there, the water was cold and there was no power to the tub. Standing out in the cold, we tried for several minutes to get it going when eventually someone came out from the house and told us it doesn't work. At least a sign would have been nice. The gourmet breakfast described in detail and pictured on the website also did not materialize. We got coffee out of an air pot, not espresso like in the pictures. We were given a single, very dry crepe, which sat all alone on the plate. No eggs, no pastries, no fruit, no berries, no juice, no butter, no syrup, nothing else. Again, nothing even close to the web site. I could go on about the poor, worn condition of the building, but I will close with a warning - the second floor has no fire escape. You can do much better in Hood River - I am sorry to say.....

Overall I think Inn at the Gorge is a lovely spot. We arrived and we’re able to enter with the code provided, unfortunately the door code to our room wasn’t working though. We called the phone number provided and could hear the phone ringing, but no one answered. We also sent a text (as instructed to do) but no one responded. We went out to dinner and by the time we returned, we still hadn’t heard from anyone. We ended up just exploring around the inn and found an employee in the basement area and asked him to help. It seemed as though he didn’t regularly work there, but was able to get us into our room. We added on the breakfast as suggested by other reviews, unfortunately the food wasn’t anything spectacular. We had an omelet with toast both mornings, but it was nothing like some of the breakfasts in the photos. It was nice to get served in the communal area, but I wasn’t overly impressed. There was fresh coffee brewed, but half of the mugs looked like they still had coffee on the rim and hadn’t been cleaned properly. I was a little disappointed in our time there.

Beautiful inn, a bit confusing without anyone there to greet us but the instructions worked well. Breakfast in my opinion is simply over thought simply offer scrambled eggs home fries and toast, a bagel with cream cheese this seems to be the same issue at most inns we have stayed at, when our breakfast was served they forgot to give us utensils to eat with oops. We definitely would stay here again as it really is a great small business!!

We were very disappointed in the value of the inn versus the price we paid. If you are older or have knee issues, this is not the place to stay as you will have to carry your luggage up a steep staircase and the clawtub/shower combo is an accident risk as it is small and nothing to hold on to in case you lose your balance. We stayed in the Cascade Room. It is also a hilly walk to and from downtown. If you want to spend more time in the downtown area, I recommend staying on Oak Street.
