We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Luana Inn. The grounds are gorgeous and the hosts (Carol and Kevin) are so welcoming, helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Ala'ula suite which had everything that we needed -- an amazingly comfortable king-size bed, adequate kitchen, lovely outdoor lanai and wifi. We will definitely return!

A fantastic place to stay! We found this place on the day that Kona airport closed due to a runway crack. Diana is a great host. We arrived there almost midnight, Diana waited for us and helped us get settled in. Next morning, we woke up to an amazing sea view. Diana showed us around and gave us a very thorough guide to nearby scenic spots. It is very close to the best snorkeling spot on the Big Island. The property has a sauna and swimming pool, which is great. It is also easy to find nice restaurants nearby.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the Moana room, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We chose Luana Inn because of its location near our favorite snorkeling spot...Two Step. The grounds are beautiful and the caretaker,, Wendy, was friendly and helpful...even providing a box fan so we could sleep in comfort without running the air conditioning (I hate sleeping in air conditioning). Such peaceful surroundings with the sounds of the frogs at night and the birds in the day. A beautiful view and amazing sunsets!

Luana Inn was everything we hoped and more. Very clean and fantastic views! It is private with a coded gate. There is a saltwater pool and hot tub after a day of snorkeling down the hill. Diana and Yussef were wonderful hosts. Anything we needed was available. Mark was helpful as well, giving good advice on beaches in the area. Best of all, this was affordable for us. Highly recommend!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a full week and loved it! Our room was right next to the pool with a beautiful view. The place is quiet, and not many guests so it feels private as well. We felt right at home at Luana Inn and even had a direct line with the caretaker for any questions or concerns. The location is out of the touristy area, in a more rural place near some really amazing snorkeling spots like 2 step, where we saw a group of wild dolphins in the cove! We had free parking that was essential. There are some restaurants and shops nearby and it's a lovely drive through windy, beautiful island roads. As soon as we left I felt like this was home away from home and I can't wait to go back. We stayed in the Mahina room which was very comfortable and had everything we needed like a sink, microwave and coffee/tea setup. There is a powerful air conditioner inside and nice blackout curtains if you like it dark to sleep. The hot tub is always running and is so wonderful to sit in and watch the stars. The flowers and trees on the property are gorgeous, so no matter if you stay there all day to relax or go on adventures nearby, the Luana Inn is far superior to any hotel chain. It's home!

Wow 😯 that’s what I said when I got to the property. It is secluded, super relax and it has everything you need or want. The landscape is beautiful and the views from the pool area are breathtaking. It is well maintained and the manager is always a call away to help. Perfect spot to get away from the city and is good for couples or families.

I don't like writing negative reviews, but there's no way around this. We had 5 nights booked in the Alaula Suite, but left the property after two. As soon as we arrived to the room, we decided we were not comfortable staying and wanted to leave, so spent half a day researching alternative hotels which meant we lost a day of our holiday which is a shame as we were visiting for honeymoon. Pro's: 1. The room was large, so could accommodate for additional guests. 2. Check-in was easy (although you'll need a US phone or the ability to call abroad to contact the inn-keeper). 3. It was secluded, we didn't see another single person whilst there (including the inn-keeper after check-in). We were able to access our room an hour earlier than check-in as the inn-keeper had finished turning it over. 4. If you're interested in visiting Captain Cook's Monument, or the Captain Cook area, then it's very close. 5. The internet is good, and there's a new TV with a large number of channels (be wary though of what previous guests have searched for on youtube....!) Con's: 1. The smell in the bathroom, I can't explain it, but we didn't want to use the bathroom. 2. Cleanliness; the sofabed was stained, the fridge was dirty (although we asked the inn-keeper to clean it straight away which she did), the shower curtain was stained and mouldy and there were ants along the kitchen side. Regarding the ants, yes the property is in the jungle, but I don't think leaving an ant infestation on/around an area designed for food preparation is adequate. 3. The property and bathroom was DATED, the bathroom especially. 4. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, I don't know how that's acceptable to leave as-is. 5. The air-con units were old and weak. We had both on full and it took hours for the room to cool down so when we took a closer look we realised the filters were completely clogged and looked like they'd never been cleaned. Not acceptable. 6. There's no blind on the porch door so anyone walking past could look straight in facing the bed. 7. The porch furniture was dirty and broken, we didn't want to sit out there at all. As I said, we arrived, we didn't feel comfortable staying, so we decided to move hotels. I informed the owner via Email, and we had a brief Email exchange. She offered compensation which sounded great, but after a few Emails, the compensation she was offering was a free visit next year after the room was renovated. I informed her we live in the UK, have a small child and this visit was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our honeymoon so returning wouldn't be possible for us. I asked what other compensation could be offered and I heard nothing......I'm still waiting for a response.....sounds like a hollow offer.

We didn't want to stay at a resort closer to KOA airport but rather looked for something with more character, a killer view, and something more romantic as we overlapped our stay here overlapped our anniversary - I think it delivered for the most part of what we are looking for but there are definitely areas for improvement here and with the new inn keeper Sheila I can see how they can get addressed as this property has a "killer potential"! Location: you are about 45m easy scenic drive south from the KOA airport - you can explore the west of Big Island from here but I suggest using this location to explore the near coffee farms (there is sooooo many of them!) and otherwise staying closer to the airport if you want more beach/restaurants options as driving once in a day 45m to the airport is one thing but if you go any more further up from here each day it's 1.5h at the very least round trip so that adds up pretty fast and there are much better things to do on this unique island that burning time in the car for nothing :) we planned our trip around the island with 3 nights in Hilo and the last 2 nights in Captain Cook - it worked out perfectly with the Volcanoes National Park on the day of the hotel change - otherwise from this hotel or anything west coast it's a much longer and slower drive (curves, couple small towns with school) which would take you about 1.5h drive - this area is perfect for Kona Coffee farms, and for that it worked out perfectly as planned :) Hotel Grounds: Luanna Inn is a basically a beautiful private property turned into a villa rental with individual units - so everyone has their own room, bathroom, separate entrance to the room but there are common grounds like gardens, beautiful swimming pool, tables/loungers, steam room (looked brand new), inside space with books etc. - it's a somewhat homey feeling even though there is no actual usual service - Sheila is the inn keeper and she is there to answer your questions but don't expect a check in lobby/desk etc. you communicate with her about your arrival and she provides you all the necessary info - the view is a killer from here and even though on the 2 nights we stayed it was cloudy and we didn't get to do any stargazing (as hoped for... what can you do... can't blame nature!) we still enjoyed the sunsets! There are parking spots for the guests and getting in and out of the property is by the code/remote opener (you get to use the latter during your stay) Room: we had the Moana room - which is I believe the only room (except I want to say for one in a completely separate building that holds another room/villa) not on the swimming pool side (+ of course the 2nd floor one right above it) - so you get less "traffic" if you want to just chill and take in the views in more private environment (not like it ever got crowded at a pool... you just get to meet some people there and sometimes it's a good... or a bad thing for some as well) - we were able to access the room as soon
