The Gateway Lodge

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lodge. Great quiet location close to everything. Nice modern and cozy rooms with comfortable beds and nice added touches. Friendly and accommodating staff in all areas and the included breakfast was the BEST we had in all 2 weeks of our trip! Generous portions and delicious French toast!

I was admittedly a bit disappointed with our stay at Gateway Lodge. I may have booked the wrong room category but I thought I was getting a modern looking room in what I assume is the newer section of the hotel. We stayed in room 22 in the main building and were disappointed. There were no curtains and the blinds were difficult to operate (after pulling them up we could hardly get them to come back down) and didn't close tightly, so the room got light very early in morning. We found the mattress to be really thin and uncomfortable, though I suppose this is subjective. The bathroom was renovated and the shower had good water pressure. Our biggest issue though was how hot the room was; after 3 warm days in Ireland it was very warm in the room. The wind was not blowing in the right direction so the open window did not help. The small fan provided was not enough to circulate the air in the room. All of this made for quite a poor night's sleep. We also found the woman at the desk on check-in a bit unfriendly; it seemed like we were bothering her. On the contrary, the woman at the desk on check out was lovely and so friendly. The hotel is very well located and just a few minutes' walk into the town centre. The hotel was also very quiet at night which I appreciated. Parking was free and ample. I'd be willing to give this place another try one day just perhaps in a different room category.

I arrived at 6pm, and was told the restaurant doesn't serve food in the evening, so after travelling all day, I then had to drive to find dinner. I stayed in room 9, which had no wifi. It would go on, and then straight off due to poor signal. This also affected the TV which kept losing signal. As I was on a business trip, this was very annoying whilst trying to work. The room was basic and felt bare due to wooden floors and no curtains on the window. Breakfast was very nice, but I won't be staying here again, as they should offer decent wifi and food as a minimum.

We stayed 21/4/24 in room 25. The lass on reception was just wonderful, warm, welcoming and helpful. The night porter later in the evening was also really lovely. The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated, roomy and very comfortable. Breakfast wasn’t the traditional pile it high buffet but was exceptionally tasty and cooked with great care. Fabulous stay and a highlight of our trip especially as it’s only a few minutes walk into the town where we found a pub packed with locals and traditional Irish music being played. Brilliant Irish hospitality at its best!

I stayed in the Gateway Lodge before the staff are so friendly and helpful, the food is lovely and the rooms are very nice I highly recomend for a midweek or weekend break, its very close to the town centre were lots to do and enjoy. But I really enjoyed my stay in the Gateway Lodge thank you to all the staff.

We really liked this hotel in every respect. It's a short walk into Donegal from the hotel. There's ample on-site parking (always a plus in Europe). The room was very spacious, immaculately clean, and comfortable. The room was a rather contemporary design and the rate was very reasonable in comparison to other Irish hotels we stayed at. Finally, the attached restaurant served the best breakfast we ate in Ireland.

Stayed here on a Sunday night while traveling through. The room was large and warm with an excellent shower. Also reasonably priced. Layla (sp?) at the front desk was charming and helpful upon my arrival. She's a definite asset to the Gateway.

The accommodation was great, everything was very clean, and modern furnishings done to a high standard. Easy checks in and central to the town as well. Breakfast was 💯 🤌 stay for the breakfast! They also made adjustments for mine which was GF.

Hottest hotel we've ever stayed in. Super stuffy. No air. Very clean and staff was super nice.
