I visited The Publishing House in fall of 2021 and had a wonderful experience. I have been raving about it and hoping to return ever since. Finally, last week (May 2024), I was able to return for three nights...just before my son leaves Chicago. This is a unique hotel experience...a feast for all senses. Lovely colors, interesting artwork, welcoming plants, round the clock coffee and tea, the most glorious area carpets...every space invites you in. If you want to relax you can read in your room or read, as I did, in a window seat with sun coming in, pillows and throws to increase the comfort...it's like visiting a friend in their most interesting and lovely home. The staff was freindly and helpful at every turn. The breakfast choices each morning were fresh and delicious: fruit salad, muffins or breads, and a choice such as omelette, frittata, waffles, quesadillas. Without any arrogance, the beauty and warmth of this bed and breakfast simply lifts the spirit.

This b&b was safe, in a good neighbor and located close to the activities that we had to attend. The room was clean and the towels were very good. The staff, who were there, were polite and attentive when we had questions. Even thought it was the first weekend in May, it was cold and the heat in the room did not work properly, and three people who were in the wedding party tried to figure out the thermostat but couldn't. It was difficult to contact a staff member since using their desk telephone always went to voice mail. Overall, breakfast was good except on the last day, I asked for a second waffle, but was told I could not have one. Now, really, a waffle is only flour, water and salt. We did not want housekeeping in our room, so I felt that was a fair exchange. I would recommend this establishment, but would find out how a staff member could be contacted, if needed. Elayne & Kevin

Truly outstanding stay - from the bath with soaking salts, to the beautiful room design and toiletries. Breakfast was absolutely delicious (fruit, scones, omelette, great coffee), with great hospitality. A much needed and appreciated alternative to the mediocre, big chain hotels. I wish I could have stayed longer and enjoyed the library space too.

We loved out stay at The Publishing House. We stayed in The Harvey room and it felt like we were in a roomy, cozy, chic loft apar**ent in the city. The breakfasts are delicious and the common areas are big and open, but warm and chic. We loved the vibe. Importantly, it is impeccably clean and well-kept. We have already recommended it to three of our friends.

This is one of the best and well thought out B&B I’ve ever stayed at. Attention to detail is how I can best describe it. The decor was colorful and hip yet comfy. The rooms where were aesthetically pleasing and the shower was spacious and beds so comfortable. The staff was friendly and the breakfeast was delicious and healthy with all the fruit and a little tasty treat to satisfy the sweet tooth. I would stay again and again.

I was fortunate to discover these people and this place a few years before the pandemic - it was like a dream. Brilliantly curated, beautiful to the details, thoughtful, delicious, comfortable and attractive to such interesting people. The owners and staff are friendly, welcoming and talented. People you hope you’re interesting enough to be friends with. And, I’m delighted to say, it has lost nothing in the years since I was last there. It’s perfect. So happy!

We won a trip to Chicago so had no influence over where we’d be staying.. well we weren’t disappointed. The Publishing House is impeccably laid out and decorated, the service & breakfasts are outstanding, the hosts were incredibly welcoming & we adored the resident pooches, Angus & Louie! We’d recommend this to anyone considering Chicago for a trip, one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in

My husband and I absolutely loved staying here! from the ease of check in to the stylish room we couldn't ask for more. The breakfast was amazing and the tea and coffee selection was superb. The common area/breakfast room is fun to hang out in and take in the city sights and sounds and we had a great lunch and outstanding dinner just a few minutes walk from the B&B. Grabbing an Uber to go anywhere you want in the city was super easy too. We'd stay again in a heart beat!

At every turn, you will be pleasantly surprised - be it the well-furnished, eclectic rooms, the library full of great reads, the freshly-made breakfasts with a great menu every day, the butler’s pantry, to the cozy living room with the fireplace and piano. The Publishing House is a true gem of Chicago and offers great service and value, and I would definitely stay here again.
