From reading reviews of this guesthouse prior to travelling, I expected to have a wonderful experience at this guesthouse. Sadly, that turned out not to be the case. Pro: I arrived on the ferry from Kirkwall and was able to check in right away, which was great. Andrew was very helpful. The location is great, within walking distance of central Lerwick and easy to drive out of town if you are using a car. Breakfasts were hearty and filling; the porridge was delicious. Con: On 3 different days, there were bugs in the bathroom; not just little bugs but insects that were half an inch long or more. The first morning, when I first saw a bug, Andrew got rid of it; the second time it was a large spider in the minuscule shower that I had to flush down the drain myself because it was late at night; the third time, two bugs were crawling on the floor and when I asked Andrew to take of it, Caroline took a look and upon seeing the larger bug, her response was, "Oh, they're harmless; I'll clean the room." That really wasn't reassuring. Additionally, the bedding was dirty; Caroline said she would clean it and she did but it still wasn't as clean as it could be. Also, the curtains were very light-colored and there was no shade so the room was still very bright even late at night; fortunately I had an eye mask and used that to fall asleep. This particular room was in the Solheim wing right next to the kitchen and not far from the front door; as a result, it was rather noisy because I could hear the staff and other guests through the thin walls. Bottom line: If you can't find another place to stay, this one may be okay. However, after spending 5 nights here, I was very ready to leave.
