The Florian Hotel

While the Florian motel is a reasonable choice for accommodation, be careful with your dining experience. Our first night we enjoyed a five course tasting experience that was the best meal we had in the province. First course Smoked Char under dome and smoked again at table. Seafood chowder (if you cut a chef from the Maritimes they bleed chowder). Scallop ceviche. Cod in a light paprika sauce. Cheesecake with bake apples. The cheesecake base was rich with a cream taste I didn’t identify. Bake apples were plump and firm—barely cooked. Overall a superbly crafted and executed dinner. Day 2– an okay meal with nothing spectacular on offer but okay. Day 3— the worst dinner I had on the trip. A vegetable stir fry with shrimp that offered few vegetables and dubious stir fry abilities drowned in a vast pool of supermarket style honey garlic sauce that made the dish unbearably sweet. The veggies consisted of 2 slices of zucchini, 3 small florets of cauliflower and 4 small florets of broccoli plus a smattering of stewed mushrooms. I counted the veggies as I searched the sauce for edible portions. The shrimp were over cooked too. It is curious that the hotel restaurant could provide the heights of culinary prowess at the same time as the nadir of dining. The kitchen obviously has some talent but the guess is that unless the executive chef is cooking, be cautious about dining there. FYI their continental breakfast was similar—-good first time, not worth it subsequent days due to lack of offerings and messy tables with no staff

I’ve been travelling the Labrador coast for more than 30 years. Last year, while staying at my usual hotel , someone recommended the dining room at the Florian Hotel. We made a reservation & dined here. It was very very good. While I was here, I took note that of the hotel accommodation. Fast forward to 2023, we checked in to the Florian yesterday, the rooms are super nice, modern, upscale furniture. However, the dining room is my main focus here. The service & the food is worthy of note. There were 5 of us, we ordered lobster salad & cod tongues for appetizers, main course included, poached cod drizzled lightly with lemon butter & blackened salmon. Beautiful presentation, cooked perfectly. You will not be disappointed , and yes, the views from the dining room are quite nice. One of my guests commented “ I’ve been coming to Labrador for 30 years, this is the best food I’ve ever eaten in Labrador!”

Very welcoming and pleasant stay at this hotel with confortable clean rooms and impressive dining experience. Especially from Chef Ange's amazing meals menu with gastronomic preparation and being so caring with personalised serving style. Greatly appreciated!

Best cooking in Newfoundland & Labrador. Motel type accommodation with self service continental breakfast. Good dinner menu with delicious specials. Friendly staff. Highly recommended. Clean and comfortable.

This hotel is very nice. King size bed, all the amenities and the friendliest staff. The absolutely most wonderful part of our stay was dinner Chef Ange is a standout in this remote area She is world class we ate there two nights. Here basque cod was the best cod I’ve ever eaten Next night was black squid ink pasta and spicy shrimp. Again exceptional. She sources locally. Great place to see icebergs

The rooms are modern and clean. Nice bed linen. Plenty of parking and a nice restaurant over looking the ocean. Food was good. Check in was easy and a table booked for us for dinner. Rooms are quiet. A good stay.

This is a great boutique hotel! The rooms are comfortable, clean, and spacious. We were here with a group of 18 people on a tour for two nights. We had wonderful breakfasts, prepared by the chef, both days, and the dinners were fantastic. I understand that there is continental breakfast only if you are staying on your own, but I saw what they had laid out and it was certainly plentiful. The dinner was so so good. We had a wonderful stay at Florian‘s, and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

This super clean, modern, well appointed hotel has an exceptional restaurant. First, the room - our bed was very comfortable, the linens were good quality, the decor was modern and the room was spacious and well designed. Most importantly, it was spotlessly clean. Second, the restaurant - WOW! The blackened salmon with salad, and the seafood trio starters were exceptional. We highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.
