We have just returned from a 2 night stay in the Roman Camp Hotel and it was perfect in every way. Prior to our stay, whenever I contacted the hotel, the staff were polite and extremely helpful. On arrival everything I had requested was exactly as I could have wished for. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel building itself was wonderful, so quirky with lots of fascinating rooms and features. Six of us dined in the Potting Shed Bistro on the first night and the food was exceptional and was enjoyed by everyone. I can thoroughly recommend a stay in this hotel and we can't wait to go back again.

We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wife's 60 birthday and we weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived until leaving we were made to feel very welcome and 100% the focus of our hosts. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in the Barrie suite. We opted to take advantage of the fine dining restaurant on our first night and a less formal meal in the potting shed bistro on the Saturday. Which by the way, was no less enjoyable than its predecessor. Friday night's fayre was excellent - thank you chef McNaught. Lots of different flavours, textures and aromas, visually pleasing to the eye and well presented throughout. Without detailing the whole menu, I chose John Dory [sadly not seen enough on restaurant menus in my opinion] to start, followed by Lamb and a cheese selection. My wife choosing Salmon as her main course and a chocolate/cherry desert which she enjoyed immensely. Everything was truly exceptional. I should say, so many restaurants offer cheese but invariably serve it straight from the fridge [disaster for any cheese lover!] I'm pleased to report not so at the Roman Camp - the suggestion that if cheese was a preference then order it in advance so it can acclimatise to it's surroundings was music to my ears! [thanks Pauola] I should say a special thank you to Pauola and Christian who really did look after us. Their eye to detail and eagerness to ensure everything was to our liking was self evident and a breath of fresh air. I imagine that the Roman Camp Hotel has been a labour of love for the owners Eric & Marion Brown over their tenure - the décor/artefacts provide an air of nostalgia and we detected a sense of a very personal timeline of events making it difficult to pinpoint any specific era through furniture/fittings - that said, the maintenance of the fabric throughout demonstrates that there is no ageing, no drab or shabby textiles everything is clean and well looked after from carpets to bed linen to seat covers. Although we are still in the grips of Winter - Spring just around the corner and the grounds look well on it especially after the extremely wet time of late. We had a short [but pleasant] walk around - there are so many curios and follies to keep interest levels high and with the close proximity to the river Teith - I imagine the summer months would be stunningly beautiful. I hope it won't be too long before we can return!

Lovely comfortable stay is this charming old hotel, situated in lovely grounds by the river. Staff were attentive and welcoming and always willing to chat. The lounge and library were mega comfortable with big sofas and chairs in the character of the building. Breakfast was excellent and food in both the potting shed and restaurant was most enjoyable if on the expensive side. Our sort of place, but perhaps not for those seeking minimalist or perfection. We will stay again to relax and enjoy, whether walking, touring around the area, or simply sitting reading in comfort by the fire.

First time visiting this hotel & hopefully not the last. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by friendly staff. The hotel is so lovely & has an amazing history. The food is wonderful. We ate in the potting shed. Brilliant. Breakfast was one of the best. Gillian seems to run the hotel. So efficient & very friendly. Lovely waitress in potting shed also.

We went to the Potting Shed for their festive menu as a pre-Chris**as treat on the 23rd and it did not disappoint. Restaurant was lovely and cosy and the food… sublime! We had the duck rillette and baked camanbert then cod and venison, all of which was cooked to perfection and generous portions. Staff were attentive yet discreet which I think is great. We asked if we could have our dessert course in the hotel which they very kindly obliged so we got to enjoy our cheese, coffee and mince pies in the Drawing Room beside a roaring fire. The hotel looks beautiful all dressed up for Chris**as, the trees are absolutely stunning, I think we managed a picture with them all. Would highly recommend… we’re looking forward to coming back in the New Year.

This is a beautiful hotel. The public rooms are stunning - especially at this time of year with the Chris**as decorations, candles and roaring fires. The hotel is set in 20 acres of gardens beside the River Teith but is still easy walking distance to the town centre. Our room (a standard double) was nicely furnished, spacious, warm and comfortable. The food at dinner and breakfast was excellent. We found the staff to be friendly a d helpful. As you can tell, we really liked this hotel! We can’t wait to return.

We've got the joy of a December anniversary, and when you combine this with the festive menu at The Roman Camp, you're in for a perfect evening. On arrival, we were brought to the lounge and served a glass of red and a glass of prosecco with some canapé, which were stunning! After relaxing over our nibbles and placing our festive dinner orders, we were led to the dining room and served our perfect Chris**as Dinner. Both started with scallops (awesome) and followed with traditional turkey and trimmings (similarly fabulous). Julie had the dark chocolate tart for dessert while I enjoyed the delicious cheese selection. All accompanied with our prosecco and a delightful shiraz. Off to the library after dinner to enjoy a port, a Baillies, and a couple of perfect coffees in front of a roaring fire. You'll go a very long way to find a better way to celebrate anything in a more perfect setting than The Roman Camp. Marion, Eric, and your team, we love you!

Driving up through the central belt of Scotland we stopped off at Roman Camp Hotel, a fairly difficult entrance to find between two houses on the Main Street, but clear instructions between two pink houses. A stunning location of a hotel tucked behind the Main Street within what looked a large amount of grounds. We parked our car which was easy, walked to the Hotel, a very large house painted pink, through the very old front door into the reception area where we were met by a lovely lady who could have been the owner. We asked if we could have a coffee and was shown into the library a stunning panelled room, together with the bow fronted drawing room next door created around 1840. A large open fire had been lit so the room felt warm and comforting, we peeped into the original Catholic Chapel, small enough for a Priest and a couple of people. We decided to walk around the ground, although a cold day we walked along the riverbank, and looked around the other parts of the garden and into the walled garden. We decided to look into the “Potting Shed” a sort of bistro, the menu looked very inviting so stayed for lunch. We all had the chicken dish with crushed potatoes was lovely and well presented and it was clear cooked to order. We then ordered 3 puddings all different, coffee to follow. The young waiter was very polite and talked about the area and Roman Camp its clear he enjoyed his work. We went back to the hotel and had tea in the drawing room, again well presented with lovely REAL tea. We spent a lovely day in this part of the day but had an appoin**ent in the Trossachs so had to leave, but we will be back in the spring. Thank you, Roman Camp, for giving us such a lovely day.
