Das Hotel Next in Funchal auf Madeira überzeugt durch seine ausgezeichnete Lage direkt am Wasser. Die Zimmer, obwohl geräumig, neigen dazu, aufgrund ihrer Dunkelheit eine etwas gedämpfte Atmosphäre zu schaffen. Trotzdem punktet das Hotel mit komfortablen Betten, moderner Einrichtung und ansprechenden Badezimmern. Das Frühstück, serviert in einer Art Kantine, weist eine begrenzte Auswahl auf und die Qualität könnte verbessert werden. Ein Highlight ist jedoch der Beach Club am Wasser, der, obwohl ohne Strand, mit einem Pool und direktem Zugang zum Meer über einen Steg positiv hervorsticht.

Hotel Quinta Da Penha De Franca is within it's own complex and is up the hill from its sister hotel Quinta Penha de Franca Mar. You can use the facilities within Quinta Penha de Franca Mar as well. Both are linked together by means of a private bridge which goes over the road, this is pretty seamless, but you do have to go out the door of the De Franca and buzz back in, but too much of an issue. Quinta Da Penha De Franca is set within gardens and has a heated pool which can be used, complimentary pool towels provided. You can also use the pool at Franca Mar which is unheated, but was still warm enough, and is salt water, from here you also have direct private access to the sea. Rooms are of a good size, I would recommend staying in the main complex rooms. There are around 4 rooms which are around Rooms 40-44 which are separate from the main complex, that can be nice, but note the Irish Bar is just over the wall, so can be a little noisy at times. Rooms were clean, air conditioning good, TV and mini bar, which if you want to indulge was good value. Beds were big, and very comfy which helped for a good nights sleep. Room Service is also available, though oddly no complimentary tea & coffee provided in the room, which I would expect in a four star. The location is excellent, on the edge of the hotel area means a short walk into town, and short walk to other restaurants and bars in the hotel district so a real positive. Parking is also very good, they have a large free to use carpark, so brilliant if you are planning to hire a car to explore the island like we did, we had no issues parking. Breakfast was also very good, a mix of continental, Portuguese and cooked buffet options. Service was friendly and overall a very enjoyable stay was had.

Estuvimos alojados 3 noches, el matrimonio y dos hijas de 18 y 14 años, cogimos una junior suite, nos la dieron en la planta 2, tiene 18, frente a las piscinas, que una está en la planta 1, una habitación grandisima, con sofá cama, separado x pared, la cama de matrimonio , enorme, y separada x un biombo, otra cama de 90, o sea que dormíamos juntos pero sin vernos, con 3 balcones, y un cuarto de baño con ducha con todos los chorros imaginables, dos lavabos, y bañera con hidromasaje, en fin, nos encantó, que como dicen algunos comentarios, podían renovar algunos muebles, pero para mi, estaban bien. Teníamos solo desayuno, un buffet variado. El hotel es muy grande, con varias plantas, piscinas en la 1 y en la 0, ahí puedes acceder al mar, x unas escaleras, ya que esta isla no tiene playas. Dos piscinas climatizadas y dos jacuzzi, incluidos, las piscinas exteriores cierran a las 19:00, muy pronto, la verdad, que mínimo que a las 20:00, hago aquí una mención. Y las climatizadas a las 20:00 , así que ahí terminábamos el día. Las toallas de la piscina están incluidas. Para ir al centro de funchal, salir del hotel y a la derecha, unos 15/20 minutos andando, ir se va mejor pues es hacia abajo, luego ya para regresar todo cuestas. Para ir al aeropuerto o venir os recomiendo tenerlo contratado con un transfer, pues es precio fijo 25/27 € , un taxi cobra 45€. Madeira tiene su encanto, recomendable, mínimo 5 días,

Having just spent 5 nights at Ocean Gardens I think it represents really good value for money. There’s a few things that if addressed would have made my stay perfect but I think back to how reasonably priced this place was and I don’t think you can expect perfection. Firstly I’ll mention the beautiful views. From my room and balcony I could see out into the ocean and it’s lovely. Unfortunately this also looks out onto a road which at times was a little noisy. If you’re a light sleeper this may bother you in the morning. From the restaurant and pool areas you can see out into the bay of Funchal. This is an exceptional view. The restaurant was lovely, brilliant setting and good service. The food is well cooked and represents typical food of the area. Though it’s very meat-heavy! There was music playing on a few nights that made me want to pierce my ear drums but that’s personal taste! The room itself was spacious but a little dated. At first I was impressed by the huge bed but it was in fact two singles pushed together not not fixed together. Having two single mattresses meant I really only slept on one for fear of falling down the middle so was a bit disappointing that I spent a week on a single bed tbh. That bathroom is spacious and clean. However I didn’t ever get what I’d consider to be HOT water. Either from the sink, bath or shower. It was warm at best. The room has floorboards and whilst a nice feature it means when someone in walking in the room above or to the side of you, you hear every step! Wifi is patchy at best. Ok in the room but elsewhere in the hotel not so great. Not brilliant because 4G service isn’t perfect in the area either. It rained a few times while I was there and both times that resulted in my balcony being flooded due to there being a slope. The pool area is lovely. Lots of space and loungers. The pics on here don’t do it justice. How’re eve the pool was REALLY cold! Expected for the time of the year and it meant the pool and area were very quiet. Staff are efficient and friendly. The shuttle into Funchal was good but it’s also easy to get into Funchal from the busy stop on front of the hotel at anytime. Reception only give you details for Bus 39 when I’m fact there’s about 4 or 5 buses that can take you on and bring you back. It’s about €2 a trip and they run into the evening. All in all I enjoyed my stay and as above I do this it represents good value for money. But if you’re expecting sleek, modern and perfection you’d maybe want to spend more and look elsewhere.
