The Smile Hotel Premium Hakodate Goryokaku is a typical Japanese business hotel, so although the photos of the rooms may look as though the rooms are reasonably spacious, in reality it’s just a typical business hotel, with minimal space.  While this should not be a big issue for many guests, if you’ve not experienced it before, be ready for a rather space limited experience.  Having said that, the room was quite clean and apart from some scuff marks on the walls, it presented quite well.  It’s also important to note, that since it’s a business hotel the bathroom is quite small, with the bathroom wash basin protruding into the bath tub & shower area and the toilet was clearly designed for significantly smaller users.  Apart from changing towels, providing new slippers and replenishing coffee & tea supplies, there was no servicing of my room over the duration of my 3-night stay.  This is all normal, so be ready for it. The biggest annoyance was that there was no air conditioning available during the period I stayed.  This is hotel policy at this time of the year, and the management clearly think that guests have no right to control the temperature, and therefore enjoy some level of comfort in their room.  Because of this, on my first night the room temperature was approximately 25°c (although I couldn’t turn the air conditioning on, the control unit displayed the actual room temperature), which when combined with the fact that the bed has an arctic standard duvet (or futon - whatever you want to call it), the temperature of the room was NOT conducive to restful sleep.  When I enquired about this the next morning, the front desk clerk bluntly said “open the window”, which of course I had tried to do during the night, but for some reason the handle to open and close the window had been removed, making it impossible to open the window.  The clerk kindly offered to go to my room and open the window (presumably using a special tool) once I had left the room for the day, which he did.  The difference in room temperature was quite noticeable when I returned that the evening, but why this policy in the first place, and the belligerence and attitude of management about guest comfort is beyond me. The other issue was the WiFi, which was patchy and unreliable on my floor.  The only way I could connect any of my devices (2 phones & 1 tablet), was to go to the lobby, connect and then return to my room.  Once a connection had been established, I was able to reconnect whenever I returned to my room, however the strength of the WiFi signal varied considerably when making calls using various apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Line and FB Messenger) and therefore the call stability was unreliable with calls frequently dropping out.  When I mentioned this to front desk staff, they offered to reset the WiFi on my floor, however it made little difference. The above matters (air conditioning and WiFi) are all things that are taken for granted these days and are expected of any reasonable hotel, so to experience the difficulties outlined indicates to me that the hotel management is not really serious about guest satisfaction or comfort. Draw what conclusions you will from this review, but from my perspective, it’s is unlikely I would stay at this hotel again when I next return to Hakodate.

Indeed quite far from the main shopping center and the Odori subway station. I would recommend to plan your day with tram to minimize the walking. Need to walk three rows to the Airport bus station near the Trinity Hotel. Room is bigger than other hotels. Breakfast is good, with a lot of variety but no cereal. Lounge service provided with snack and drinks during 3pm to 9pm, definitely a plus for this hotel.

When I entered my room it smelled a bit wet, but no mold in the room. There might be some notices at night, I don't know if it's a refrigerator, air conditioner or water pipes. No charging points near bed though. And the room might be a little bit dark at night, there are not enough lamps in my opinion. But the man at the reception provided me an additional table lamp. But they had a buffet breakfast. Among drinks I liked a ”Katsugen” (lactic acid bacteria beverage). I believe it's something local, as there are cows and pastures in Hokkaido. And on the top 10th floor, if you have luck, you will have a room with the view of a bit of mountains on the horizon.

Excellent Stay - Super Convenient Location and Services! This was our second time staying at ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo, and it was just as great as before. The airport bus stops right in front of the hotel, which makes travel super easy, and there’s also a car rental counter on the B1 floor — very convenient for road trips. The location is perfect, just a short walk from Sapporo Station and close to restaurants and convenience stores. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely stay here again!

UUsuario invitadoGreat hotel in a nice & quiet location in Sapporo. I enjoyed the hotel and its well-equipped 24 hour gym. Front desk staff were friendly to my kids and even assisted us in booking a bigger taxi to Sapporo Station as we had big luggage in tow. The hotel is well-appointed and trendy in design. The complimentary beverages which were replenished daily was a nice touch! Definitely recommended in Sapporo! We will be back!

YYi ShieanFrom the moment we arrived at Mizu no Uta, Tsuruga Resort at Lake Shikotsu, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquil luxury. Valet parking greeted us, and we were swiftly escorted to a path lined with zen music, setting the tone for a stay where every detail exudes serenity. Upon entering the reception, a majestic wooden carving of an owl, a powerful symbol of protection in Ainu culture, watched over us. In a delightful and intimate touch, we were asked to remove our shoes – a gesture that immediately made the resort feel like a sanctuary. Walking barefoot on soft wooden floors in such a refined environment felt like the ultimate indulgence. Live harp music floated through the air as we were led past a live fireplace, its warm flames inviting guests to roast marshmallows, adding a whimsical, yet homely feel to the elegant surroundings. The staff, attentive yet discreet, escorted us to our room via separate lifts, ensuring our luggage was seamlessly handled. Entering the room, we were struck by its sheer spaciousness. A half-sized fridge, thoughtfully included, perfectly stored all our chilled treats from the road trip. But the true star was the view: an uninterrupted panorama of lush greenery, stretching out to meet the serene waters of Lake Shikotsu. The combination of the stunning scenery and the luxurious in-room robe made us feel like chaebols, lounging in opulence and shielded from the cool lakeside breeze. As for the dining, the buffet at Mizu no Uta is nothing short of spectacular. Where many buffets struggle to balance quantity and quality, this resort excels at both. Highlights included a live dessert station and a live pizza-making corner, where thin-crust pizzas, surprisingly better than those from Furano’s famed Cheese Factory, were expertly prepared. The spread also featured an incredible assortment of sashimi – the freshest I encountered during my 1.5-week trip across various hotels. The salmon and mackerel, both raw and uniquely marinated in glass jars, were exceptional. The hot dishes maintained the same elevated standard. A simple tomato-based clam spaghetti was transformed by the quality of ingredients, while even the sautéed kailan was enhanced with the addition of Parma ham. Local produce, such as the fresh broccoli used in the cream-based dishes, lent an unmistakable brightness to each bite. The combination of Japanese and Western cuisine was balanced beautifully, with every plate delivering a sense of thoughtful craftsmanship. Of course, no stay at a lakeside resort would be complete without a visit to the onsen bath. While slightly smaller than the one at Lake Akan, the onsen here is far superior in cleanliness and upkeep. Conveniently, the bath is stocked with towels, so there’s no need to carry your own from the room. The experience is further enhanced by a sauna illuminated with soothing blue light, adding a layer of tranquility to the ritual. The open-air onsen is another highlight. For those who appreciate the purity of nature, the bath even features drinkable Lake Shikotsu water, renowned as one of Japan’s top 100 spring waters. This thoughtful touch, coupled with the stunning views, creates an immersive experience that is equal parts restorative and luxurious.

TV stations all in JAPANESS, there is not consideration for international guest. Shampoo is near empty and no top up and look very uncalled for as a 5 star hotel. ::))My first visit to Otaru was truly unforgettable, all thanks to my experience at this wonderful hotel! Located just a pleasant 20-minute drive from Otaru Station, the hotel is nestled in a tranquil, private area that feels like stepping into a captivating wonderland. I was delighted to discover a bus stop right across from the hotel, making it effortlessly convenient to explore the surroundings. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly by name, and they were incredibly helpful with our luggage. Taking off our shoes upon entering the hotel created a feeling of comfort and cleanliness that made us feel right at home. After a smooth check-in process, during which they confirmed our breakfast time, the staff graciously guided us through the hotel, sharing helpful information about opening hours for various amenities. Our room was beautifully adorned in traditional Japanese style, complete with an open-air bath. Enjoying this serene experience during the winter was simply magical! We also savored a delectable Kaiseki dinner in our room, which was not only a feast for our taste buds but also left us delightfully satisfied. The onsens were a real highlight, featuring an adjacent sauna. With daily alternating access for women and men every other day, we were able to enjoy both during our stay. Families will find this hotel exceptionally accommodating, thanks to its variety of playrooms and relaxation spaces catering to guests of all ages. Plus, the complimentary refreshments and bar in the lobby until 10 PM added a lovely touch to our experience. Breakfast was a true delight, with a peaceful view of the snow outside the restaurant, enhancing the serene atmosphere. On our departure day, the hotel thoughtfully arranged a shuttle bus to take us to the JR station, making our exit seamless and convenient. Looking back, our only regret is that we stayed just one night—I can't wait to return and immerse myself in a different season's beauty. This hotel is now firmly on my list for future visits, and I’m already looking forward to the next adventure!

EeyanwongI had an amazing time at this Japanese onsen resort—it’s the real deal! The authentic onsen experience was a total highlight, with private baths that had top-notch water quality, making it so easy to unwind and just soak in the calm. The Japanese-style room was gorgeous, decked out with traditional decor that really set the vibe. The food was incredible, with fresh, flavorful dishes. The staff were super friendly, always ready to help with a smile, which made the whole stay feel warm and welcoming. What blew us away was coming back from dinner to find our futon beds perfectly prepped. This place is absolutely a chill, authentic Japanese getaway!

UUsuario invitadoThe hotel has a relaxing onsen and offers a great selection of food at breakfast. Our room was spacious, and having a washing machine was a nice bonus. The hotel is about a 15–18 minute walk from Hakodate Station, which was manageable for us. One area for improvement would be the Wi-Fi — it was extremely slow and almost unusable, making it difficult to even browse basic web pages during our stay.

Special shout-out to a young lady named Miss 吳, who helped us with check-in and gave us a quick room tour. She was so observant and attentive—even without us asking. You can really feel her sense of ownership and professionalism in the way she handles her job. Soft-spoken, gentle, yet clear and firm in her role. She was so good that I felt I had to write this review for her! Other than that, the hotel impressed me in so many ways. It’s beautifully designed, with lots of thoughtful details everywhere. I really enjoyed both the software and hardware. I’d definitely come back again, and I’d happily recommend it to others. This hotel is truly a piece of art. every detail feels so well-thought-out!
