Parangtritis Beach is a beach on the coast of the Indian Ocean in Yogyakarta, approximately 27 kilometers south of the city of Yogyakarta. Parangtritis Beach is a well-known tourist attraction in Yogyakarta. The name Parangtritis has its own history. In ancient times a prince named Dipokusumo who fled from the Majapahit Kingdom came to the area to do meditation. When he saw the water droplets flowing from the rock crevice, he also named this area Parangtritis. From the words "Parang" which means "stone" and "Tumaritis" which can be interpreted as "drops of water". Parangtritis Beach has a unique view that we cannot get in other tourist attractions, namely big waves and also the presence of mountains of sand around the beach which are commonly called gumuks. This tourist attraction has been managed by the Bantul Regency Government quite well, starting from lodging facilities and markets selling souvenirs typical of Parangtritis. At Parangtritis Beach there are also ATVs (All Terrain Vechile), horse carriages, & horses that can be rented to walk along the coast from east to west. In addition, Parangtritis Beach is also a place for air sports/aeromodeling.
Good
Parangtritis is located 27 km south of Yogyakarta and easily accessible by public transportation that operate up to 17:00pm as well as private vehicles. The afternoon before sunset is the best time to visit this most popular beach in Yogyakarta. But if you arrive sooner, it will not hurt for going up to Tebing Gembirawati (Gembirawati cliffs) behind this beach. From there, we can see the whole area of Parangtritis Beach, southern sea, up to the horizon.(yogyes.com)
