Holiday Inn Express Rotherham - North

Stayed here loads before covid for work so i didn’t bother to check the reviews and what a mistake. The hotel is being used to house asylum seekers who have made this their home by using the the corridors as children's play areas (a bike race at 10pm) with screaming kids and adults arguing. With nowhere for children to play, this is clearly not the right hotel to house a family for months. Breakfast was a disaster because as soon as food comes out, the asylum seekers take everything. NOT the fault of the asylum seeks as it must be difficult raising a family in a hotel room however paying £80 to get no sleep is not fair and the hotel should not be open to the public or at least give you a choice and warn you. The staff are great here and do a good job in very difficult situations such as i heard an asylum seeker screening at the receptionist.

Our stay was terrible, the hotel is full of imigrants, children running up and down corridor and room propped open, the place is so run down, rooms were unclean, remote didnt work, some toiletries were empty, stain in bathroom and mould and marks on walls in bedroom ,lamp shades all split, noise from road.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the other reviews before arriving at the hotel, BIG mistake. At the entrance sat two men, one either side of the door. This unnerved me a little, after several minutes at the desk waiting for the very nice polite man to find my room, I realised the two men were security. The man on the desk said he couldn't find my room on the system, I'd booked a twin room. Instead he offered me an accessible room, only staying for one night I agreed to take this room. The lighting was dim and we decided to open the curtains, this meant we could turn off the lights. only we couldn't because the light switch by the bedside lamp was broken. We returned to reception and told them about the light. The nice man apologised and moved us to another room this time on the second floor. The smell of food, hit us as we got out of the lift, children were playing in the corridor and in the stair well. In the room we found a double and a sofa bed even though I had asked if it was a proper single bed and reassured it was. In the bathroom at first glance it looked okay, but when I looked in the shower their was soap scum around the plug hole from a prior customer, Yuck! Also I noticed when washing my hands at the sink the overflow was blocked with scum and who knows what. Because we had places to be, we didn't complain. We came back to the hotel around 10:30pm and it was very quiet in the main area. In the room we put on the TV which was very loud, the remote didn't work and the buttons on the TV didn't work so we turned it off again. The next morning we had a light breakfast and left. We will never book into this hotel again, I would rather pay more and stay at the Premier Inn half a mile down the road. Talking to locals they said the hotel is used as a half way house for refugees and for people who have just got out of prison.

Was woken up by phone, when not for me, also by staff entering room at 11.30 at night, they were not given informaion about it being occupied. Bit worring, the girl on desk next morning appoligised Children running around in corridoors till very late, if stayex again would like quieter area.

Hotel looks lovely and new, however stains in carpets, drawings on walls, heating coming on through the night as timer had been messed with. The hotel had just recently reopened and staff although very helpful were still getting used to the online system. Decided to have our evening meal there only one menu no children's menu although the staff told us what was available for him, and the food was lovely, couldn't have the drinks we wanted as the drinks machine hadn't been gassed however the staff were very helpful, so had a laugh about it. Beds were comfortable and clean but with the heating coming in made it very uncomfortable night, bathroom big as was the shower. Breakfast was a nigh**are, kids carrying trays full of everything saw one table with 5 full overflowing trays not a problem with that, we had some cearel and went to look at the cooked breakfast to find 2 slices if bacon and nothing else even though it had been mentioned to staff that it was running out, by the time it was cooked we'd had enough waiting around and left. We were planning another couple if visits but security guards all over the place breakfast running out not been able to have the drinks we actually wanted I don't think we'll be back. Confused about the security guards why are they needed, why did the breakfast run out ? Although the staff were lovely 3 staff to do the cooking and front of house definitely not enough

We arrived mid evening and was checked in efficiently. However, on entering the room it was like an ice box and heating didn’t appear to work. I phoned reception and Ryan said he would try to locate a portable heater. This was brought by Ryan in about 15 minutes. This warmed the room nicely. Thank you Ryan for making our stay comfortable. Breakfast was good and had a reasonable selection. There appears to be ample free parking. Would stay again.

Very poor hotel, staff are nice and friendly but that’s where the positives end. The communal area is a rubbish tip, the corridors are full of children running around unsupervised. The corridors are used as a sort of back garden or play area so don’t expect to relax in your room. Was in the room for 15 minutes before I asked for a refund. The hotel is housing migrants / refugees Once again reception staff very good and said I could have refund and leave. Great staff

Didn’t know this was a refugee hotel until we got there? I feel for these people but maybe they should state this on ***********, the stench of curry everywhere, kids running wild, men gathering round the entrance staring, was very nerving. Didn’t hardly get any sleep as people shouting wnd walking the corridors all hours. No respect for the place. If I knew this I wouldn’t have stayed and I’m very dissatisfied.

As others have commented the hotel is being used to house refugees, whilst i have the greatest sympathy for such people I do not wish to unwittingly stay in a hotel which is housing them en masse. Children running up & down the corridors & up and down in the lifts (all hours) men congregating around reception which was a little unnerving, bins overflowing in corridors, unmissable stench of stale curry everywhere. Women only seen at Breakfast & it was like a market, picking up & putting back unwrapped foods. I felt sorry for the staff, young girls having to deal with this all they could do was smile, apologise and try their best. The rooms weren't much better, electrical kettle not PAT tested since 2019, empty viagra blister packs in sugar pot, bulbs not working... Never again. I'd travelled 6 hours for a business meeting, this was my only restbite between the meeting and the return journey home. We'll be staying at the Premier Inn next time
