We ate here as a family of four on a Saturday evening. Very good traditional pub food and not too expensive. Recommend the fish n chips. Batter cooked to perfection and the curry sauce a nice touch. Daughter had a very nice looking burger and husband enjoyed his lamb shank. The kids menu went down well too. Recommend if you are in the area.

Was so excited about Another Place taking over Brackenrigg. Sadly it’s STILL pretty poor. Arrived today to a big queue and took 20mins to get a drink as everything queue at bar service. Then order food at the bar so another 12min wait. It wasnt that busy. Food was ok-ish but not a patch on other local pubs. If you’re staying at Another Place and want a pub meal, don’t let them recommend this. It’s not good enough.

Our first visit to the Brakenrigg Inn after its refurbishment by the new owners ‘Another Place’ A great improvement was instantly noticed in the decoration and colour schemes creating a friendly cosy , hotel/pub feel in keeping with the style of their other hotel. After the makeover the Inn looks so much bigger with a better use of space for guests, creating comfy seating areas as well as tables for eating . The food was very nice , fish and chips and piri piri chicken, but there were plenty of hearty plates of good pub food. The overall experience was very nice, however they were experiencing a few teething problems with service and organisation. You now have to book in advance to eat so they have a desk to check in , however, this was not manned when we arrived and we had to wait a while for someone to check our booking. We had a very nice table in the window with a great view , this was near the bar area so we were very aware of people waiting for drinks and trying to order food as you have to order at the bar. Unfortunately , they seem to only have one till to order meals and drinks so when one person is ordering the food no one can get served at the bar which seems a bit odd and causes a long wait and staff standing around unable to do anything. Also, empty glasses standing on the end of the bar and tables for a very long time isn’t a good look especially when you are trying to upgrade the experience from more than a pub. I understand there will be teething problems so we will visit again and hopefully the service /organisation will be better. These are all constructive comments to help improve the much upgraded experience of the Inn and I’m sure it will be a different experience depending on when you go there. Good Luck with everything , wishing you success with your new venture and we look forward to future visits.

Lovely weekend on Ullswater with use of Another Place facilities- the only reason to stay at Brackenrigg as rooms average and breakfast disappointing for the price. Pub meals lovely and service friendly but kitchen closes early. Rampsbeck restaurant at the hotel was amazing. Good food and service. Swimming in the lake was brilliant experience- very friendly and helpful service from the Sheep Shed lakeside cabin.

Now I've been a pretty regular guest of the Brackenrigg Inn for over 20 years. Yes, it has had its Faulty Towers moments. Its needed a little more than a lick of paint for some time and the Inn always seems to be short of another pair of hands. I stayed there for 2 nights last week following the refurbishment carried out by new owners Another Place Lakes. What a transformation! Entering the bar, immediately there is more light and more space. Its a familiar layout but a wall has been lost and now you can see right down the length of the Inn. The open fire that used to throw out huge amounts of heat in the winter has been replaced with a log burner. Top of stove fans will be needed as the log burner is set well back into the fireplace. The decor is flavoured for the outdoors. Maps and books are scattered around. There is still the best table in the house at the bay window. My old favourite room 4 is now room 102. The room layout has been positively altered as you have views of the fells and Ullswater from the bed. There is an adjacent single room across the corridor and another door leads to an excellent bathroom. The food is still very good, though disappointed that there was not a steak on the menu. There are still some things that do need attention though. Although for a cooked breakfast you can meander down to Another Place once booked, the continental breakfast I experienced was very poor. Bring cooked breakfasts back to the Inn! The walk-in trade seems to have picked up. For the first time I have seen a queue from the entrance to the bar. So seemingly the Inn still lacks (at times) those extra pair of hands. I understand the Inn can call upon reinforcements from down at the Place, but the queues kept happening. On the "niggly" side I was expecting a coffee maker of some type other than a big proud kettle and granule capsules. This room was over £200 and I had stayed in a Travelodge (£70) a few weeks before and a Nespresso machine was there for the morning. The room was on the cool side, but I was really disappointed that the towel rail in the bathroom was not turned on. Again cold towels and bathroom are not positive points for a well priced room. Overall though, the Inn has been positively transformed. All the structural & decor work is excellent. It is also very welcome to see "old" faces behind the bar and coming out of the store cupboards! I am truly looking forward to my next visit for the Macmillan Mighty Hike in June. Thank you.

Just had a fabulous Sunday dinner, after a busy day in the outdoors it what just what we needed. We arrived just as the heavens opened and received a warm welcome from the staff, even in our bedraggled state. We had two roast beef, a nut toast and a Cumberland sausage; huge portions and delicious. Highly recommend.

Stopped in after our walk and we're not disappointed. Big group of us, some serious beer drinkers and the blonde and gold ale went down a treat. Very busy as only been open two weeks, but all was under control and expectations managed. Food looked amazing. Will definitely be back.

I’m not really one to go out of my way to give a bad review but honestly, given the cost and the Another Place branding we expected so much more. On arrival we were left stood in the busy bar fully laden with bags and clothes for ten minutes whilst the staff figured out how to use the check in system. The room we had (101) looked straight out over the elevated beer garden, so the only way we could get privacy was to drop the roller blind, which defeats the point of having a window in the first place. The room was actually really nice and the bathroom was huge with a lovely deep bath, could just do with another bin by the refreshments table and frosting on the lower glass panes. We attended a wedding in Glenridding and returned to find the inn in darkness and us locked out. After contacting Another Place who advised us to walk down the pitch black road to the hotel, in heels, dark clothing, no pavement and cars flying by (which we obviously refused to do) we eventually got let in freezing cold after around 30 minutes outside. Someone had dropped the latch. On trying to check out in the morning, we found no staff around so just left the key on the bar. A really disappointing and miserable experience and not what I expected from the parent company. I hope they do iron these things out for a much better customer experience
