Our first visit to the Brakenrigg Inn after its refurbishment by the new owners ‘Another Place’ A great improvement was instantly noticed in the decoration and colour schemes creating a friendly cosy , hotel/pub feel in keeping with the style of their other hotel. After the makeover the Inn looks so much bigger with a better use of space for guests, creating comfy seating areas as well as tables for eating . The food was very nice , fish and chips and piri piri chicken, but there were plenty of hearty plates of good pub food. The overall experience was very nice, however they were experiencing a few teething problems with service and organisation. You now have to book in advance to eat so they have a desk to check in , however, this was not manned when we arrived and we had to wait a while for someone to check our booking. We had a very nice table in the window with a great view , this was near the bar area so we were very aware of people waiting for drinks and trying to order food as you have to order at the bar. Unfortunately , they seem to only have one till to order meals and drinks so when one person is ordering the food no one can get served at the bar which seems a bit odd and causes a long wait and staff standing around unable to do anything. Also, empty glasses standing on the end of the bar and tables for a very long time isn’t a good look especially when you are trying to upgrade the experience from more than a pub. I understand there will be teething problems so we will visit again and hopefully the service /organisation will be better. These are all constructive comments to help improve the much upgraded experience of the Inn and I’m sure it will be a different experience depending on when you go there. Good Luck with everything , wishing you success with your new venture and we look forward to future visits.
