Room with balcony facing Lake Maggiore.
Bathroom had a particular "smell", but again, very old buildings, well kept. Could just be the ancient drainage. A/C could be a little more efficient.

Overall the hotel was a little worn.
Our room was rather large, but very dark. It only had smaller windows, all facing the neighboring building which was only 2 mtr away, why no light reached the room. The decor was old and “tired” and our room was on top of the kitchen, which clearly could be smelled. And finally the aircon was quite noisy.

Location is great, climate was loud at night. TV remote batteries empty, too late so we did not bother. Rooms are ok in general.

This typically Italian lakeside hotel is in fact two adjoining hotels …the Belvedere and the San Gottardo. The reception staff were very helpful and gave us a friendly welcome and we were pleased to have a room with a side view of the lake. Our car was safely parked in secure hotel parking about 5 minutes walk away which was a big bonus as parking is limited in the area. Its location is the biggest advantage of this hotel with the ferry stop to Stresa and the Borromean Islands right opposite. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars are closeby too. We took breakfast which was fine although nothing special and it was pleasant to be able to sit outside. Nothing too fancy about the Belvedere - it offered good old-fashioned creature comfort at a reasonable price.

The hotel is opposite the boat dock so perfect if you want to take trips to the islands etc. Our room was spacious, with a balcony, just big enough to sit and watch the activity. The room was clean and had everything you would need, shower excellent, bed comfortable. The breakfast was fine, buffet style, you could sit on the front or inside. Unfortunately some smokers sat outside, next to eating neighbours which was a bit off putting. We received good welcome from a pleasant young man on reception but the service from Reception was very variable. My husband wasn’t well and I was almost mocked for asking about public transport to get to the Lido half a mile away, when it was v hot (we didn’t bring a car and that seemed to be the norm!) “It’s only a ten minute walk at most”, well not for us that day honey! The position of the hotel right opposite the boat dock is perfect if you want to visit the islands etc.

We spent 3 nights at the hotel and had one dinner. The location is excellent for the view of the lake. And the hotel is just in from of the public boat service to the gorgeous Isole Borromee. The hotel is very clean and well managed. The personnel is friendly and competent. The dinner was excellent. The laundry service returned our clothes in 48 hours. The total cost was very reasonable.
