Stiffkey Red Lion

I imagine it would be lovely in the summer. Decorated in a beach hut theme. No window, just a door so not good if you like to sleep with the window open. Noisy night wildlife, but that can't be blamed on anyone! Food, a little fancy for the type of accommodation. A little more pub-type home-cooked options would be good.

Wonderful Food, we ordered the Steak Cod, BLT all which tasted delicious The Pub and Rooms are child and doggy Friendly. Lovely wood fire and happy staff serving a range of Would go again for sure 5*****

We booked Stifkey Red Lion for 1 night as we were at the Thursford Chris**as Spectacular, the pub was fairly easy to find and had ample off street parking, the room was very clean and check in very straight forward. It was quiet and relaxing and the bed was very comfortable, teaa/coffee making facilities are provided as are the bathroom towels etc.The breakfast menu which included toast and cereals had a very good choice of dishes, all topped off with fruit juice and tea/coffee. We would definitely stay again.

The accommodation block looked unpromising as we approached it but the rooms were good, clean, comfortable etc and a balcony with views a real bonus on sunny days (we had rain!). The tray of coffee/tea etc had great selection including much appreciated decaf and good quality wrapped biscuits Breakfast was first class - everything spot on. Congratulations. Maybe be best to avoid Tuesday nights. We thought we were under siege soon after 6am with orange lights flashing and loud hailer sounding instructions. It proved to be a bin lorry reversing!!! Despite this, a great stay.

Booked last minute on OpenTable for Sunday lunch, used to visit regularly 5+ years ago and the Sunday dinners were great. However was disappointed on our return due to lack of value for money. The waiter was very polite and said that the roast dinner included "roast potatoes, veg, cauliflower cheese, the works" (waiter's words) so was hopeful for a decent portion. I don't mind spending £22.50 on a roast dinner but the portion was incredibly small! The food was OK, but there was hardly any of it. One small carrot, one piece of cauliflower etc. Small Yorkshire pudding. Seemed to be very little of everything. Also (as a small note) we ordered bread to share to start, however there were 3 pieces of bread. Obviously that's fine, but it makes much more sense to offer either 2 or 4 pieces as most people will order to share. Wouldn't return as there are many places charging less with the same if not better quality and reasonable portion sizes. We left feeling slightly conned to be honest, couldn't believe the price considering how small the portion was. We love going out for a treat dinner every Sunday and have tried 20 or more restaurants in North Norfolk including other upmarket places along the coast and I can't think of one charging this much for so little food.

Sunday roast - top-notch. Visited without a reservation and with a dog. Staff really welcoming .. helpfully gave us a small side room for the rather large dog - treats for him and a sharing roast chicken platter for us followed by sticky toffee pud. Portions generous and food hot and nicely presented. We left full and happy.

Enjoyable but disappointing in some areas. Great location for Peddlars Way walking, pub friendly and quaint and food was expensive but fabulous. Staff friendly. Stayed for 2 nights and hardly slept. Room definitely was not like the photo on the website. Stained cushion on the bed, sink not cleaned properly, shower door didn’t shut completely, bathroom door pops open, the blinds to the front door and window broken so affecting privacy and you could hear every step and noise from the rooms around you. Mattress was worn and so terribly uncomfortable. Breakfast was extremely tasty however on our second morning we waited 45 minutes for breakfast and toast and after 50 minutes and 4 times of asking the coffee arrived. For the cost of the room plus £15 for our dog (not quite sure why as no bowls, treats provided) we wouldn’t visit again.

Brilliant meals and service from all staff. They could not do enough for us and they accommodated our two dogs. We are on four occasions and the food was great!! The menu changes daily and the chef does specials. We joined our friends for breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed it.Nothing was too much trouble. We booked a room for Sunday and we will return.

Where we have given 4 * is only because it’s a very old building. Jack is a total star. We had a very personal private request and boy did he deliver! He deserves double pay. All staff were friendly helpful and welcoming. And don’t even get us started on the food! Limited menu yes. But we all know the phrase Jack of all trades ….. What The Red Lion serves is simply MASTERCHEF!
