24 South (Formerly Stonewall Jackson) is a lovely old hotel, stationed in a perfect spot to enjoy Staunton. When we checked in, we were informed that the breakfast area is closed due to covid, that they don’t enter rooms due to covid, the hot tub is closed due to covid, etc. but the front desk staff and other staff are 100% unmasked.
The room was tidy but bland. The lower sheet was not fitted, but a flat sheet, and it came untucked in the middle of the night, leaving us sleeping on sections of bare mattress.
Grab and go breakfast was wrapped pastries and muffins, ice cold bananas and apples, and yogurt. Very minimal effort made.
Another disappointment was the pool. We got all suited up and went down for a swim. We got there and there was a large family having a pizza party in the pool area, while their kids took over the exercise room. We tested the pool with our toes and found the temperature to be frigid. It’s an indoor, underground pool with a hot tub (forbidden to use due to covid) attached. Certainly it has the ability to be heated, but they have opted not to.
It seems like they are making very little effort to make it a pleasant experience. I understand that everywhere is short staffed now.

Hotel 24 South is a wonderful place to stay! A historic downtown hotel near several very good restaurants! The service was excellent, the room spacious, and the bed very comfortable. It is near the Woodrow Wilson library which we were there to see.

A blast from the past with lots of stately charm in the lobby and dining room. We had a pleasant spacious room without frills but with all the necessities: king-sized bed, spacious bathroom, fridge, wifi, TV. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We enjoyed the convenience of the hotel as the perfect home base for a night away. We enjoyed dinner at Zynodoa, a show at the Shakespeare Center, and shopping the next morning. Everything is walkable and food options abound.

Great location, friendly staff. Would have rated higher if not for the extremely loud music/bass thumping from 9pm-midnight. I called down to the front desk at 10pm to inquire about why it was so loud and was told there was a party in one of the ballrooms and that quiet hours would start at 11pm. We still heard the bass well past 11 despite having our sound machine turned up as high as it goes. We understand and expect “normal” hotel sounds like the comings and goings of others, but the sound of a party from our room on the 3rd floor, especially when traveling with small children, was really disappointing and exhausting.

Although we spent a quick overnight and did not have time to explore the charming downtown of Staunton, staying at Hotel 24 South made me want to come back and explore next time we are in the area. The staff was excellent and friendly!

I adore the Hotel 24 bc of its history and the contemporary touches. It is comfortable and clean and quiet. I can’t wait to return.

We found the room to be quite warm and could not open any windows. So we just turned off the heat.
Also the view from the window was a wall.
Which was OK for our purpose. Plus it kept the room from any street noise.
When we stayed last year, there was a complimentary breakfast. That was not an option this trip.
