LlymaWe had multiple issues with our 7 nights stay. Which some has been addressed and fixed immediately. One thing we do recommend to confirm check upon arrival or when booking.
Lack of view - we’ve booked the 1 bedroom premium room. From the pictures it looked like floor to ceiling big windows with open view but we were assigned to a room situated in the heritage floors (2nd) which the windows are 1.5m high so have to tippy toes to see the view. Limited sunlight also, bathroom has no window.
Issues we encountered
1) hall way light - wasn’t working on the first night when we checked in at 11pm. We couldn’t even find our room number cause it was so dark, we used the torch on our phone. Wasn’t a nice first impression if you are scared of dark hallways. The sensor was fixed the next day.
2) phone wasn’t working - so we couldn’t contact the front desk. We got in late with a toddler, so we put on ‘do not disturb’ sign but someone banged the door at 8am, to reach us to ‘fix the issues’. Not sure why can’t they just slip us a note under the door.
3) so many flies - the breakfast restaurant have serious pest issues. There were more than 10 flies flying around the buffet and the tables. We didn’t feel comfortable eating there after one visit. The whole duration of the meal, we were waiving off the fly. Major hygiene concern!
4) housekeeping was very average, barely cleaned the room daily. Only made the bed.
5) overall the staff were all friendly, special appreciation to the male staff at the breakfast room. The lady duty manager didn’t seem friendly, carries an attitude and likes to talk over you.
Location is great, round the corner from the tram line.
Will I stay again, most likely not. Feels more like a 4 star hotel, definitely not 5 star.
NNg Teck LengMuy bien situado.
UUsuario invitadoWhat a great combo...history, comfort, location. Old meets new. The generous proportions of the check-in area beautifully combined original blue stone with sleek modern glass. The wide window vista of the hotel room gave a feeling of space and openness in a place of historical 'confinement'. Arriving in the middle of a Melbourne heatwave, it was so pleasant to adjourn to the cool charm of the Olivine Wine Bar, with great service, fascinating history, interesting food choices and a well stocked bar. Funny thing to say about a jail, but I wish I could have stayed longer! Perfect for an interesting weekend away.
UUsuario invitadoI loved the Lyall!
It’s tucked away on a quiet street in a quiet area. The hotel is peaceful, clean and smelled amazing! The room felt extremely comfortable. It was spacious and gorgeously clean. The balcony was so charming. We loved having the option of taking a bath with the bath tub. Sheets were extremely crisp and comfortable too. Special shoutout to the black out curtains. Had 2 very restful nights here. Came home early from dinner just to spend more time in the room, we loved it!
Breakfast was also delicious!
UUsuario invitadoReception was ready to receive us with a smile even though it was wee hours in the morning due to a delayed flight. Room service was quick and the food delicious. Room was clean and comfortable. Rain shower was very welcomed. All in all, 10/10.
UUsuario invitadoA boutique hotel offering a delectable breakfast and a cozy wine bar at site.
Great location nearby to a famous food street, lots of restaurants and cafes around.
Highly recommend for someone who wishes to stay away from the crowded CBD yet remain closer to all the fun.
DDoctor HoIt’s a nice old skool chateau. Gives u the country western movie scene and rooms. Loved the room and the views were amazing. Water pressure and hot water (esp for winter) was great! Svcs was very Aussie and u just got to get used to them only working specific hours, so if u come late or too early be prepared for figuring it out slower. Overall still a great experience! We would come back!
