Once in a while, we have the rare privilege of staying somewhere that exemplifies all that is good about travel. Nguluko is one such place. As the photos suggest, the hotel is beautifully designed. It’s a zen-like, modern annex, connected to Liusan’s generational home. What a curious privilege it is, to be able to join her family around the home’s traditional Naxi courtyard for a bonfire dance, before retreating upstairs to a room of luxurious comforts, including an actual Dyson hairdryer and electronic toilet. But more important is what the photos cannot capture. In an age of faceless travel, dominated by flavourless hotel chains and mass-produced group tours, it’s rare to be able to feel a connection with folks eager to share a little slice of their life with you. Whether it be a morning stroll around the old village, a sharing session on Naxi culture and Dongba script, or even the aforementioned bonfire dance (replete with lived-in details like the family’s aging hams dangling off the awnings), it harkens back to a more serendipitous style of travel that made me smile. Even meals (all-inclusive!) are a chance to experience local culture. Locally foraged bracken and morels make an appearance, as do different varieties of liangfen, and Lijiang-style baba. There’s also the most moreish chicken hotpot — which I was going to drive out of the way to Luguzhen to try — but which she ended up serving for dinner on the second night. I’m quite obsessive when it comes to food, and yet everything I wanted to try here, except perhaps the rainbow trout and yak, were cooked up and served. Some small things could be improved: many stairways lack railings for the mobility impaired, and the ‘October’ room has an odd bathroom design where the toilet cubicle barely has space to close when one is seated. But such issues pale in comparison to the overall experience. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give it is that in a world filled with a million wonderful destinations, this is one place I would choose to return to.

I had a wonderful stay at Manqiwan Homestay in Lijiang. The environment is peaceful, beautiful, and very relaxing. The room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, giving a very cozy feeling throughout the stay. The location is also very convenient, making it easy to explore Lijiang Old Town while still enjoying a quiet and calm atmosphere. What impressed me the most was the warm hospitality from the host. They were very friendly, helpful, and made us feel truly welcome. Waking up to the fresh mountain air and the beautiful surroundings was such a memorable experience. If you are visiting Lijiang and looking for a charming and comfortable place to stay, I highly recommend Manqiwan Homestay. Definitely a place I would love to come back again!

Took a gamble on this relatively new homestay cos of the Yulong Mountain view and stargazing spot. Exterior's a bit misleading – looks like an abandoned road at first, but drove in and was surprised! 😄 Resident dog greeted us at the door, and a sweet couple helped with luggage and check-in. 小刘 took us on a room tour and explained everything so kindly. Place is built with attention to detail – loved the sterilised, individually packed amenities, hot water purifier, and washer/dryer in the room. Breakfast, hi-tea, and goodnight tea were all on point, plus self-heating floor, purifier, and oxygen machine 💪. 小刘 went above and beyond, even helped with fireworks purchase and setup. Really satisfied with the room and overall stay 👍

As designers ourselves, we truly appreciated the thoughtful colour schemes, lighting choices, and smart conveniences throughout the space. Features such as the fully automatic toilet, comfortable shower, and stylish humidifier added to the sense of luxury and refinement. It is this meticulous attention to detail that truly sets this accommodation apart from others. Location: Located in Yuhu Village, a charming Naxi village, the setting is both authentic and peaceful. The village atmosphere, friendly locals, and lovely coffee shops and bakeries make it a joy to explore. A particular highlight is the close-up view of Yulong Snow Mountain, which adds a breathtaking natural backdrop to the entire experience. Customer Service & Staff: The customer service was outstanding. We received thoughtful, personalised tips and guidance to make our stay in Lijiang as enjoyable as possible—far from generic recommendations, the suggestions were clearly tailored to our personal interests and needs. The staff are exceptionally warm, friendly, and generous, and they genuinely make you feel welcome. It is evident that they love what they do, and that passion translates into an atmosphere where guests truly feel valued. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort throughout our stay. We were deeply touched by the manager’s generosity and thoughtful parting gifts. Este hotel en Lijiang, al entrar, te recibe con un enorme césped justo frente a la Montaña Nevada del Dragón de Jade. Por las mañanas, sentarse en el césped para ver el sol dorado iluminar la cima de la montaña nevada es una experiencia tan hermosa que te deja sin palabras; cualquier foto que tomes parece sacada de una revista. La habitación es súper espaciosa, con un ventanal de suelo a techo que enmarca completamente la vista de la montaña nevada. Por la tarde, acurrucarse en la mecedora, bebiendo té y contemplando la montaña, es tan agradable que no querrás moverte. El diseño combina modernidad con el estilo Naxi, y por las noches, la chimenea es perfecta para calentarse. Además, es muy fácil llegar al casco antiguo de Baisha; está a solo unos minutos a pie. Puedes disfrutar del bullicio del pueblo y luego regresar a la tranquilidad del hotel. La ubicación es fantástica. Lo recomiendo de verdad. Si quieres ver la montaña nevada y relajarte en el césped, este es el lugar. ¡Definitivamente volveré!

A hidden gem in the Yunnan countryside, absolute highlight of our trip This place is a little paradise. A beautiful farm stay surrounded by lush greenery, with one of the best views of the snowy mountain we saw on our entire trip. The kind of place you didn’t know you needed until you’re there. The animals on the farm are a lovely touch, and special shoutout to Dou Mi the dog, who basically adopted us and gave us a personal tour. An absolute sweetheart. What really sets this place apart is the staff. Jason the manager speaks excellent English and went above and beyond with recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed. When we accidentally left our phone in a Didi, one of the team helped us track it down and we were so relieved and grateful. Little things like the WeChat group for communication, reminders for breakfast time, and even offering a breakfast takeaway bag for early departures show just how thoughtful and attentive everyone is. The location is perfect too, a 10-minute walk from the old town but peaceful and quiet at night. Falling asleep to the sound of the stream nearby was genuinely one of the best sleeps of the trip. The only tiny suggestion I’d make is a small welcome fruit basket or drink on arrival, something a few other local guesthouses do and it’s always a warm touch. But it’s absolutely not mandatory and didn’t affect our experience at all. We absolutely loved our stay and would 100% return.

You must communicate with the team via wechat before your trip, they will need details for you to enter the premises (within the attraction) for free. THE FREE PASS TO THE SNOW MOUNTAIN that is provided by the accommodation is NOT the same ticket to go up the snow mountain. To go up the snow mountain, you need to book your tickets at least 5 days in advance, and it is NOT included in your stay. We had a free upgrade, compliments to the team, really appreciated it. Everything was great, amenities were good, thou the shampoo made my hair dry. Water heater and pressure were good too. The activities provided by the accommodation were sufficient to keep you occupied for the entire day. There are no shops around, so pack what you need for the stay. Staff were hospitable, accommodating, friendly and approachable. Always contactable.

Super hermosa y cómoda estancia en Lijiang 🤩 Pasó 3 noches aquí y fue sorprendente 🤩 La ubicación es grande es sólo 5-7 min a pie a la antigua ciudad de Basha, sólo 10min a pie a la montaña de nieve Yulong y el valle de Tinghua 👍 La habitación era tan espaciosa con vistas increíbles, incluso tuvimos suerte en nuestra última mañana para ver el sol en oro 🌅 Las cosas son muy útiles, pueden deshacerse y recogerte alrededor de la zona (≈4km alrededor) que es super útil 👍👍 También ofrecieron 1 hora de recoger o desaparecer gratis al aeropuerto o estación de tren 🚉 Realmente nos disfrutamos del té de la tarde con un sabor de té y snacks 🤤 El desayuno también fue agradable y rico 👌 Definitivamente recomendaría que se quedara aquí 🤩🤩

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at 望山雪 Hotel. The view from our balcony was absolutely amazing — exactly as shown in the listing photos, if not even better in person. Waking up to that scenery every day was such a highlight of the trip. The room itself was very impressive as well. The features and amenities felt modern, advanced, and thoughtfully designed, making our stay extremely comfortable and convenient. What truly made this stay special, though, was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was sincere, warm, and genuinely helpful. Their hospitality made us feel so welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for both beautiful views and heartfelt service.
