Staying at Jiuhuli·Siheyuan Guesthouse (Ancient City Drum Tower Branch) 玖合里·四合院民宿（大同古城华严寺店） was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The location is absolutely unique — being inside the ancient city walls of Datong and staying in a traditional Chinese courtyard house made the entire experience feel authentic and unforgettable. It is much more than just a hotel; it is a cultural experience. The decoration and design are impeccable: elegant, refined, and beautifully done with incredible attention to detail. The rooms are extremely comfortable, with high-quality products, premium facilities, and a very peaceful atmosphere that made us feel at home immediately. What made our stay even more exceptional was the outstanding service. The staff went above and beyond in every possible way. They helped us arrange an excellent private driver at a very reasonable price, which allowed us to enjoy a perfectly smooth and efficient day visiting three major attractions outside the city: the Hanging Temple, the Yungang Grottoes, and the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. Everything was organized flawlessly, making the trip completely stress-free and enjoyable. Overall, the service was simply amazing from beginning to end. Our stay at Bo Yuan’er Platinum Courtyard Hotel in Datong was outstanding. The hotel enjoys an excellent location right in the heart of Datong’s Ancient City. Being situated in the pedestrian zone means it is wonderfully quiet at night with no traffic noise, yet it still offers the convenience of an underground parking garage for guests arriving by car. The hotel is newly built with beautiful traditional-inspired architecture, and the rooms are luxurious, spacious, and finished to a very high standard. Everything felt modern, elegant, and exceptionally well maintained. The Chinese breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious dishes. Every morning was a pleasure. What impressed us most was the genuinely warm hospitality of the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly, professional, and always happy to help with any request. They kindly offered us a late checkout, which made our travel plans much more comfortable. As a final surprise, we even received a thoughtful gift when we left—a wonderful gesture that perfectly reflected the hotel’s exceptional service. We highly recommend Bo Yuan’er Platinum Courtyard Hotel to anyone visiting Datong. It combines a perfect location, beautiful accommodations, outstanding breakfast, and truly first-class hospitality. We would gladly stay here again.

The best stay I’ve ever had in my entire life — and trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and B&Bs. ;) The rooms are gorgeous, spotless, and super comfortable, with great attention to detail — everything I could possibly need (and more!) was provided. The bathroom even had a Dyson hair dryer, a Kohler heated automatic toilet, and a Hansgrohe faucet! If you’re not familiar with these brands, just know they’re the best you can get. The location is convenient for reaching downtown Datong and various points of interest… but honestly, these technical aspects — which alone would already deserve a 10-star rating — pale in comparison to the warmth and kindness we received from the B&B owners. My friends and I truly felt at home, pampered by Ben, the guy who runs the place with such care and attention to his guests that I’ve never experienced anywhere else (not even in 5-star hotels!). He and his sister picked us up at the station — both speak excellent English (which is not something you can take for granted in China) — and they recommended amazing local restaurants, must-see attractions, and even welcomed us with a lovely gift package of local specialties. For breakfast, Ben’s mother prepared a rich and delicious traditional meal, and for our train trip she even packed homemade bread for us to take along! Datong is a charming city, and if you visit, you absolutely have to stay here!!!

La señora que preparó el desayuno también era increíblemente hábil; todavía recuerdo los fideos hechos a mano, mucho mejores que los de los restaurantes Lao Chai. Como era tan difícil conseguir reservas en Fenglinge y Longjuxiang, la recepcionista me dijo que Longjuxiang ofrecía servicio a domicilio, así que pedimos y comimos allí, ¡sin arrepentimientos!

Si llega tarde en primavera, es recomendable reservar el hotel con antelación para asegurar una plaza de aparcamiento. De hecho, el hotel está un poco lejos del casco antiguo. Aquí puede disfrutar de la comida para llevar de varios restaurantes antiguos, cenando directamente en la primera planta del hotel. Si tuviera otra oportunidad, todavía elegiría vivir en la ciudad antigua, porque es demasiado grande y tiene demasiado tráfico. This hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is! The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup. The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained. Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

Cuando me sorprendió un aguacero repentino y me empapé, pedí prestado un secador de pelo, pero el personal dijo que estaban ocupados y no tenían más. Si un hotel no tiene secadores de pelo de repuesto, su capacidad de respuesta ante emergencias es cuestionable. ¿O simplemente el personal intentaba eludir su responsabilidad? No está claro.
