I have to stay in this hotel very often due to my work. And every time when we complained to the staff they acknowledged but problems never get solves. Noises problems. Door banging, furniture dragging noises from above of the room, staff shouting, staff talking outside of the room and any kind of noises you could imagine. The wall is so thin that u could hear anything and wake up in the middle of the night bc of the noises. I swear even late night like 9pm-2am there still noises of all I mentioned above like they dont care I dont know whether this problems accrues only on the 3rd flr or what but I can tell on the 3rd flr is way too hard to get well sleeps. If its noises from hotel guest i understand it could be temporary but most of the time and for a long time like furniture dragging, banging the door(like u open a door and let it closes itself), people shouting or whatsoever probably not from hotel guest right? Only if i could record videos so i can prove how loud it is in the room i stay.

So, there are good and bad aspects to this hotel. We stayed five nights, so had a fairly in depth experience. To start with, we had booked a suite. When we booked in we were allocated a room and I kept thinking, surely this isn’t a suite. My French isn’t great, so there was a language barrier. But I even showed the reception girl my booking and she still got it wrong. After the second night, I asked again at reception and it turned out that there had been a mistake. They upgraded us from an ‘Executive’ room to a junior suite. That’s all well and good. They did refund the difference and give us a complimentary couples massage. The massage was truly excellent. There are three restaurants. A Tunisian one serving a la carte and buffet, a really good Italian and a fantastic authentic Indian. The Indian restaurant served some of the best food we’ve had. The Italian was also great. Really lovely staff too. The Tunisian one was awful. Ambivalent, couldn’t be bothered rude staff, over priced mediocre food and very busy. The outdoor pool was a godsend, and we used it every day. It’s a full sized pool and wasn’t usually too busy. Loved it, and spent a lot of time swimming and sunbathing. Really nice pool boy too. As we had a suite we had unlimited access to the VIP lounge. Nibbles and drinks on tap and again lovely staff. That was great too. Our second room ‘Junior suite’ was really big with a lovely sitting room, great bathroom and usefully, two toilets. However, there was an awful smell in there, that just wouldn’t go away. Overall, I wouldn’t go back. Considering we booked one of the best rooms in a five star hotel, attention to detail and customer service could be a lot better.

Mixed feelings: On arrival we were greeted warmly by a wonderful man (apologises as I forgot his name). Check in was effortless and I changed money at normal exchange rate (ATMs in hotel). We enjoyed a mint tea at bar (staff lovely) and took in the entrance area - which is huge with two big olive trees and piano as the central focus. •if you want to charge things to your room ensure you tell them at check in. We booked a king suite room and double checked this at checking: visually showing the booking. Yet the room given was sold as a king suite - was not! It was an executive king. It was a nice room with all the basics. Clean and comfortable. Air con good and shower works well (adjustable too your needs). Kettle; with no coffee making facilities e.g coffee. Just a little outdated and NOT the suit we booked. Two nights in we found a manger that would listen and check and was moved to a suit with apology; a refund for difference for the first two night and a couples massage was a lovely gesture. If you have a suite or executive room you gain access to VIP lounge - quiet place, good Wi-Fi and free drinks (coffee & soft drinks) and food/snacks. A nice little touch. Cleaners were fab and our room was always clean and fresh. They took their time. I do believe there was a plumping issue across hotel/Tunisa as often rooms and areas had a strong unpleasant smell. The cleaners do their best to mask this. The hotel is a little out of the way; which was fine as we wanted to relax (30-40 walk into la marsa or quick taxi ride). Taxi come quickly and stick to the price arranged. The Indian restaurant was one of the best meals I have eaten; I have visited Indian and been to many Eid celebrations. Staff were amazing; really made the visit. The Italian restaurant was equally delicious and the staff made me giggle out loud. Service was 5* - thank you. Breakfast buffet is standard set up. Lots of choice and freshly made egg or pancake choices. Very friendly staff on these counters. Pancakes were yummy. Coffee was disappointing- you can have a boiled large pre-made stuff or que for a disappointing coffee machine (only one for such a large hotel) Shop on site over price, friendly owner but I would given a miss. Cheap things over priced. I would recommend the Spa; they are currently improving the spa and gym but don’t let that put you off. My massage was well done and the lady doing so put me at ease. It was a couples massage; fully enjoyable a little bit of heaven. Thank you Pool area is large with plenty of sun lounges (need updating soon) and the most lovely pool staff: I watch how well the life guard took care of children and swimmers in pool. You can order drinks and food to your sunbed- nice touch Unfortunately: DONT bother with lunch buffets- staff seem uninterested or put out by any questions such as… can we have water with meal. Then look further put out when I asked for coffee and added additional charge on top of 75Dt per person.

I decided to write this review because I feel really grateful for all the stuff here at the hotel. People at the reception, at the breakfast, at room service and housekeeping, the manager as well, they were all super friendly and genuine to us. We were in Tunis for bussiness so we had many demands and the people here were more than happy to help us and make our stay smooth and pleasant. Regarding the rooms, they were very clean and we had everything we needed. The breakfast and the lunch was very nice too. A plus is the 2 beautiful kitties I met at the hotel!😻 Thank you Golden Carthage!!

Don’t expect a 5 star hotel. Our check in was 1 hour late, even though we got there late in the afternoon (4pm) . We were staying there only one night for a wedding, which we almost missed because of the delay. There’s construction in the building which is very loud. Sound echos in the hallways and the staff and guests speak super loud so it’s impossible to sleep. We had a late checkout at 3 but kept being bothered by cleaning staff and front desk from 1 pm. When I told the front desk about the above, they didn’t care one bit. Didn’t comp anything, didn’t apologize -Just told me I should have called and maybe better next time. I’ll never come back!

Overall, we had a great time here with our one year old baby. But largely due to visiting in low season, at the start of November, we did have mixed feelings about a number of things. Let’s start off with the good stuff: The low season room rate we got through booking with genius discount was very good. We got a very large suite at a price level where you normally get a standard room in most places. Upon arrival there was a plate of fresh fruits and also a vase with gorgeous fresh flowers. The staff really make this place shine. In almost all of the interactions, the staff went well above and beyond to meet our needs. You really feel welcome-welcome and not fake welcome if you know what I mean. We spent considerable time in the executive lounge on the sixth floor. A nice space with ample refreshments. Definitely worth booking a room that grants you access. Great sunset view from there. My wife enjoyed the massage, which was priced very fair compared to this class of hotels. On to the things that were not so pleasant, again, largely due to the low season but it would have been better if we had known some of the following up front: Only the main outside pool was open and it was not heated. This was very unfortunate for us because our baby was too small for the cold water. We explicitly booked a hotel with a swimming pool so that he could enjoy this on hot days. So not allowing him in the pool while we were taking a dive ourselves was really tough on us. Due to the low guest count, both the breakfast and dinner buffet selection was a LOT more limited than what you see in most of the high season pictures here. Apart from the massages, all of the spa facilities were closed. The location doesn’t give immediate access to the beach. Lastly, a room was being renovated above ours during week days. Most guests don’t spend time in the room during the day, but if you are like us and your kids need a nap, the melody of power drills doesn’t exactly help. So overall, this big hotel clearly caters more to business and conference visitors as there were little to no children specific facilities, but the staff works with heart and soul to make it work for families like ours.
