We were there on December 9th for a 70th birthday party. Lovely pub in a lovely village.. The event room was nice.On entering, before even paying for our drinks at the bar, we were asked to pay for our meal by a staff member ? manager, in an unfriendly or welcoming way. Once we were seated and the food came out it was in a haphazard way. As we were paying at the bar, we should have been asked what we ordered and given something to put on the table to identify what we were having , therefore the servers would not have needed to standing at the end of the tables shouting out the preferences. Same for the dessert. The main meal was disappointing, I had the salmon, which was nice, but the vegetable, a twig of broccoli was chewy, according to the guests. I don't like broccoli so didn't eat. We had a couple of nice servers , but the rest of the staff were miserable. Two of the servers were also bar staff, as this was a function extra staff should have been there to assist. Then, there was the issue of a very loud party/get together at the opposite end of the bar. Sounded more like a working mens club and they all had obviously over their limit of drinks. Also one was bouncing a rugby ball in the bar.One of them knocked into one of our group and knocked her drink over someone else. Not exactly the actions of gentlemen. We also had 6 people who were not able to come due to illness and they had to pay for the meals. As a business person I would not have charged the full amount for those meals , I do understand that the food was ordered in but this was food that could be used it was nothing special. Salmon, chicken and sausages .Another way is to ask the hostess of the party if she / or anyone else wanted these meals to take home, as they were paid for. Poor service, food that was overpriced for what is was and poor service. Luckily we all enjoyed the company.
