Altido at Vita Fountainbridge - Adults Only

Despite the staff or rather 'crew' being friendly, I have to rate our stay as poor based on our expectations gained by the presentation of this accommodation on ***********. We were expecting a hotel, with the comfort level and services of a hotel. What we got was a student dorm referred to as a hotel during the summer months when there are little or no students about. A savvy business decision, I'm sure, but a letdown for all that carry hotel expectations. Our remarks: The good: - Fairly good location, a brisk walk will bring you to the old town of Edinburgh. - Spacious ground-level area, filled with nooks and crannies to accommodate the odd student. There are big TV screens for gaming and there is an open access laundry area filled with washing machines. The ground-level area doubles as a breakfast area. - Crew is friendly The not-so-good: - No easy access to the front desk area hotel as you need a keycard to open the front entrance, which you don't have when you arrive. The doors have to be opened by someone at the front desk if there is anyone there. - Beds are too small for two adults to sleep in. (the size of a small twin at best) - The room had no air conditioning, was uncomfortably warm and did not cool down despite the window being open and using a small ventilator. So much so that being in the room felt very uncomfortable, even nauseating at times because of the temperature in the room. (outside temperature was +/- 20 C, room temperature stayed 30+ C) - The room had a distinctive smell, probably caused by previous occupants preparing or storing food in the in-room kitchenette. - Having the window open created more hindrance because of the aromas of food being cooked in the adjacent rooms. - We stayed for 3 nights, our room was not cleaned or serviced once. - Half of the channels on TV could not be watched as the frame rate of the digital stream was too low to support a good picture and sound. - Breakfast is rather interesting, it is very simple (just count on a croissant and coffee) but cutlery, napkins, and some sort of everyday structure seem to be missing which leads to confusion. Anyway, if your looking for a place to just put down your head, not too far from the sights, and are not bothered about any sort of hotel service then this is certainly a place to consider. If however, like me, you expected to be staying in a hotel, you will be very disappointed.

The room was dirty from the beginning. There was no daily cleaning at all for the whole three days of our stay and in addition we could see dirty laundry from other rooms in the corridors. The drain in the shower was blocked and the feet were dirtier after the shower than before. Breakfast was available in a selection of toasts and pain au chocolat. Coffee beans were missing completely, but that didn't bother us because the dishes were missing and there was no container for liquids anywhere in the room, even with imagination. If you would rather enjoy a stay in Edinburgh than an escape from the city, this hotel is certainly not a good choice.

No one from Altido responded to our multiple requests for assistance with a non-functioning toilet and standing water in the bathroom. The representative said they would credit our rent fee but they never did.

Thought I had reviewed aftet my stay here for the Festival in 2022. Can't find it so here goes. I really enjoyed staying here. None of the bad experiences that other reviews mention occurred to me. The staff were helpful, the room was clean, and the breakfast was fine. It's remarkable value. I heard it only lets the public in during the Festival because it's student accommodation. Lucky students.

The bathroom was filthy. The toilet cover was missing. The sink was small and dirty. The shower door was broken. The plate to pull the water was not working. In the room, despite was non-smoking, there was a stench of smoke.The shower was full of Air and black dirty. We advise you not stay in this hotel, ruined two days. Presumtuous young staff (Emma) that didn’t help us find The solution despite they know The room was like this.

Lovely hotel, great atmosphere, breakfast was fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful and very enthusiastic. We really enjoyed the gym facilities and the laundry area was a great feature. Highly recommend this hotel.

Me and my wife booked to stay at your hotel in Edinburgh Haymarket. We were very dissapointed with the service and hotel. We arrived at the hotel and got in to the main door fine using the online key button. We were emailed to say our room number was 26 and also had a code for this room. We approached the front door of 26 and pressed the unlock button on the app. This did not open door 26... I then decided to input the code which worked. When we entered the room there was lots of items and wet towels in the room and someone was clearly staying in there. We immediately left room 26 and tried the unlock button on the app again and realised this was opening door number 25. We then went in to room 25 which was clean and ready. We thought we should call the helpline and let them know what happened. They seemed very confused and also said we should leave room 25 and go to room 24 (our 3rd room change now). Room 24 was a very small room which is not what we intillay paid for. Also the room was not cleaned properly and had items from old occupiers in the fridge and the toiletries in the bathroom were not restocked. A few minutes later we bumped in to the people staying in room 26 (our room) on the corriodor and they said they were meant to stay in room 24 but when they arrived the room was not clean so they called the helpline who gave them our room instead!! We were very annoyed about this as it was a much nicer and larger room. We voiced our frustration with your helpline again who said they would look In to it and call back in 15 minutes. We waited for a call and this was actually 2 hours later. By this point we had a food reservation and left the hotel. We were offered a 25% discount on the room which we were frankly offended with. We felt a full refund was deserved due to the lack of security in the hotel (we managed to get in to 3 different rooms), the general cleanliness of our room (wasn't cleaned properly, items in fridge from old occupier, no restocked toiletries). The dissapointing small pokey room which was not meant to be ours as we were meant to be in room 26 which is much nicer and what we paid for. Also, a lady did call us later on in the evening and said they could offer a full refund but we would need to leave the hotel. This was a ridiculous ultimatum as we drove 8 hours from Somerset and would not have found another room at 8pm in the evening. We are most angry at the cleanliness issues as we are still very much in Covid times and cleanliness should be of the most importance to you and your staff. Furthermore, I asked for a manager to call me today around 11am, the lady on the phone said she would make this happen. It is now nearly 2pm and no phone call. I would like a reply to this email as soon as possible and to let us know what you propose you can do. This was a hotel for our wedding anniversary. We spent more on a hotel room than usual and feel really let down by the whole experience.

Wonderful experience at Vita. The location was great, ten minute walk from Haymarket station and 15 minutes from the centre of town. The room was large and very modern. There was a full kitchen in the room which was really useful. Bathroom was a little small but clean and modern. The bed was really comfy, and the rooms were quiet at night. Breakfast in the hotel was continental, but there was plenty to have. Communal areas in the hotel were light and airy with plenty of comfortable seating and free tea/coffee. The staff were fantastic, friendly, cheerful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Anything we needed was sorted within minutes. Highly recommended.
