Centrale Montemartini

Centrale Montemartini Museum is a space transformed by Giovanni Power Plant, which is a special example of transforming industrial historical products into museums. Since 1997, hundreds of sculptures have been transferred to the power plant space, forming a special museum space. The space created by this conservative power plant opened its first exhibition in 1997 and began to open to the public. Under the background of the old machine era of power production, the sculptures and precious works of art of the 1930s were placed in this space poetically. These two opposite worlds, the collision between classical art and industrial machinery, the conflict between softness and rigidity, and the endowment of classical sculpture. The contemporary aesthetics, let the audience produce a kind of inexpressible amalgamation.

The Central Museum of Montmartini, built in 1912, is a thermoelectric center. When you enter the museum, you can see the layout of marble statues combined with giant turbines and steam boilers. This is a place where ancient times matched industrialization. Of course, many Roman statues here are modern replicas.
