The Nags Head York

I had a lovely lunch out with my family. Great portion sizes, you definitely get your money's worth. Staff were lovely and really helpful, and there is a lovely atmosphere in the pub. We will definitely be going back there some time soon. Amazing!

First time coming to the Nags Head on a visit to York to see friends. Found the pub easily, and managed to park the car in rear carpark. Booked a single room for one night, small but adequate, fairly clean but could be better. I was woken up at 1am by other guests getting in from a night out and the walls are so thin, I can hear conversations and all doors opening and being closed. The bed is really soft and wasn't able to get much sleep on it. Room additional I'd see possible is a bin, as there isn't any where to put tea and coffee rubbish. The pub downstairs itself is friendly and a pleasant place for a drink.

Had a 3 night stay at the Nag's Head over a bank holiday weekend. Accommodation is basic, but perfectly adequate, and the staff friendly and helpful. Big 2 drawbacks were that the pub is 1 mile distant from York centre, and does not offer breakfast. As it was a bank holiday weekend, this reduced local options, so necessitated a fair walk into town each morning to get breakfast.

Room was very nice and clean and recently refurbished, staff were helpful and had no problem with my son sitting in the bar when I had a drink, on the downside there was no breakfast provided, as advertised when I booked through booking. Com. When enquired was told they had only recently taken over and hadn't been able to get a chef, so given the fact that no breakfast £99 a nignt for twin room was expensive.

I have been advised this well known Heworth pub in York has recently changed management. I happenened to walk past yesterday on the way back from seeing family. It is a pub I know well having lived and worked locally many years ago. I had my Asian Wife with me and we dropped in to use the loos and for me to enjoy my first British pint of JS Bitter in 2 years as I have been living overseas. Pub was quiet but I have to say the 2 staff on duty about 1730 or so yesterday in the front bar were totally welcoming and excellent. They are both incredibly friendly welcoming and have great customer service skills. They were presented with what looked like and sounded like from my accent no doubt an overseas tourist with an Asian Wife. They had no way to know I was York Bred and know Heworth since 1970s. So helpful so good at their jobs. Please recognise this and look after them as York is small in many ways and word of good and bad gets around quickly. Well done to the staff one young male and a more senior but still young female. Very very helpful to me with taxi and food recommendations which were welcome as I have not been back long. Thanks.
