It was absolutely amazing experience. We came from Japan & came to highland area to escape the city busyness. We are astonished about this hidden gem. As we came in we were welcomed with fantastic passion fruit juice. We came after dark & only requested simple white rice & fried vegetable but the chef and her staff made an amazing dinner with simple vegetable & rice. I realized how food prepared with heart can heal our soul. I was kept thinking if people in the world could eat this kind of food with real soul in it, could heal the whole world!! It is so amazing to be surrounded by beautiful trees &sounds of animals. I will definitely come back again. O

Amba Yaalu — A Second Home for Soulful Rejuvenation My first stay at Amba Yaalu by Thema Collection was pure discovery. I came out of curiosity—wanting to experience, for the first time, the novelty and energy of a women-led resort. I left enchanted. But this second visit felt different—more intentional, more existential. I rebooked to continue my solo quest for soulful rejuvenation, tranquility, and serenity—the kind of restorative pause that leaves you resettled for the life you love, yet must return to: a job and day-to-day that asks a great deal. From the moment I arrived, I was beautifully cared for. The à la carte dining—with both Western and Sri Lankan options—did more than simply nourish my body. It re-ignited my appetite in the most genuine way. I ate with joy and intention, and somehow it even made me feel lighter and steadier within myself. I also took a private cookery lesson with the chef, and it was unforgettable. I didn’t just leave with a chef’s hat and a printed recipe book—I left with real skills, spice knowledge, and techniques I can bring home. I can already see myself sharing this with my colleagues, my friends, and of course my beloved family. And yes—I even had to tease the chef, because I loved her food so much that this post-menopausal woman ate so well that my cholesterol and blood pressure readings came down…and I genuinely started to develop a “food baby”. 😂😂😂 Finally, to the management and leadership: as an educator in ancient history, I know great women when I meet them—Helen of Troy, Cleopatra… and beyond. At Amba Yaalu, the leadership feels like that same kind of powerful grace. It isn’t only about running a beautiful resort—it’s about building something that matters. To Amba Yaalu and everyone who made this stay feel like a true haven: thank you for giving me a serenity I could feel in my bones—and a renewed strength for what comes next.

We stayed at the Eden Grand Hotel for two days and absolutely loved it. Although it can be a little tricky to find, the hotel is beautifully located at the edge of the forest, where monkeys leap from tree to tree. The rooms are cozy and well-designed, with a spacious, comfortable bed, modern bathroom and an AC. The service was exceptional. Breakfast is freshly prepared just for you, and the food was fantastic. The hotel also offers its own tuktuk driver, making it easy to visit nearby attractions like Sigiriya Rock. All in all, the Eden Grand Hotel is a charming and peaceful retreat and the Service will try its best to make your stay memorable.

Just a short walk from the bus stop, this gem of a guesthouse is hands down the best place to stay in Sri Lanka. The owner goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome, always offering help and thoughtful advice. He even arranged for a local tuk-tuk driver at a very reasonable price, ensuring I had the best experience exploring the area. Every afternoon, he would check in and offer a delightful cup of tea, making the stay feel extra special. His wife’s cooking is an absolute highlight—breakfast was not just delicious but prepared with so much care, adding a homely touch to every meal. The room itself was super clean, big, and incredibly comfortable. From start to finish, they both made me feel completely at home. I can say this was the best accommodation I experienced during my time in Sri Lanka, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a truly memorable and comfortable stay.

¡Una estancia nocturna muy especial y sumamente cómoda! La habitación estaba impecable y las comodidades perfectamente dispuestas. Cuando supo que iba a salir a buscar un restaurante para cenar, Isuru, preocupado por mi seguridad esa noche, se ofreció a llevarme en su tuk-tuk. Me estaba esperando en el restaurante media hora antes de que terminara la cena. (Su recomendación, Mom's Kitchen, fue el mejor restaurante local en el que comí durante mis más de diez días en Sri Lanka. ¡Los precios también eran muy razonables!). Isuru está verdaderamente dedicado a la gestión de esta posada, y también contamos con la ayuda de un huésped muy amable, el Sr. Arland.

Elephas Resort was chosen because of its serenity and space, a mid way break during our trip, we wanted some quiet space to chill and we did by the pool, alomg the paddy fields, in our rooms and walking around the lake our room faced. we rode a TukTuk and the lake view room we had was spacious and definitely worth journey in to the resort, clean and bright, toilets are well equipped and staff are friendly and welcoming, giving us advise on where to go eat and what to see around Sigiriya. it's a very quiet resort and i would recommend room 223, upper level, it's a special place for our 2 nights there and we already miss the beautiful, quiet settings Elephas delivered.

The hotel is in a quiet spot surrounded by nature, and we had a really relaxing time listening to the birds. We stayed in a room with its own pool and loved just enjoying the hotel itself. Breakfast came with an amazing view, and the Sri Lankan-style dishes were delicious. The staff were so attentive, always smiling, and made us feel truly welcome. We’d definitely like to come back. Just note that it’s a bit away from Sigiriya Rock and the town center, so you’ll need a taxi or tuk-tuk to get around.

Este es un buen hotel con una excelente ubicación para visitar los principales lugares de interés de la zona que queríamos explorar (a poca distancia a pie de Sigiriya y las rocas de Pidurangala, y a un corto trayecto en tuk-tuk de un paseo nocturno para ver loris). Está en una calle principal, por lo que hay algo de ruido si te alojas en la parte delantera del hotel, como nos pasó a nosotros, especialmente por la música alta que suena temprano por la mañana. Recomiendo pedir una habitación lo más alejada posible de la calle. La habitación era más básica de lo que esperaba por el precio, pero lo importante es que era grande y limpia. Creo que se paga el precio de un hotel decente en esta ubicación. La piscina del hotel es grande y muy limpia, perfecta para refrescarse, y muy pintoresca, rodeada de hermosos árboles. Nos decepcionó un poco el menú del restaurante del hotel, que casi no tiene opciones vegetarianas, y el desayuno buffet tampoco nos pareció que valiera la pena, pero hay muchos otros restaurantes a poca distancia del hotel. El personal fue muy atento, especialmente al ponernos en contacto con el tour nocturno de loris.

Abbiamo pernottato qui due notti per poter godere delle due attrazioni principali della zona. I ragazzi sono molto disponibili ed il responsabile è un giovane simpatico che ci sa fare! La posizione è molto tranquilla anche se non molto lontano dai locali. Camera buona e anche la colazione servita all'ultimo sulla terrazza che guarda sulla rocca. Di notte la strada sterrata è completamente buia e vi sconsiglio di andarci a piedi meglio se con una macchina o un tuktuk.

Aunque nuestra estancia fue corta, fue bastante agradable gracias a la amabilidad del personal, especialmente del Sr. Ruchira, que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos desde el primer momento. El alojamiento estaba limpio y cómodo y la ubicación era excelente. Quedamos impresionados con el cuidado y la atención al detalle, haciendo que la experiencia sea muy positiva. ¡Definitivamente regresaremos!
