Kanamean Nishitomiya Ryokan

Pasamos una noche aquí y de principio a fin el personal fue muy amable y acogedor. La habitación era acogedora y tal como en las fotos. La bañera grande fue definitivamente lo más destacado, incluso nos la llenaron cuando llegamos. La cama que nos hicieron era cómoda, aunque me pregunto si las almohadas más suaves son una opción (no pregunté). Las comidas que tomamos llevaron nuestra estancia a otro nivel. Ver a los chefs preparar la cena fue increíble y, como el restaurante solo tenía pocos asientos, el servicio fue muy especial y personal. El personal hizo un buen trabajo explicándonos los platos en inglés y sugiriendo combinaciones de bebidas. Fue una de las mejores comidas que he tenido. El desayuno también estuvo delicioso. Si bien había otros huéspedes alojados en el hotel, apenas los notamos debido a lo tranquila que era la habitación y lo atento que fue el personal. Recomiendo encarecidamente la opción de media pensión al menos por una noche, valió la pena el precio. La ubicación del hotel también era excelente para explorar y estaba a pocos pasos del mercado de Nishiki.

La calificación representa un promedio de las experiencias de las habitaciones (5 estrellas) y del servicio al cliente (0 estrellas). Todo en la vida es relativo, ¿verdad? Así que ten en cuenta que gastamos $700/noche. Las extremadamente caras habitaciones tradicionales japonesas son exquisitas, pero 1) el servicio en los restaurantes exclusivos tiene prioridad sobre el servicio a los huéspedes del hotel, lo que significa que literalmente no hay asistencia para los huéspedes durante las horas de cena; 2) y cuando el servicio al huésped está disponible, se brinda en un inglés muy deficiente y entrecortado, lo que genera malentendidos y frustración. De hecho, sentimos que teníamos que evitar al personal y luchar para encontrar nuestras propias soluciones, tal era la frustración y la preocupación por sentirnos demasiado agresivos o intrusivos. Aunque no fue nada fácil, sí fue más fácil buscar en Google una salida a los problemas o preguntar a la gente por la calle. Hubo varias ocasiones en las que tuvimos que entrar a la cocina para encontrar a alguien disponible para ayudar y otras en las que marcamos el 8 en el teléfono y lo dejamos sonar interminablemente. Funcionó una vez. A primera hora de la mañana no hay nadie. El propietario actúa como si estuviera acelerado, haciendo apariciones extrañas de 2 segundos y, en el siguiente ejemplo, puede tomar decisiones realmente malas. Originalmente reservamos una habitación para 5 noches durante la temporada de Sakura junto con nuestros amigos. Nuestros amigos cancelaron su reserva, por lo que el propietario asumió que estaba bien cancelar la nuestra también. Cuando le dijimos que no cancelábamos, nos regañó diciendo que era temporada de Sakura y que estaba muy ocupado y que debía reconfirmar mi reserva con una tarjeta de crédito (¡por correo electrónico!). Esto también coincidió con una avalancha turística hacia Japón que se produjo justo después de que Japón fuera reabierto al turismo en general. Todo esto sucedió alrededor de Navidad, así que como no estaba tan atento a mis correos electrónicos y dudaba en enviar información de la tarjeta de crédito por correo electrónico no cifrado, ¡perdimos nuestra reserva nuevamente! Cuando todo se calmó, no pudo acomodarnos durante el tiempo que originalmente planeábamos quedarnos. Ahora estamos en Tokio, en el hotel Okura... y AHORA sé de qué se trata el excelente servicio al cliente al estilo japonés.

An extraordinary and memorable experience! We had the Kashiwagi room, which was basically a one-bedroom apartment. It had a spacious and elegant sitting room (with a tokonoma alcove!) that was converted into a bedroom at night, a small office with a desk, a sitting room with an armchair, a small toilet room, and a large bathroom—literally just for bathing—with a huge onsen tub made of hinoki wood. This tub was filled with hot water when we arrived, and the staff explained that the hinoki had insulating properties that would keep it warm for a long time. An added bonus was that the wonderful fragrance of the wood permeated the area like incense! Just make sure not to use any soap in the onsen, we were told, because it could damage the wood—there was a separate shower area next to the tub for washing off, and the onsen was just for soaking. There were also lovely yet private views of little courtyard gardens from several of the different rooms. I loved that the TV was hidden away in a cabinet, totally unintrusive, yet available if, for some reason, you really need to watch TV in a space like this. I see some previous reviewers complain about "camping on the floor." In keeping with the old-fashioned Japanese aesthetic of the place, the sleeping arrangements consist of futons on the floor, and there is also a low sitting table with a choice of a low chair or a floor-height chair. If you have mobility issues or don't feel comfortable with Japanese-style furniture, maybe choose a more Western-style hotel! But if you want to experience a more traditional Japanese-style living and sleeping space, pretend you're in an Ozu movie and enjoy it. ;) We also had a wonderful kaiseki meal in a private dining room. The owner appears to be quite a wine connoisseur, and had an amazing cellar, which contributed to fabulous pairings! Lots of books on art, architecture, and haute cuisine, both in the room and the public areas, contributed to the overall ambiance of sophistication and elegants.

What a fabulous stay at this hidden gem ryokan in Kyoto. The room size was surprising large, with separate areas for living, dressing and relaxing. The tatami mats and futons provided for the authentic ryokan sleeping experience were comfortable. Products in the room for washing were all top of the line. Service was exceptional; always someone available to help. I am saving the best for last; the food at this ryokan was beautifully prepared and presented. We had both the Kaiseki and Kaname dinners and each was a wonderful dining experience accompanied by excellent wines. As long as you arrive expecting a ryokan experience rather than a more typical hotel experience, you will not be disappointed. This was a 5 star experience for us.

This was one of the dissapointing experiences we have ever had. The basic charge for one night us around £500 and for that princely sum you get to camp on the floor! The reception have a very poor grasp of any other language but japonese and the place was very much ‘fawlty towers’. We had booked for 4 nights but thankfully only stayed for one under the guise of construction work going on next door which frankly was an easier get out clause. We then booked a lovely room in the Hotel Resol for the other 3 nights. How anyone can say this is Relais Chataeux standard is baffling to us and we hope no one else is foolish enough to waste their money.

Traveled with 3 other friends, one vegan. Wanted a some what traditional ryokan with modern comforts. This was the only Vegan friendly Ryokan we could find and it exceeded our expectations. The staff was attentive, the rooms were comfortable, the in room bath was incredible and the food was the best part our our two week japan trip. Cant recommend this place enough.
