CASTLE Kanaloa at Kona

This is the real Hawaii, quiet and peaceful. No crowds and no “BUZZ” just yourself and the beautiful island and ocean. Come here to relax, turn off the WiFi, (they have it but you don’t need it or want it) Just one minor negative, all unit have steps, some have a lot of steps.

Beds are hard as rocks. We booked a 2 bed with sofa sleeper and there was no sofa sleeper. We found an air mattress in the closet. We booked a condo for the kitchen however all utensils were very run down. The “sharp” knives are duller than a butter knife. Beautiful location, quiet but no real community feel. It needs some updating and care and could truly be a great place.

While the condo size, view and location are wonderful the condo itself needs some maintenance. Several areas in both bathrooms have dry rot and need to be repaired. All appliances were functional except ice maker in the refrigerator. While the kitchen was well stocked overall there were only two pots, one very small and one extra large. The staff at the complex were very friendly, attentive and competent. The cable box in the bedroom was not functioning when we arrived, I contacted the front desk and maintenance came by very shortly and determined that box was bad. They contacted local cable company and a service tech came and replaced the box within a couple of hours. I can’t even get kind of service back home! I would definitely stay at this complex again but probably not this unit.

Property overall was decent, well taken care of. Employees were great, no issues. Had a clogged shower and it was fixed same day reported. Cleaning fee is way too much, double what it should be, and the fact you have to pay extra for air conditioning is ridiculous because it is pretty much mandatory. Unit had stained carpet on entry stairs, so started off with a very bad impression and every time you entered or exited the unit. It was just gross, especially since they ask you to remove your shoes, which did not happen. Unit has not been updated since build, so could definitely use some work in areas. Not very well equipped as far as kitchen items and utensils. We didn’t cook so wasn’t much of an issue but could be for those who want to prepare their own meals. Overall, the spaces were clean but some areas had a lot of accumulated dust and visible on walls and areas not routinely cleaned. I would expect it to be immaculate for $400, not just a quick in and out. It was okay for a first time trip to the Big Island staying on a budget, but probably wouldn’t stay here again unless it was in a more updated unit.

If you just want to get away from the busy and noisy city life this is the place to go. Nothing better than to wake up and sit on the lanai listening to the ocean. Very well maintained and quiet. Close to many beaches and kona. I have been visiting here for 20 years and will continue to for many more. The Kanaloa is the only place that I stay at.

It seems the condos on this property are individually owned, thus the quality can range. Our first place was not well-maintained, but management moved us to a better place upon request. The location is amazing as everything is close by so you feel like you’re not outside of town, but also not in town. We will definitely stay here again as we have stayed here many times and assume that the area is the recovering from the 2020 pandemic effects.

It was quiet ,well kept grounds easy to get to other places . I liked the ocean swimming pool..the near golf course location ,friendly staff. I didnt like the noisy bed ,the dead cockroaches ( though better than live ones) lol ....but overall it was an awesome stay for us
