«The Baoju hotel is located near the middle of town within a short driving distance to the Kumtag desert facilities. The staff were very friendly. Although they could not speak English, they made every good effort to meet all of our needs. The hotel is located in a strip of small businesses and restaurants. It even is directly attached to a convenience store so you don’t need to leave the building for those small necessities. Our stay was pleasant and restful.»

«The hotel was very clean and the interior is very modern. The hotel is located close to the desert. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They helped me with planning my day, and when I got back from the desert, they allowed me to take a shower in one of the available rooms even though I had already checked out. This was really helpful, because I was getting on a sleeper train that night. Amazing service. I would definitely stay here again.»

«Shanshan is a small town and if you do come here, it would be to visit the Kumtaq desert. The desert is 15-20 minutes from the hotel, so is the Shanshanbei railway station. I recommend this hotel because of the service of the front desk staff, Ms Xiaoba who goes above and beyond to help. She was responsive on wechat and organised a car to pick us up, she willingly booked a taxi for as we couldn’t find the address to the night market on our DIDI app., she provided extra water and answered any questions with a smile. This is a new hotel so looks clean and fresh with a smart toilet. They even have tents/ tepees so if you have a kid, this is a welcome. I saw a room with spiderman and Barbie princess theme too. The breakfast has many Chinese options and they are well cooked and delicious. They do have a coffee machine. I’d stay here again if I were to revisit. Kumtaq Desert is worth a visit and the second golf cart/sightseeing mini bus drives you right to the end and brings you back to the second station. The other deserts we visited didn’t have this.
