When I started planning our itinerary for our 15 day Yunnan holiday, I plotted out our path to go all the way up to Shangri-la, back down to Kunming and then to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land. Then I chanced upon a video of Aini Garden and fell in love! The only reason we came to Pu'er was to get to Aini. This was the first place I booked, and I really took a chance because it has a no cancellation policy and I really had to stick to the date once it was made. The initial pre-arrival experience was less than pleasant. I didn't know how we were going to get to the manor and my WeChat messages went unanswered. The hotel we stayed at in Pu'er finally got in touch with someone and got them to message me. I asked how we could get there and the answer was a curt ”take a taxi or charter a car”. No pleasantries of ”we look forward to seeing you” or offering to arrange a car. When we arrived, no one was at reception and no one came out. Our driver was so perplexed he wondered if we were in the right place and if the place was open. Finally a young girl came out and registered us in. There was an air of aloofness from everyone else. However, once we were checked in, things warmed up quickly. We were offered coffee and freshly cut papaya and had a nice introduction chat with the lady staff. The bedroom and bathroom is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We would have enjoyed sitting on the balcony if the chairs were more comfortable. I love the floor to ceiling glass windows but the panel above the door should also be glass (it is just netting) so traffic sounds from the road actually comes through at night. I actually wanted to book the cottage in the hills but opted for the standard room in the main house because I was worried it would be cold. Big regret as it is actually magnificently located with stunning views. However take note that you will need to call for a buggy ride or make a 1km hike every time you want to eat or get to the main house. If you are self driving, no issues as you can park right next to the cottage. Anyway it's a small price to pay for an unlimited view of the milky way and seclusion. This is as close to a Ryokan experience as you can get in China, minus the hot springs. 3 days 2 nights of blissful, carefree living is not quite enough. They make sure they feed you well, with the freshest produce available for hotpot dinner and home-cooked Yunnanese dishes for lunch. There are so many activities organised, from taking you up the mountain for a glimpse of sunrise (with mountain goats for company ❤️) to coffee plantation education tour to horseback riding along the mountain ridges (the view is spectacular!) to scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits to drinking, dancing and singing around the campfire! So much to do, so little time! One area of improvement I personally would like to see is the coffee serving. They tend to be quite snobbish about how their coffee is taken. Neat, with nothing else. Asking for sugar or milk feels nearly scorned upon. Coffee is a versatile drink and can be savoured in a huge variety of ways. How else is Starbucks so successful? I felt kind of stifled and deprived because I love a good latte and had looked forward to enjoying an unlimited indulgence of coffee throughout our stay. Anyhow, I love the ecotourism efforts here. It feels natural and unpretentious. I love the people and the camaraderie they cultivate. I especially enjoyed talking to their consultant 敬梅, a beautiful lady with extensive knowledge in Yunnan culture and ecological progress. Also thank you to 徐芳 for arranging transport back to town and giving helpful recommendations. We hope to return again.

Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse, Dali | A poetic stay in a century-old Bai courtyard We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse. Oriental aesthetics in every corner The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere. The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined. Comfort with thoughtful details Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay. Warm and attentive service From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day. A peaceful location near the old town The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature. More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. Recientemente visité Kunming y me alojé en el Hotel Haili Binya Wanda Hot Spring. ¡La experiencia fue fantástica! El hotel es fácilmente accesible, justo en la intersección de la avenida Guannan y la calle Guangfu, junto al lago Dianchi y con impresionantes vistas. Además, está convenientemente ubicado cerca de atracciones como el Parque de los Humedales y la Aldea Étnica de Yunnan. La arquitectura del hotel desprende un fuerte encanto del sudeste asiático. Nada más entrar, te sientes como si estuvieras de vacaciones en Tailandia. La vegetación tropical y la exquisita decoración crean un ambiente relajante y acogedor. ¡Las aguas termales y el spa del hotel son realmente un punto culminante! La piscina cubierta climatizada con atrio, de 1130 metros cuadrados, cuenta con aguas cristalinas, ideales para un refrescante baño. También hay una zona de juegos infantiles donde los niños no querrán irse. En el exterior, hay 18 piscinas termales, cada una con un hermoso diseño y privacidad. El baño de vapor de sal también merece una visita; te deja con una sensación de relajación total. También disfruté de un masaje de aromaterapia herbal. La técnica experta del masajista y su suave presión fueron perfectas, dejándome completamente renovado. Las opciones gastronómicas también son excelentes. El restaurante de mariscos Xilehui y el restaurante Yiduo Yuntai ofrecen un menú rico y variado, con cocina de Yunnan, Sichuan, cantonesa y tailandesa, para todos los gustos. Cada plato se prepara con ingredientes frescos y es increíblemente delicioso. El servicio es excepcionalmente atento, desde el personal de recepción al momento del check-in hasta el personal de las aguas termales. Todos son muy amables y atentos, y cualquier solicitud es atendida con prontitud. ¡Esta estancia fue realmente maravillosa y sin duda volveré a alojarme aquí cuando esté en Kunming!

Un hotel muy bonito y con muchas posibilidades, gestionado y mantenido de una forma lamentable… Las villas son amplias, el exterior invita a disfrutar de la estancia en la terraza, el interior inicialmente estaría bien cuando lo construyeron pero han dejado que una villa de lujo haya pasado a ser algo vulgar… el mantenimiento es terrible, se nota que hace mucho tiempo que no se preocupan por mantener el hotel adecuadamente, equipamiento obsoleto, mobiliario bueno pero viejo, calefacción de suelo radiante que no funciona, aire acondicionado que calienta poco y pese a no haber pasado frio era totalmente insuficiente… Intenté pedir al servicio de habitaciones y no me atendieron, tuve que ir personalmente al bar a recoger la bebida que había pedido. La piscina cerrada, totalmente inadmisible para un hotel que tiene en su nombre los apellidos Spa y Resort… El desayuno de los más básicos que he visto en un hotel de esta categoría y por el precio que se paga es totalmente inadmisible… Repetitivo, si variedad en absolutamente nada y con un servicio que no está a la altura de la categoría que dicen tener. En resumen, no volvería y no lo recomiendo en absoluto. SI no cambian su planteamiento como cadena hotelera pienso que es cuestión de tiempo que acaben cerrando… Un lastima que tengan tan mala gestión porque el hotel y sobre todo la ciudad de Lijiang tienen muchísimo potencial.

Volví a Dali y elegí el B&B recomendado por Ctrip. Excepto por la dificultad en el último kilómetro del camino hacia el B&B, todo lo demás fue genial. La habitación es relativamente grande y limpia. Incluso tiene un dispositivo de manta eléctrica, lo cual es una medida considerada y considerada. La preparación del desayuno también demuestra un gran cuidado. Hay una chica de servicio en el B&B que tiene muy buena actitud y responde a todas las solicitudes. Hay una terraza en la azotea con vistas al lago Erhai, y el amanecer de la mañana es aún más sorprendente. También hay un restaurante Yunhetai cerca, lo cual también es una sorpresa. Honestly, I rarely post reviews—but this time I really felt like I had to, because this hotel was the highlight of my family trip to Yunnan. From the moment we entered the hotel gate, we were already amazed. The place is even more beautiful in real life than in the photos. The staff member who communicated with us via WeChat was incredibly helpful—from arranging our transfer from the station to the hotel, to accommodating my dietary restrictions as a Muslim. They kindly prepared a special breakfast for us: rice noodles with egg, along with sweet potatoes, corn, and boiled eggs. What made it even more special was that everything was cooked by a very warm grandmother. Despite the language barrier, we could truly feel the warmth and love in her cooking. The cabin we booked was absolutely perfect. It had a spacious yard, a hot tub, and a terrace with a table and chairs—great for dining or simply spending time together with family. Stepping inside the cabin was even more impressive: a large bed, lots of natural light, and equipped with smart home devices. One important detail for us was the bathroom—it had a bidet and a fully smart toilet with remote control. Since the temperature in Lijiang varies greatly between day and night, we were very grateful that the cabin had both floor heating and room heating. The bedroom also featured a large projector, and above it, a sunroof that can be opened—perfect for stargazing at night. It truly exceeded all our expectations. The hotel area is also next to a very aesthetic café with a stunning view called Yuntian Cafe. For those traveling with family, this place is perfect—the area is spacious and great for kids to explore nature. If you want to go out for meals, Baisha Ancient Town is just a few kilometers away. What I will remember the most is the kindness of the staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly, always doing their best to accommodate every request. Please never change—your hospitality feels just like being with family. Next time we visit Lijiang, we will definitely stay here again without hesitation.

Esta casa de huéspedes fue perfecta para nosotros, los urbanitas que buscábamos relajarnos. Nos alojamos tres días, una maravillosa oportunidad para desconectar. El dueño fue increíblemente astuto, ofreciéndonos una serie de servicios muy prácticos: una estrategia calculada y precisa para ”encontrarnos” a la perfección. Al registrarnos, el personal nos invitó a tomar té y charlar, transformándonos al instante de ”urbanitas” en personas ”normales”. Luego, disfrutamos de un té de la tarde de cortesía, ideal para las redes sociales. Por la noche, una sopa dulce para ayudarnos a conciliar el sueño y un taller práctico de preparación de té: una experiencia verdaderamente enriquecedora. Un agradecimiento especial a Xiao Wu, Xiao Xiong y a todo el personal. Se notaba su sentido de pertenencia y compromiso con el lugar. Siempre estaban dispuestos a ayudarnos en lo que necesitáramos. Xiao Wu preparó un té maravillosamente aromático y nos ofreció recomendaciones útiles desde nuestra perspectiva. Xiao Xiong nos recomendó varios restaurantes que no solo eran lugares de moda, sino que además eran increíblemente deliciosos; comimos hasta quedar completamente satisfechos. ¡Con un personal así, el dueño debe estar encantado! ¡Espero tener la oportunidad de volver a Lijiang y relajarme de nuevo en Baiyue!

Fui a esquiar a Shangri-La y me alojé en este hotel con una moto de nieve. Fue muy cómodo. Después de esquiar, podrás sumergirte en las aguas termales de forma gratuita para aliviar la fatiga. Our stay in this luxury bedroom suite was a memorable experience, largely due to the exceptional accommodations. The suite itself was nothing short of spectacular—incredibly spacious and warmly appointed. The layout was impeccably designed, featuring a foyer, a living area, a comfortable bedroom, and a walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom was a highlight, with a separate water closet, a vanity area with a deep-soaking bathtub, and a separate, spacious double shower room. The private outdoor sitting area that led to a huge, rejuvenating hot spring was the crown jewel of the suite. It's important to note the location within the Dong Feng Yun Scenic Area. A significant benefit is that the hotel provides the scenic area entrance ticket and transport to and from the gate, which is excellent. However, its setting means it is quite far from Jianshui's Old Town and other key locations. This can be inconvenient when you wish to visit other spots or find dining options outside the hotel. A major logistical issue we encountered was with return trips. When trying to get back to the hotel, most taxi drivers requested a top-up payment, as they would have to return to the city center without a passenger. Service at the hotel was generally good; the staff were prompt and attentive upon our arrival and throughout our stay. However, we noted a noticeable drop in attentiveness during the checkout process. A minor point to note is the centralized A/C system, which meant we couldn't control the room temperature individually. That said, the provision of a standing fan was a thoughtful and effective solution. The food at the hotel's restaurant was acceptable, though it didn't quite match the exceptional standard of the suite itself. Overall, this is a truly magnificent property for the space and privacy it offers, but its remote location requires careful planning and extra budget for transportation.

Este hotel en Lijiang, al entrar, te recibe con un enorme césped justo frente a la Montaña Nevada del Dragón de Jade. Por las mañanas, sentarse en el césped para ver el sol dorado iluminar la cima de la montaña nevada es una experiencia tan hermosa que te deja sin palabras; cualquier foto que tomes parece sacada de una revista. La habitación es súper espaciosa, con un ventanal de suelo a techo que enmarca completamente la vista de la montaña nevada. Por la tarde, acurrucarse en la mecedora, bebiendo té y contemplando la montaña, es tan agradable que no querrás moverte. El diseño combina modernidad con el estilo Naxi, y por las noches, la chimenea es perfecta para calentarse. Además, es muy fácil llegar al casco antiguo de Baisha; está a solo unos minutos a pie. Puedes disfrutar del bullicio del pueblo y luego regresar a la tranquilidad del hotel. La ubicación es fantástica. Lo recomiendo de verdad.
