I stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children during a two-night trip to Karuizawa in early February. The hotel is around 100 years old and its claim to fame is that John Lennon has stayed there. The piano that he played on is still in the bar. Location: The hotel is near Old Ginza Street and around a 15-minutes drive from Karuizawa station. It was not difficult to find, but you must navigate a narrow approach to the hotel which is icy at this time of the year, so you must drive carefully. Cleaniness: The staff told me that the hotel was only recently and everything was very clean and in good condition. Service: The receptionist that conducted the check-in was probably the Japanese that spoke the best English that I had encountered on this trip. He spent a lot of time explaining the hotel to our family. The porter was also very helpful and polite. When we asked for extra toothbrushes and slippers for the children, housekeeping was very prompt in delivering them and even brought some children's robes for my sons. Facilities: The hotel did not have many facilities. There is a small shop, a bar and a french restaurant but not much else. Some rooms had private hot springs in them and they gave us the opportunity to upgrade. Our room, had a small balcony even though we were on the ground floor. It looked onto a wooded area so there was not much to see, especially at night. However, when it snowed the next morning, my kids loved going out and playing in the snow. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast. It was a simple American breakfast very well presented. It was very pleasurable to look out into the inner courtyard with it was snowing. Overall: I like this hotel as it has a lot of character. It is architecturally attractive and has kept a lot of its charm despite renovation. The staff are very professional and polite. I would stay in this hotel again.

El hotel se ha visto muy bien en la ciudad de Kusatsu, pero el servicio de oficina principal es eficiente, pero es un cursor en comparación con la hospitalidad que nos encontramos en la estancia de ryokan. Estuve muy satisfecho con este hotel. La ubicación era excelente, el personal amable y las habitaciones cómodas. La habitación era muy cómoda en cuanto a iluminación, temperatura y ropa de cama. Un elogio especial para el personal de limpieza por mantener la habitación impecablemente limpia. La habitación tenía dos balcones, uno de los cuales ofrecía vistas a la estación de esquí Happo-one. Me alojé seis noches. El desayuno era generalmente el mismo todos los días, pero aun así abundante. Cené en diferentes restaurantes tres noches: la primera noche, una cena buffet en el hotel, con una amplia variedad de comida; la segunda noche, comida occidental en The Forest, junto al hotel; y la tercera noche, comida japonesa en The Forest, junto al hotel. Los tres restaurantes tenían precios razonables y estaban deliciosos. La sala de secado para el equipo de esquí estaba ubicada fuera del hotel. Era una auténtica sala de secado con secador de botas de esquí, a diferencia de algunos hoteles que se autodenominan sala de secado pero en realidad son solo taquillas.

Had a really pleasant stay overall. The place was very clean and well-maintained, and the location was convenient for getting around. Service was excellent 👍 staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Amenities were also complete and comfortable. Would definitely recommend for couples looking for a smooth and enjoyable stay.

The staff tried their best but their English proficiency was a problem. Having to catch shuttle buses to the ski fields every day was frustrating - they were usually very crowded and infrequent (even though we travelled there out of peak season). The hotel was out of the ski boot size that one of our group needed. There was very limited (hardly any) vegetarian food available even though we had requested it before departure (some of our group were vegetarians). There were no English speaking television stations. The hotel was beautifully presented with great housecleaning and the onsen was much appreciated.

I stayed at Hotel Marroad Karuizawa, which is about a 12-minute walk from Karuizawa Station. The surrounding area is very quiet and peaceful. The lobby has a charming retro Showa-era vibe, and the hotel is a two-story building. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very quiet. The Japanese-style futon mattress was thick and extremely comfortable, while the Western-style bed had a good balance of softness and firmness. The room amenities were well provided, and the hotel staff were very friendly. There is also a shuttle service to the ski resort and the station, which was very convenient. Although the hotel is a bit far from Ginza Street and nearby convenience stores, taking a taxi only takes about five minutes, so getting around was still quite easy. That said, there are a few minor drawbacks: 1️⃣ There is no elevator, escalator, or ramp from the entrance to the front desk, which makes carrying luggage inconvenient. Many guests have mentioned this issue. 2️⃣ The sink has separate hot and cold water taps instead of a single mixer tap, which feels a bit outdated and less convenient. 3️⃣ The air conditioner is relatively loud. Even in sleep mode, it turns on and off automatically, which can be a bit annoying at night. 4️⃣ The hotel uses traditional keys instead of key cards, and you need to leave the key at the front desk when you go out. That said, this also adds to the nostalgic atmosphere of the hotel and fits well with its retro style.

Renovated lobby area, onsen lacks of ryokan style of cleaning essential. This hotel run by Chinese people so did not feel that they paid attention to the detail of service. Dinner kaiseki meal were underpar. Breakfast even horrible. I can tell they did not serve freshly made salmon, they were very hard to bite. Most item are heated from frozen like suimai and xiao longbao which I didn't expect to have as Japanese breakfast. Miso soup was the same leftover from dinner. Coffee not hot at all. I don't think I will stay there again.

Intenté usar el servicio de masajes del hotel, pero lamentablemente solo había un empleado disponible y no pudieron atenderme. Hubiera sido mejor si se hubiera asignado personal adicional durante los períodos de vacaciones. El desayuno estaba delicioso, con ingredientes locales y especialidades de Nagano. La ubicación era muy conveniente, con acceso directo a la estación y junto a zonas comerciales y de restaurantes, así como al restaurante Don Quijote.
