We traveled from Fuling by taxi, although regular buses also run directly to the visitor center. From there, a shuttle takes you to the mountain entrance, marked by the famous “816 工程” (Project 816) gate. We joined a group with a Chinese-speaking guide, but the pace was far too fast for us, so we eventually continued exploring independently. Some areas offer explanations in English via QR codes, and brief English descriptions are available throughout the site. We also watched a performance inside the mountain. Although we couldn’t understand the language, the actors conveyed the story in a highly expressive and moving way. After the visit, a shuttle returned us to the visitor center, where we caught a bus back to Fuling. Overall, it was a fascinating experience, and we’re glad we visited.
