Small Luxury Hotel of the World - DasPosthotel

We booked a suite for three at €700 per night—expected: luxury. Received: a masterclass in misplaced priorities. I arrived around noon, handed over my ID, and was invited to sit and enjoy the welcome drink. I assumed someone would follow up to complete the check-in—wrong. The reception was temporarily unattended. When someone finally appeared, I was told the check-in couldn’t be finished until the rest of my family arrived. It sounded as if I might not get my room. Only after I asked explicitly was I assured I could go to our suite. Exhausted, I went straight to bed. Minutes later, someone aggressively rang the doorbell. I didn’t answer—I was in my underwear and wasn’t expecting visitors. Nevertheless, a staff member entered just to leave a jar of honey. Once my family arrived, phone calls started immediately: we were asked to deliver the remaining passports at once. I explained we were about to leave and would drop them off on the way out. Since our son’s passport wasn’t physically with me, I searched for a digital copy. A staff member then came personally to collect it, showing no understanding and clearly annoyed that I shared feedback about how this constant rush was ruining our stay. For a €700/night suite for three, the “welcome” consisted of just 0.5 liters of water and two glasses. Yes, there are glasses in the cupboard, but such small details highlight the general lack of attention and genuine hospitality among staff. Management claims to take guest feedback seriously, but this appears to be just words. Guests ask for a coffee maker in the room, yet all that is provided is pre-ground coffee—basic expectations remain unmet. I have traveled to over 50 countries and spent thousands of nights in hotels around the world, including the finest luxury properties. Even with that experience, I have never encountered service so rigid, bureaucratic, and dismissive of guest comfort. The hotel is beautiful, but administrative procedures are treated as sacred while actual guest experience comes second. Needless to say, this was our first and last visit.

We had an excellent stay at the Posthotel. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. It had everything you would want for an excellent stay. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent as well. The town is pleasant to explore and the hotel is well situated to visit the very beautiful Zillertal and nearby areas. Staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

There is a lot to like about this hotel, but some improvements could be made. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, but a few aspects didn’t feel luxurious. On the positive side, we had great service from most of the staff. Our luggage was taken to our room and our car parked for us while we had a welcome drink. There were however a couple of occasions where staff acted like we were a nuisance, despite it being nearly empty. It didn’t always feel warm and friendly, and sometimes it felt like they weren’t used to seeing two men on holiday together. Our room was spacious and we were grateful for an upgrade to a pool view. The bed was comfortable, but we struggled to sleep as the room was far too warm all through the night, even with the fan that we had to request. Apparently the hotel is working on installing air con, but to not have it did not feel like luxury to us. I had to sleep with only the sheet for the duvet and even then I was too warm. There is some kitchen equipment but no coffee available. We were told that we could order what we wanted, but sometimes you want to wake up and enjoy a coffee on the balcony without having to call someone. We were sent information about cuisine, but only one restaurant option was open to us because the sister hotel was closed. This ruled out the fine dining option that we wanted for our honeymoon. We were not told about this before we arrived. It also meant that we struggled to get a spa treatment at a time that suited us. I don’t know how they were so full; we saw less than 10 other guests the entire time. This was a major disappointment as only one of us could get a facial. The food was tasty. Breakfast had a good number of options and a hot choice. We had dinner one night and it was delicious. We enjoyed our drinks too, but wine was overpriced and there was no English menu. The spa area is clean and well-equipped. We enjoyed that a lot. The gym was small and basic though. The pool area is lovely but it does not get a lot of sun and it is overlooked by apartments. Overall we had a pleasant stay but we booked this hotel expecting luxury and instead received something more basic. We have experienced better elsewhere and most likely wouldn’t return.

The finest hotel experience I have ever had in my life. The guests are treated like royalty, the rooms are beyond beautiful and the amenities beyond belief. Well worth the cost of the room and I recommend this hotel highly.

Wonderful stay! Perfect location with so much to do in the area. The hotel had everything we needed and more!

Just got back from a week's stay at this wonderful hotel in the picturesque village of Zell. From the moment I walked through the door and was greeted by Lea on reception, to the day I left, I loved staying here. It's very near to the ski bus stop which is then just a few minutes ride away from the lovely Zillertal Arena ski area, but also near enough to the local train to get to the other ski areas in the valley. All the staff were great and attentive. I took advantage of the two days of ski guiding with Johannes, a fantastic guide who helped me achieve two of my goals - to ski the glacier area at Hintertux and to do the complete Arena circuit from Zell to Krimml and back. The spa area and pool are exceptional and a great way to relax and recover after a day of skiing. I would highly recommend and can see myself returning many times in the future.

Our ski vacation at Posthotel was an unforgettable experience! As one of the few 5-star hotels in Austria, the property excels with exceptional service—from the warm reception to the restaurant that impresses with its excellent price-performance ratio and outstanding quality. As a passionate foodie who frequently dines at renowned fine dining establishments worldwide, I can confidently say that the culinary offerings here are truly remarkable. The extensive wine list leaves nothing to be desired. Additionally, the complimentary parking and spacious, freely accessible parking garage add to the convenience. The hotel's immediate proximity to the Zillertal Arena makes it the ideal base for a perfect ski vacation. A flawless experience that truly stands out!

A truly wonderful hotel. The staff are all fantastic, incredibly welcoming and attentive. Little touches from welcome drinks to offering ice cold flannels and drinks on hot days by the pool. Everything was thought about and impeccable. We stayed in the skylofts which had amazing views and beautifully decorated.
