The Old Court Hotel

We were so disappointed with this hotel. When we arrived we spoke to the member of staff greeting us in the restaurant. We couldn't fault his customer service, friendly and efficient. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and we had already seen very good reviews for the food. Unfortunately this is where the praise stops. The communal areas leading to the rooms are tired and dirty, needs new carpets and painting. We stayed in room 1 on the top floor, which is the photograph of the four poster bed. When we first entered the room it all looked fine, we left our cases and took ourselves out for the afternoon/evening. That proved to be our big mistake, if I had checked over the bathroom we wouldn't have stayed and I would have asked for a full refund. Quite frankly it was disgusting, mold on the tiles and ceiling, hand held shower, the tattiest bath mat I've ever seen, the towels smelt clean but were very thin and frayed through washing. I honestly didn't want to shower in there and definitely wouldn't have sat in the bath. This made me check the rest of the room, the four poster wobbles, the bedside cabinet is marked, the wardrobe smell musty so couldn't even hang my coat up. None of this is reflected in the downstairs area. The team would be better off closing this room off because it's going to damage the reputation of the restaurant. I did pass on my views when we left but I could tell my views were falling on deaf ears.

Whilst the setting is idyllic and the staff very polite the menu when you get there is not the menu on the website and there were no draft real ales available. We drove 25.mins to get there so I was disappointed. Shame as it could have been much better.

Booked here overnight for a family of three and currently 4 hours into stay. Room is alright visually - basic and clean with 2 double beds, however smells of damp and bathroom looking worse for wear with damp painted over around the walls and ceiling. We knew we would be having an early night in, so we checked before hand that we would definitely have a TV - it was confirmed we would. Well, we do have a TV but it’s broken, it seems nobody at the hotel can fix it and apparently are too busy to discuss any issues with us tonight! We wouldn’t normally mind but we made sure that it was a small but specific request for this occasion…. Save your money and give it a miss!

Dont listen to negative comments Lovely room comfortable bed, staff are so lovely. Breakfast was really nice. Thank you would recommend. Pillows were so soft. Evening meal was really nice. Good location Thank you for making our wedding anniversary so special.

This is an old building, possibly originally an inn, with a large courtyard around the back, which is how you enter. From start to finish, the staff were friendly and helpful. The key to the room was a large old fashioned metal key, which is a good indication of the hotel as a whole. The wall paper looked as though it had been put up by the owners, and the entire room had a "spare room we rent out" feel to it which I had no problem with. I could see the roundabouts (2 of them) from my window but they were far away enough I couldn't hear them even with my window open. It is, however, very difficult to get across to the hotel if you come in by bus. The roads are very busy. I ate in the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. I saw others sitting outside in the courtyard having a beer. I had to leave Witney early and the owner was good enough to pack up my breakfast sandwich for me. I only have 2 complaints. The pillows absolutely should be replaced. They are as flat as pancakes. And the showers should be scrubbed more often as there is indeed some mould in a few places. Not a lot, but there shouldn't be any. The water pressure though was really good!

Sadly for us the hotel was probably the worst we've ever stayed at. It was awful. In the first room we were given there was no wardrobe, no window, the shower was built into the corner of the room with not even a shelf for soap, in fact the complimentary shower gel was left on the skirting board! There were no shelves in the room, the only place to put your things was literally in a hay trough. There was a single bracket on the wall with 3 wire coathangers so we assume this was meant to be our wardrobe? When we refused the room we were told it was the only room they had available so we requested a refund. They did find us another room but pointed out that the room we were initally offered was the one associated with breaks paid for with gift vouchers. We had in fact paid an additional £181 on top of the voucher value £100 in order to have a three night break with breakfast. (a total cost of £281 for 3 nights) This was booked 6 months ago, for a special birthday weekend away. The room we ended up in had mould in the bathroom and thick dust everywhere. The (paper thin) towels had footprints and dirty marks on. On the plus side, the bed was huge & comfy!!! The main hotel stank, The carpets in the corridors are filthy and worn out. The fire door was so rotten that you could see to the outside through the hole in it. The hotel claims to have a picnic area with views and a terrace. What it actually has are tables in a courtyard area (pretty much in the car park) It is also on a very busy roundabout which ought to be mentioned in its write up. The food wasn't very good either. The staff, although friendly, seem so shy they hardly speak. One other couple we met complained of having raw sewage all over their bathroom floor after flushing the toilet. I wouldn't leave a review like this if it wasn't valid. I wish I had been warned.
