I had a great stay at this hostel, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The common areas were clean, comfortable, and had a great atmosphere for meeting other travelers. I ended up making some new friends here, and we realized we were planning to visit many of the same places, so we explored together. That really made my trip even more memorable. The hostel itself was very clean and well-maintained, and I was impressed with the overall experience. The only issue I encountered was with late check-in. My bus arrived much later than expected, so I wasn't able to arrange an after-hours check-in in advance. I understand that the instructions were provided by email, but I did have a moment of panic because I was asked to call the hostel's phone number. Since I was traveling with only an eSIM and didn't have a New Zealand phone number, I wasn't able to make the call. It would be great if there were an alternative way to contact the hostel for late check-ins, such as WhatsApp, email, or an online messaging system. Overall, this hostel went beyond my expectations, and I'd definitely recommend it to other travelers.

We arrived to Lake Taupo & easily found Sails on the Lake. On checking in we were given free compliments bottle of milk to use for tea/coffee. Our room included seperate lounge small kitchen area, bathroom & bedroom. It was an idea unit, allowing us the full comfort of home away from home. Our host also gave us a good recommendation for a restaurant for that evening within 10 mins walk away. Whilst there we travelled to Huka Falls, only a few mins drive away. An excellent stay.

Seriously impressed by this little inn: spacious living room; beautiful view of the lake (Room 15); bathroom with a hot tub; well-equipped kitchen with cooking facilities, plates, cutleries and even salt and pepper; one balcony attached to each bedroom; two TVs. Check-in and check-out were smooth and took less than a minute, with no questions asked. Better than many 5 star hotels in terms of the facilities and space one gets. Possible improvements: spider webs can be removed from the balconies; a net can be installed so that insects don't crawl in when doors or Windows are opened.

This motel is located a very short drive from great restaurants and large grocery stores. The grounds and pool are immaculate, very friendly staff everywhere. Rooms are spotless and our deck was large with a table and 2 chairs. Lower floors have covered patios. Very nice! We would stay here again.

I arrived in Taupo on the morning Air NZ flight from AKL, upon arrival at the Chevron Motel, 4 hours before the published check-in time, I had planned to ask to have my luggage stored while I go about other business. The receptionist kindly asked me to wait while she checked to see if my room was ready, and if so, I could have my room right away. Lucky for me it was, I was very pleased with the initiative and flexibility offered. My booking included a living area with dining table, kitchen, sofa, spare single bed, a separate bedroom, and a dedicated parking space. My stay of 5 nights was very comfortable, and I will definitely use this motel again on my next visit. I would like to offer a few suggestions for improvements, first - a split type AC unit was present in the living room, it would be great if there could be a second unit installed in the bedroom. Internet connectivity, available 24/7, while adequate, did have limited bandwidth affecting video streaming from Netflix/YouTube etc. Lastly, it would be great if the TV provided in the living room had a larger screen. In summary, I was very pleased with my stay at the Chevron Motel, the room offered great value for money, and I was completely relaxed and comfortable during my stay.

Habitación pequeña pero con todo lo suficiente. Había un grupo de chicos muy ruidosos. Hemos utilizado la cocina común y ha sido un placer . El hombre de recepción un encanto, nos ha dado muchas indicaciones útiles

Camas limpias. Tene una pequeña cocina para los que necesitan cocinar. Jardín privado pequeño con asiento fuera de la habitación. Aparcamiento fuera de la calle. Buen aire acondicionado. Dado 3 estrellas para instalaciones porque el spa estaba fuera de acción y la piscina no era muy limpia.

Stay fo 1 nite. Overall did not enjoy much of the hotel as we check in late and left the next morning. The only experience was an earth quake that woke us up at 8.06am It was a very windy day and raining and a storm was in brew for us.. but we areaxh safely despite road closure and land slides and flash flood Thank God

The room was unsatisfactory. Cobwebs and insects on walls, broken & wobbly dining chairs. Even the stair railing to go upstairs is shaky. Chipped bowls and plates. Most serious is that hot water shower is almost impossible! Hot water seems to be limited. It's always freezing cold water! Imagine having soap all over your body and literally freezing just to wait for the hot water to come but yet not enough to rinse off the soap! I gave up trying to shower the next day. And no Aircon on upstairs room. We had to ask for a small fan just to ventilate the room
