This was my second trip to Taipei and my first trip to really spend a full 10 days in that beautiful city. I spent the first half of my stay in another hotel, just a few blocks away and at the same price as Color Mix Hostel Hotel... and the difference in facilities, infrastructure and service was night and day.
The mattress of the bed in this hotel was awful...it hadn't been replaced for a long time and you could see and feel the dents (ups and downs) in the mattress.
There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Nor was there a hand towel. And there was no body wash. There was only a shampoo container in the shower stall. I spoke with the front desk and asked about this. They said they're being environmentally conscious!
The hotel/hostel didn't have a clothes washing machine. Across the street, there was a laundromat that one could use.
The front desk reception (and I guess the hostel) is in one building and my room was outside, across the street, in another building.
The two or three times I approached the front desk, they seemed very aloof and seemed not to care. Also, twice, the front desk person was eating something while talking to me. Once there was food spilled on her clothes. And the front-desk counter was quite dirty.
This is contrast to the other Taipei hotel I stayed out just before this at the same price range and just blocks away, the difference was night and day. In the other hotel, I felt relaxed and taken care of. Front-desk team were super professional. The room was well maintained. There was a washer and dryer in the hotel. There was even a tea/coffee station for all to use.
The room itself looked and felt more like a shared hostel room than a hotel room.
I usually shy away from writing negative reviews but I hope fellow travelers take caution in using this hostel/hotel and the hostel/hotel management take steps to improve the facilities, service and experience. I also think for anyone staying at this hostel/hotel, they would get a wrong impression of Taipei. Taipei is clean, well managed and organized. My first hotel experience proved that. But this hostel/hotel experience made me feel like I'm in an under-developed country.
