Stung Sangke Hotel

I spent two nights here as part of a self-driving road trip. This hotel is a classic Asian-style city-center hotel. Reminds me of my favorite hotel in Bangkok. Yes, it's a bit dated and could use a remodel or at least a coat of paint, but it has that old Asian charm, character, and generous use of wood, that you won't find in modern construction. The room and bathroom were clean enough, and the bedding, pillows, linen, towels, etc. were fine. The air-conditioning, hot water and internet worked fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had the hotel do a large load of laundry and it was reasonably priced. There is ample parking for folks who self-drive. I booked through Agoda from the hotel lobby as Agoda's price was slightly lower than the walk-in rate and I wanted to pay for the room by credit card. The price was around $30 USD per night.

The hotel looks really good from the outside but the interior is somewhat old and lifeless. The furniture in the room is very dated; had to plug in the lamps on my own before switching them on. The pillow was weird; couldn’t sleep well until I adjusted it a few times. The lobby and lifts were not well-ventilated and were quite hot. Just glad it was a very short stay.

Stayed only for one night as it was a quick stop to Battambang. Hotel is pretty dated, like its stuck in the 80s/90s. No power outlets beside the bed. The outlet closest to the bed(on the counter beside the kettle) did not work, I charged my phone in the bathroom, until I found another outlet under the dresser. The airconditioning was abit weak even at the lowest temperature. An old tv with alot of channels but the reception is bad so you're watching shows with alot of static. When it rains(which it did), there's no signal so nothing to watch in the end. Power went out twice. Assumed it was the technician doing work and power tripped. Breakfast was a buffet but average at best. The front desk staff could have been a little more friendlier. Not much smiling. If you just need a place to sleep, this place will do. Otherwise, best to find somewhere else.

Es war gut zu wissen, wieviel es kostet wenn man den alten Röhrenfernseher klaut (90 $). Auch war es sehr nett, dass beim Check-Out kontrolliert wurde, dass man nichts im Zimmer „vergessen“ hat. Es gab eine vergilbte und verkalkte Badewanne mit Duschvorhang.

Wir haben eine Nacht auf einer Rundreise in diesem Hotel verbracht. Es liegt recht zentral und es gibt ausreichend Restaurants in der Nähe. Das Zimmer war sehr groß, mit vielen Schränken. Im Bad war alles vorhanden, was ein Gast braucht, vom Fön über das Rasierset mit Kamm bis zu Shampoo und Duschgel. Die Dusche funktionierte perfekt und hatte einen satten Strahl und die Temperatur war sehr gut regulierbar. Das Frühstück bot eine sehr große Auswahl an asiatischen Speisen. Es gab 2 verschiedene Stationen, an denen man sich mit Hilfe des Personals eine köstliche Suppe zusammenstellen konnte. Aber auch Baguette, Marmelade, Käse, Müsli und frisches Obst waren vorhanden. Außerdem eine Extra-Station, wo Eierspeisen frisch zubereitet wurden. Der einzige Wermutstropfen war der Kaffee; er war lauwarm und schmeckte nicht gut und die Tassen waren winzig.

Schon die Ankunft im Lobbybereich war etwas bedrückend angesichts der wuchtigen Holzfiguren und der kalten und sonst schmucklosen und in die Jahre gekommenen Deko. Schon der Weg zu den Zimmern weckte Beklemmung und erinnerte an einen Gefängnis oder Kasernen Trakt. Das Zimmer war nicht besser, sowohl in der Ausstattung als auch in der Pflege. Der Blick aus dem Fenster belohnte uns mit einem wunderbar lärmenden Klimanlagenpark. Nach einer langen Busfahrt mit unserer Reisegruppe freuten wir uns dann auf ein erfrischendes Bad im Pool. Leider war kein Wasser darin, über Nacht wurde er zwar wieder gefüllt, leider fand sich aber das Wasser im darunter liegenden Frühstückssaal in Form eines stetig plätschernden Wasserfalls wieder.
