AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. IT IS THE WORST ACCOMMODATION I’VE EXPERIENCED IN MY ENTIRE 6 YEARS IN CHINA AND MY WIFE’S ENTIRE 3 YEARS IN CHINA.
My wife and I planned a 10-day Shanghai trip and originally considered staying here the entire time, but a friend warned us, so we booked only two nights to judge for ourselves. Honestly, we are glad we booked for the few days. Those nights became the worst two nights I have experienced in my six years in China and my wife’s three years here. From the beginning, there was essentially no reception or proper check-in. Nobody was there when we arrived around 1–2 p.m., so we had to find the contact person’s number through Trip.com, call him, communicate in Chinese, add him on WeChat, and then follow remote instructions. He literally wrote, “Go in through the back door; it’s open,” then sent pictures telling us to find the Room 204 key card ourselves on a plate that was extremely dusty. The back entrance led through a kitchen that was in shambles. The kitchen had dusty floors and tables and visibly dirty/stained utensils. It felt less like checking into accommodation and more like sneaking into an abandoned house. The disorganization continued throughout the two nights we booked. When we later left the room for a walk, a woman (the Aunty) approached us questioning why we were there, forcing us to contact the host and ask him to explain that we were legitimate paying guests. The room itself was ridiculously small for two people, as were the bed and blanket. Imagine, I am only 160 cm tall and still had to sleep with my legs extending beyond the bed. Hygiene and service were disgraceful. There was no garbage bin in the room, only in the washroom, and our garbage remained with us from the previous night. On Wednesday morning at 9:34, we specifically requested room service, clearly telling the contact person we requested for cleaning, changing the bedsheets and removing the garbage. With less regards to hygiene and cleanliness, we were told the sheets and duvet covers are changed per guest, “not every day”, and that we could leave our trash at the entrance. We were then explicitly assured that “he’ll collect the trash and tidy up the bed sheets and duvets”. Yet when we returned, the promised service had NOT been done. The garbage was still there, the room had not been cleaned AT ALL, toiletries were missing, and the floor had actually been left stained. When asked, the host gave us bogus and contradictory responses. He admitted, “Our guesthouses are usually not cleaned for two days”, “Even if we stay for two days, we won’t clean up”, and “I don’t have that habit. Sorry about that”. He then blamed the aunt, saying, “I told my aunt, but she didn’t follow through”, and “Sorry about the aunt’s mistake”. A PURE BOGUS BEHAVIOR. There was also only one towel despite two people staying in the room, and when we needed basic toiletries there were no toothbrushes/toothpaste, shower gel or shampoo available in the room. Instead of bringing them after our morning request, the host told us to go downstairs ourselves and retrieve the shower gel from a cabinet under the kitchen sink, even giving us directions to find it. Worse, the toothbrush we retrieved had shampoo/shower gel spilled on and inside it, as the toothbrush, shampoo, and shower gel were kept together in the same bag. When we rinsed it under running water, it literally produced foam. My friend had described this place as being like a shithole or abandoned house, and after we personally experienced the ZERO HOSPITALITY practice, nonexistent reception, bizarre self-check-in through the back door, dirty kitchen, tiny bed, lack of basic toiletries, inadequate towels, garbage left in the room, broken cleaning promise, stained floor, and being told that two-day guests simply are not cleaned, I strongly agree. Do not be fooled by the attractive platform photos or ratings. Learn from our actual experience and avoid unnecessary inconveniences. I can pr
