Selva Verde Lodge

We stayed here for 2 nights on our Costa Rican holiday and had a great time. The rooms are in blocks of 4, are very large (2 double beds) with air conditioning and are very peaceful. The only thing we missed was a small fridge in the room, otherwise they had everything we needed. There’s a great Italian restaurant on site and lovely bar overlooking the rainforest with really good cocktails. The breakfasts were buffet style but with a varied choice and overlooking a feeding area for loads of different birds. There are some trails around the lodge where we walked and saw monkeys right above us. The pool area was nice and relaxing after a day exploring the local area. I would highly recommend a stay here.

The Selva Verde lodge was my favorite place on this trip to Costa Rica. It's situated right in the middle of the rain forest. This area is home to some incredible animals, insects and birds. The lodge is spread out over a large area and has a viewing bar just off of the dining room where they set out fruits for a wide array of creatures. You are surrounded by nature and beautiful, lush gardens. The rooms are large and comfortable with ample outdoor seating space to include a personal hammock. There are long covered walkways, so you can access all of the facilities under cover when it rains. There are also self-guided hiking trails all around the grounds.

We had a Sarapiqui room near the river and it was really comfortable, spacious, air conditioning, hammock and chairs outside, 2 big beds and a sofa. Laundry service efficient and by weight not item. Buffet food was all good quality, lots of fruit and vegetables. Plus the wonderful bird feeders which are by the buffet restaurant balcony. We did the Night tour, the early morning bird tour and the nature walk in the private reserve on our last morning. We saw lots, including Kinkajous in the night walk. And the grounds on both sides of the road are great to wander around. Try to get a room near the river for views and to be further from the busy road

Comfortable, quite room surrounded by rainforest. Long walk to room under mainly covered walkways. Only downside is the need to cross a very busy road. I was offered a room on site for an extra $20 per night but glad I stayed in the lodge. Lots of wildlife on site. Food good and staff very friendly.

Stayed overnight on our birding tour. My room was the cleanest, most comfortable, best and most tastefully furnished of all our time in CR. Part of a structure comprising four rooms, it was large, spotless, exceedingly comfortable and had a desk and chair, lots of power outlets for my various chargers, computer, etc. I would have been happy to spend several nights here for the quality of the accommodation alone. The whole lodge accommodation is a series of these four room cabins unit connected but covered, by above ground walkways. No sound transmission between any of the rooms or units. Also, good, strong, in-room wifi!! There are lots of birds and birding opportunities on the lodge grounds. There were lots of people watching at the feeders in the morning. Our guide thought that the feeders and birding had gone downhill significantly after a new manager came in several years ago, so our activity there was incidental. Those people that I saw with binns, cameras and cell phones seemed happy enough, however. Meals are all buffet style and plenteous, if perhaps unexceptional. The only negatives from my perspective were having to wear a paper (?) guest ID bracelet (which I dealt with by having it put through my watch band) and not being able to spend a day exploring the place. Oh yes, the gift shop had a lot of stuff but most was run of the mill CR tourist stuff available anywhere in the country. If they had had a good quality cotton T- shirt with a tasteful design specific to Selva Verde, I would have happily paid a premium for it. On another trip to CR, I would stay here happily.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our birdwatching holiday. Our room was a good way from the main building, but the walkways are covered and well lit so this was not a problem. Our room was comfortable and a good size with good bathroom. The restaurant serves buffet style meals which we really liked. On a birding holiday it can be frustrating if the restaurant service is slow especially at lunch but here with the buffet style mealtimes could be a fast or slow as we wished. The food was nice and they catered to my dietary requirements well. The grounds and gardens were lovely and birding in the area excellent.Staff were friendly and helpful.
