Aloft Ponce Hotel & Casino

San Antón|A 0.83km del centro
How is this hotel a Marriott? After check in for 2 nights, our first room (511?) had issues, including the wall-mounted toilet paper holder partly off, hanging upside down. OK, things happen. Kindly they upgraded us to room 519. On the hallway of a supposedly renovated floor, one could see poorly finished walls, door jambs, baseboards, etc. The room number sign for 519 was missing, but helpfully they placed on the door a piece of wide, blue painters tape at eye level with 519 scribbled with a black sharpie. I have to say the bed was excellent. But nothing else was. One of the night tables is wall mounted, and the bed was also fixed ... 2 feet away! On the other side, another night table (different design altogether) was thankfully resting on the floor and movable. The baseboards are the cheap thin-vinyl type suitable for a laundry room or a Home Depot bathroom, poorly mounted with gaps at the corners. The window curtains are split in two halves, each half having a thin outside privacy curtain and a heavier inner curtain to block the light. The right white curtain was 1 ft too long, draping over the floor. Why? Next day, on Feb 14, we intended to shower before heading out to dinner, but there was no hot water. The reception instructed us to just let it run and it'd warm up. But after 1/2 Hr, we had to take cold showers or else miss our reservation. What a way to start a date! Next day, after we had packed up, I decided to check. Voila! Hot water, now that we did not need it anymore. I find the exposed clothes-storage area quirky, not trendy. Here, it had rather limited hanging space. It's used in the Hilton Tru, a midscale brand, whereas Aloft is supposed to be upscale. The bathroom counter space was small. The shower door mount is not going to last long. On the rather nice floor tile, inexplicably they cut a rectangular hole by the base of the bed and lined the bottom with a horrible striped carpet with loud colors, leaving sharp edges on the tiles, and a big chip (3 inches long, 1 inch wide) on the edge of one tile, which should be replaced. The doors to the balcony do not seal well, and the windows are thin. So even with the curtains closed, the out-of-tune singer at the St Valentine party going on at the restaurant terrace below us sounded like she was on our balcony. We could not go to sleep until the party ended, at about 11 PM. Finally, with sky-high electricity costs in PR, the room AC thermostat defaults to 16C (61F). Why? Ridiculous.
